Oseas, 4

1. Escuchen lo que dice Yavé, hijos de Israel. Yavé tiene un pleito pendiente con la gente de esta tierra, porque no encuentra en su país ni sinceridad, ni amor, ni conocimiento de Dios.

1. Hear the word of Yahweh, Israel! for Yahweh has an accusation to bring against the inhabitants of this land. There is neither truth nor goodness nor knowledge of God in the country;

2. Sólo hay juramentos en falso y mentiras, asesinato y robo, adulterio y violencia, crímenes y más crímenes.

2. only perjury, lies, murder, theft and adultery, with continual bloodshed.

3. Por eso todo el país está de duelo y están deprimidos sus habitantes. Y desaparecen hasta los animales salvajes, las aves del cielo y los peces del mar.

3. That is why the country is in mourning with all who live there wasting away; the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, even the fish are dying.

4. Pero que nadie acuse o se defienda, pues contra ti, sacerdote, es mi demanda.

4. But let no one apologize or accuse another, for it is you, priest, whom I single out!

5. Tropezarás en pleno día y contigo tropezará el profeta en la noche, pues haré callar sus oráculos.

5. You will stumble in broad daylight, and the prophet will fall with you into darkness; I will silence you.

6. Mi pueblo languidece por falta de conocimiento, y como tú has dejado que se perdiera el conocimiento, yo también haré que pierdas mi sacerdocio. Te has olvidado de mi Ley, y también yo me olvidaré de tus hijos.

6. My people perish for want of knowledge. As you have dropped the Knowledge, I will drop you from my priesthood, and since you ignore the law of your God, I, too, will ignore your children.

7. Todos por igual me han ofendido, pues me han dejado a mí, su Gloria, por ir a unas vergüenzas.

7. All have offended me; they have exchanged me, their Glory, for idols, their shame.

8. Y como comen de los animales que mi pueblo ofrece por el pecado, les conviene que mi pueblo siga pecando.

8. Since they eat of the sacrifices for sin, they like my people to sin.

9. Trataré al sacerdote como al pueblo y le pediré cuentas por su conducta; a cada cual retribuiré según sus obras.

9. Yet it will be for the people as for the priest; I shall punish both for their conduct and repay them for their deeds.

10. Comerán, pero sin quedar satisfechos; se prostituirán, pero no ganarán nada, porque han traiciondo a Yavé.

10. They will eat and not be satisfied; they will multiply their prostitutions but remain without child, for they have no reverence for Yahweh.

11. Prostitución, vino y aguardiente se han hecho dueños de su mente.

11. Harlotry, wine and liquors have taken hold of their hearts.

12. Mi pueblo consulta a un palo y espera la respuesta de un bastón, pues un espíritu de infidelidad lo arrastra a engañar a su Dios con otros dioses.

12. My people consult a wooden idol and rely on a rod for information. A spirit of adultery leads them astray and makes them unfaithful to their God.

13. En lo alto de los cerros ofrecen sacrificios y sobre las lomas queman incienso bajo cualquier encina, álamo o espino cuya sombra sea agradable. Por esto, si sus hijas se hacen prostitutas o si sus nueras engañan a sus maridos,

13. They sacrifice on the mountain tops and offer incense on the hills, under the oak, the poplar and the terebinth, wherever the shade is pleasant.

14. no castigaré ni a sus hijas ni a sus nueras porque sean prostitutas o infieles, pues ustedes mismos se encierran con las prostitutas y sacrifican con los consagrados a la prostitución. De este modo, un pueblo que no entiende acaba por perderse. (

14. That is why, if your daughters turn to prostitution and your daughters-in-law to adultery, I will not punish them, for you yourselves go off with harlots and sacrifice with temple prostitutes. A senseless people destroys itself.

15. Si Israel es infiel, tú al menos, Judá, no cometas la misma falta. No vayan a Guilgal ni suban a Betaven, ni juren allá por la vida de Yavé.)

15. If Israel is a prostitute, there is no reason for Judah to sin. Do not go to Gilgal or Beth-aven; do not swear, "As Yahweh lives!")

16. Si Israel se muestra rebelde como una vaquilla salvaje, ¿cómo podrá Yavé llevarlo a pastar como un cordero a pleno campo?

16. Since Israel is as obstinate as a stubborn cow, will Yahweh pasture it gently as a lamb?

17. Efraím se ha aliado con los ídolos; ¡que su Dios lo deje, pues! Se despiertan de su borrachera para salir con prostitutas y prefieren su vergonzoso ídolo a mi Gloria.

17. Ephraim is devoted to idols, let Yahweh leave him alone!

18. Se lo llevará el viento en sus alas, y no habrán ganado nada con sus sacrificios.

18. After being drunk with wine they go with prostitutes; they prefer their idols to their Glory.

19. A whirlwind will sweep them away and they will have gained nothing with their sacrifices.
