Oseas, 13

1. Cuando Efraím hablaba, todos temblaban de espanto, pues era poderoso en Israel; pero decayó apenas se puso a pecar con el Baal.

1. When Ephraim spoke all trembled; he was powerful in Israel but became guilty of Baal worship and ruined himself.

2. Y todavía siguen pecando, pues se han fabricado con su plata un ídolo de metal fundido, diseñado a su gusto. Esto no es más que obra de artesanos, pero ellos dicen: «Ofrezcanles sacrificios», y hombres como ellos besan a un ternero.

2. They now continue to sin and make images from molten metal, fashioning idols from silver, the work of craftsmen. And they call them God! They offer sacrifices to them and humans adore calves!

3. Por eso serán como neblina matinal, como el rocío que pronto se seca, como paja barrida por el viento, como el humo que escapa por la ventana.

3. That is why they will be like morning mist and like dew which does not last, like the straw swept away on the threshing floor, like smoke escaping through a window.

4. Sin embargo, yo soy Yavé, tu Dios, desde la tierra de Egipto; no conoces otro Dios fuera de mí, ni tienes más Salvador que yo.

4. But I am Yahweh, your God who brought you out of Egypt; you have no God other than me and no savior but me.

5. Yo te conocí en el desierto, en esa tierra seca.

5. I knew you in the desert, in a land of scorching heat.

6. Yo les di de comer; pero cuando estuvieron satisfechos, se llenó de orgullo su corazón y se olvidaron de mí.

6. When they had food they were satisfied and when they were satisfied they became proud and no longer remembered me.

7. Pues bien, yo fui para ellos como un leopardo; me pongo al acecho en su camino como una pantera;

7. So I became for them like a leopard, like a tiger I watched out for them,

8. me lanzo sobre ellos como un oso al que le han quitado sus crías, y desgarro la funda de su corazón. Como leona, allí mismo los devoro y los destrozo como fiera salvaje.

8. and attacked them with the fury of a bear that has lost its cubs. I tore out their heart and like a lion I devoured them; like a savage beast I tore them apart.

9. Ya estás destruído, Israel, ¿quién vendrá en tu ayuda?

9. Israel, you had in me a helper, will I be now your destroyer?

10. ¿Dónde está tu rey para que te salve?, ¿y tus jefes para que te protejan? ¿No decías: «Dame un rey y unos jefes»?

10. Where is your king that he may rescue your cities? Where are your rulers about whom you said, "Give us a king and commanders."

11. Te di un rey para que no me molestaras más, y ahora te lo quito porque ya me aburriste.

11. So in my anger I gave you a king and in my fury I took him away.

12. La falta de Efraím es mantenida en reserva y se guarda en un lugar seguro su pecado.

12. The wickedness of Ephraim is deep-set; his sin is stored up.

13. Le llegan los dolores de parto y el niño está listo para nacer; mas no sale, pues es un hijo tarado.

13. The pangs of woman in labor come upon him. But the child is capricious. When it is time he does not leave the womb.

14. ¿Yo los libraré del poder del sepulcro? ¿Yo los salvaré de la Muerte? ¡No! ¿Dónde están, oh Muerte, tus plagas? ¿Dónde están, oh Sepulcro, tus azotes? No quiero tenerles más compasión.

14. Will I ransom them from the power of the netherworld? Will I rescue them from death? Not at all! Where, O death, are your plagues? Where, O netherworld, is your venom? Yet my eyes will not look with compassion

15. Efraím creció más que sus hermanos, pero sobre él pasará el viento del este, el soplo de Yavé subirá del desierto; se secarán sus vertientes y se agotará su manantial; consumirá su tierra y todas sus riquezas.

15. on the one who excelled among his brothers. Yahweh will send the east wind from the desert to dry up his sources of water and parch his fountains, to strip him of all his treasures.
