Salmos, 49

1. Oigan esto, pueblos todos, habitantes del mundo entero, escuchen:

1. <To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah.> Hear this, all [ye] people; give ear, all [ye] inhabitants of the world:

2. gente del pueblo y gente de apellido, ricos y pobres, todos en conjunto.

2. Both low and high, rich and poor, together.

3. Mi boca va a decir sabiduría y lo que pienso sobre cosas hondas;

3. My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart [shall be] of understanding.

4. dejen que me concentre en un refrán, lo explicaré luego al son del arpa.

4. I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

5. ¿Por qué temer en días de desgracia, cuando me cercan el mal y la traición

5. Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, [when] the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?

6. de los que en su fortuna se confían y hacen prevalecer su gran riqueza?

6. They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

7. Mas, comprada su vida nadie tiene, ni a Dios puede, con plata, sobornarlo,

7. None [of them] can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

8. pues es muy caro el precio de la vida.

8. (For the redemption of their soul [is] precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)

9. ¿Vivir piensa por siempre, o cree que no irá a la fosa un día?

9. That he should still live for ever, [and] not see corruption.

10. Pues bien, verá que los sabios se mueren, que igual perecen el necio y el estúpido, y dejan para otros su riqueza.

10. For he seeth [that] wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.

11. Sus tumbas son sus casas para siempre, por siglos y siglos, sus moradas, por más que su nombre a sus tierras hayan puesto.

11. Their inward thought [is, that] their houses [shall continue] for ever, [and] their dwelling places to all generations; they call [their] lands after their own names.

12. El hombre en los honores no comprende, es igual que el ganado que se mata.

12. Nevertheless man [being] in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts [that] perish.

13. Hacia allá van los que en sí confían, ese será el fin de los que les gusta escucharse.

13. This their way [is] their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.

14. Abajo, cual rebaño la muerte los reúne, los pastorea y les impone su ley. Son como un espectro desvaído que a la mañana vuelve a su casa abajo.

14. Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

15. Pero a mí Dios me rescatará, y me sacará de las garras de la muerte.

15. But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.

16. No temas cuando el hombre se enriquece, cuando aumenta la fama de su casa.

16. Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;

17. Nada podrá llevar él a su muerte, ni su riqueza podrá bajar con él.

17. For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.

18. Su alma, que siempre en vida bendecía: "Te alaban, porque te has tratado bien",

18. Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and [men] will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.

19. irá a unirse con la raza de sus padres, que jamás volverán a ver la luz.

19. He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.

20. El hombre en los honores no comprende, es igual que el ganado que se mata.

20. Man [that is] in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts [that] perish.
