Psaumes, 55

1. Au maître de chant, avec instruments à cordes. Cantique de David.

1. For the leader. On stringed instruments. A maskil of David.

2. O Dieu, prête l'oreille à ma prière, ne te dérobe pas à mes supplications.

2. Listen, God, to my prayer; do not hide from my pleading;

3. Ecoute-moi et réponds-moi! J' erre çà et là, plaintif et gémissant,

3. hear me and give answer. I rock with grief; I groan

4. devant les menaces de l'ennemi, devant l'oppression du méchant! Car ils font tomber sur moi le malheur, et ils me poursuivent avec colère.

4. at the uproar of the enemy, the clamor of the wicked. They heap trouble upon me, savagely accuse me.

5. Mon coeur tremble au dedans de moi, et sur moi fondent les terreurs de la mort.

5. My heart pounds within me; death's terrors fall upon me.

6. La crainte et l'épouvante m'assaillent, et le frisson m'enveloppe.

6. Fear and trembling overwhelm me; shuddering sweeps over me.

7. Et je dis : Oh! si j'avais les ailes de la colombe, je m'envolerais et m'établirais en repos ;

7. I say, "If only I had wings like a dove that I might fly away and find rest.

8. voici que je fuirais bien loin, et je demeurerais au désert ; - Séla.

8. Far away I would flee; I would stay in the desert. Selah

9. je me hâterais de chercher un asile, loin du vent impétueux, loin de l'ouragan.

9. I would soon find a shelter from the raging wind and storm."

10. Réduis-les à néant, Seigneur, divise leurs langues! car je vois dans la ville la violence et la discorde.

10. Lord, check and confuse their scheming. I see violence and strife in the city

11. Jour et nuit ils font le tour de ses ramparts ; l'iniquité et la vexation sont au milieu d'elle,

11. making rounds on its walls day and night. Within are mischief and evil;

12. la perversité est dans son sein l'oppression et l'astuce ne quittent point ses places.

12. treachery is there as well; oppression and fraud never leave its streets.

13. Car ce n'est pas un ennemi qui m'outrage : je le supporterais ; ce n'est pas un adversaire qui s'élève contre moi : je me cacherais devant lui.

13. If an enemy had reviled me, that I could bear; If my foe had viewed me with contempt, from that I could hide.

14. Mais toi, tu étais un autre moi-même, mon confident et mon ami.

14. But it was you, my other self, my comrade and friend,

15. Nous vivions ensemble dans une douce intimité, nous allions avec la foule à la maison de Dieu.

15. You, whose company I enjoyed, at whose side I walked in procession in the house of God.

16. Que la mort les surprenne, qu'ils descendent vivants au schéol! Car la méchanceté est dans leur demeure, au milieu d'eux.

16. Let death take them by surprise; let them go down alive to Sheol, for evil is in their homes and hearts.

17. Pour moi, je crie vers Dieu, et Yahweh me sauvera.

17. But I will call upon God, and the LORD will save me.

18. Le soir, le matin, au milieu du jour, je me plains, je gémis, et il entendra ma voix.

18. At dusk, dawn, and noon I will grieve and complain, and my prayer will be heard.

19. Il délivrera en paix mon âme du combat qui m'est livré, car ils sont nombreux ceux qui me font la guerre.

19. God will give me freedom and peace from those who war against me, though there are many who oppose me.

20. Dieu entendra, et il les humiliera, lui qui siège éternellement sur son trône. - Séla. Car il n'y a point en eux de changement, et ils n'ont pas la crainte de Dieu.

20. God, who sits enthroned forever, will hear me and humble them. For they will not mend their ways; they have no fear of God.

21. il porte la main sur ceux qui étaient en paix avec lui, il viole son alliance.

21. They strike out at friends and go back on their promises.

22. De sa bouche sortent des paroles douces comme le lait, et la guerre est dans son coeur. Ses discours sont plus onctueux que l'huile, mais ce sont des épées nues.

22. Softer than butter is their speech, but war is in their hearts. Smoother than oil are their words, but they are unsheathed swords.

23. Remets ton sort à Yahweh, et il te soutiendra ; il ne laissera pas à jamais chanceler le juste.

23. Cast your care upon the LORD, who will give you support. God will never allow the righteous to stumble.

24. Et toi, ô Dieu, tu les feras descendre dans la fosse de perdition ; les hommes de sang et de ruse ne verront pas la moitié de leurs jours. Pour moi, je mets en toi ma confiance.$

24. But you, God, will bring them down to the pit of destruction. These bloodthirsty liars will not live half their days, but I put my trust in you.
