Oseas, 9

1. No te alegres, Israel, no te regocijes como las naciones paganas, porque tú has traicionado a tu Dios y, con tal de que te dieran algo, te entregabas en cualquier era donde se trillara.

1. Do not rejoice and celebrate, Israel, like other nations, for you have deserted your God. You are fond of prostitution gifts and run to every threshing floor where there is wheat.

2. Pero ni la era ni el lagar les proporcionarán el sustento necesario, y hasta el vino les faltará.

2. This is why threshing floors and vats will not feed you; new wine will disappoint you.

3. No vivirán más en la tierra de Yavé, Efraím volverá a Egipto y en su destierro de Asiria comerán alimentos impuros.

3. No longer will you remain in Yahweh's land. Ephraim will return to Egypt - in fact to Assyria, where they will eat unclean food.

4. Ya no derramarán más vino en homenaje a Yavé, ni le ofrecerán más sacrificios. Su pan será como el pan que se sirve en un velorio, que deja impuros a todos los que lo comen. Su pan será sólo para ellos, pues no podrán llevarlo a la Casa de Yavé.

4. No more will they be able to pour out the wine offering for Yahweh and no longer will they sacrifice to him. They will have only bread for mourners; all who eat it will be defiled. This food will be for themselves and it will not be taken into the house of Yahweh.

5. ¿Qué harán ustedes el día de la peregrinación para la fiesta de Yavé?

5. What shall you do on the feast? You will leave but not for the pilgrimage to Yahweh; rather you will flee because of the invaders.

6. Ustedes saldrán, pero huyendo después de la derrota. Egipto los recogerá, y en Menfis serán sepultados. Las ortigas guardarán sus tesoros de plata y las zarzas crecerán en sus casas.

6. Egypt will gather you and Memphis entomb you. Nettles will take over your treasures of silver and thorns creep over your tents.

7. Ha llegado la hora de rendir cuentas; ha llegado la hora del desquite: ¡que todo Israel lo sepa! Los profetas serán como locos y los inspirados ya no sabrán qué decir, pues, así como fue grande tu pecado, enorme será tu desastre.

7. The time of punishment has come, the day of retribution is here. The Israelites will know it. The prophets will go out of their mind; the seers will become like mad men because your defeat will be as great as your sins have been.

8. Efraím monta guardia ante mi Dios y el profeta trata de impedir que el enemigo llegue de sorpresa, anunciando el ataque contra el templo de sus ídolos.

8. Ephraim watches before my God; his prophets try to stop the enemy on every path to protect the house of their gods.

9. Se han corrompido profundamente como aquel día en Guibea, pero Yavé se acordará de su culpa y castigará sus pecados.

9. Yet they are as corrupted as they were long ago in Gibeah. Yahweh will remember their wickedness and punish their sin.

10. Israel fue para mí como uva silvestre encontrada en el desierto, y sus padres me parecieron como si fueran las primeras brevas; pero no bien habían llegado a Baal-Peor, se vendieron al ídolo y se hicieron tan aborrecibles como el ídolo que amaban.

10. I found Israel like wild grapes in the desert, I saw your fathers like the first fruits on a fig tree. But no sooner had they come to Baal-peor than they gave themselves to the idol; and they became as worthless as their dirty god.

11. La gloria de Efraím se volará como un pájaro: no más hijos, no más embarazos, no más concepción.

11. The glory of Ephraim will flee away like a bird; it has died stillborn, miscarried, not even conceived.

12. Por más que críen hijos, se los quitaré antes que lleguen a hombres. ¡Ay de ellos cuando me aparte de ellos!

12. Had they brought out children, I would take them off before they were adults, for woe to them when I abandon them!

13. Ya ha visto Efraïm entregando sus hijos al cazador; Efraím tendrá que llevar sus hijos al matadero.

13. I have seen that Ephraim will make his sons like a game; he will send his sons to be slaughtered.

14. Dales, Yavé... ¿Qué les darás? ¡Haz que sus entrañas sean estériles y que se sequen sus pechos!

14. Give them, Yahweh, what you will; give them wombs that miscarry and breasts that are dry.

15. En Guilgal salió a relucir toda su maldad. Allí fue donde les tomé odio. Los echaré de mi casa por todos sus crímenes; no les tendré más cariño, pues todos sus jefes son unos rebeldes.

15. It is at Gilgal that their wickedness is seen. There I hated them. I will expel them from my House because of their evil conduct. I will love them no longer for all their leaders are rebels.

16. Efraím se está muriendo, sus raíces se están secando y ya no habrá más frutos. Y aunque tengan hijos, yo haré morir el apreciado fruto de su seno.

16. Ephraim is blighted; his root is withered; he will produce no fruit. Even when they are with child, the child will die in the womb.

17. Como no le hicieron caso, mi Dios los echará de su presencia y andarán como vagabundos por la tierra.

17. My God will reject them because they did not listen; he will make them wander among the nations.
