Salmos, 2

1. Por que se amotinam as nações, e os povos maquinam planos vãos?

1. Why this uproar among the nations, this impotent muttering of the peoples?

2. Os reis da terra sublevam-se e os príncipes coligam-se contra o Senhor e contra o seu Messias:

2. Kings of the earth take up position, princes plot together against Yahweh and his anointed,

3. "Quebremos (disseram) as suas cadeias e sacudamos de nós os seus laços!"

3. 'Now let us break their fetters! Now let us throw off their bonds!'

4. Aquele que habita nos céus ri-se, o Senhor zomba deles,

4. He who is enthroned in the heavens laughs, Yahweh makes a mockery of them,

5. Ele lhes fala então na sua ira, e os aterroriza no seu furor:

5. then in his anger rebukes them, in his rage he strikes them with terror.

6. "Eu, porém, constituí o meu rei sobre Sião, meu monte santo!"

6. 'I myself have anointed my king on Zion my holy mountain.'

7. Promulgarei o decreto do Senhor: O Senhor disse-me: "Tu és meu filho, eu hoje te gerei.

7. I will proclaim the decree of Yahweh: He said to me, 'You are my son, today have I fathered you.

8. Pede-me, e eu te darei as nações em herança, e em teu domínio os confins da terra.

8. Ask of me, and I shall give you the nations as your birthright, the whole wide world as your possession.

9. Tu as governarás com vara de ferro, quebrá-las-ás qual vaso do oleiro."

9. With an iron sceptre you will break them, shatter them like so many pots.'

10. E agora, ó reis, atendei; instruí-vos, vós que governais a terra.

10. So now, you kings, come to your senses, you earthly rulers, learn your lesson!

11. Servi ao Senhor com temor, e louvai-o com alegria; com temor

11. In fear be submissive to Yahweh;

12. prestai-lhe vassalagem, para que não se ire, e não apareçais fora do caminho (da justiça),

12. with trembling kiss his feet, lest he be angry and your way come to nothing, for his fury flares up in a moment. How blessed are all who take refuge in him!
