Oseas, 5

1. Escuchen esto, sacerdotes; estén atentos, jefes de Israel; presten atención los de la casa del rey, pues esta sentencia es para ustedes: Han sido como un lazo de cazador en Mispá y como una red tendida en el Tabor. Yo los voy a castigar a todos porque se han hundido hasta el cuello en la corrupción.

1. Hear this, O priests! and you, people of Israel, pay attention! Hear, officials of the king for you are to be judged. You have been a snare at Mizpah and a net on Tabor,

2. Sé quién es Efraím y no me es desconocido Israel.

2. and a deep pit at Shittim, so I am to punish you all.

3. Tú, Efraím, te has entregado; tú, Israel, te has ensuciado.

3. I know what Israel is like; he cannot hide from me. Ephraim is playing the harlot; Israel is a people which defiles itself.

4. Sus faltas les impiden volver a su Dios, un espíritu de prostitución se ha hecho dueño de ellos y ya no conocen a Yavé.

4. Their deeds prevent them from returning to their God; a spirit of prostitution has taken hold of them and they do not know Yahweh.

5. El orgullo de Israel lo condena. Israël y Efraím están en crisis a causa de su pecado.

5. The pride of Israel is witness against him; this people are failing because of their guilt.

6. Con sus ovejas y sus bueyes irán en busca de Yavé, pero no lo encontrarán porque se ha alejado de ellos.

6. With their sheep and bulls they will go in search of Yahweh, but they will not find him for he has gone far from them.

7. Han traicionado a Yavé y sus hijos son ilegítimos: ¡que el destructor los devore junto con sus campos!

7. He found they were unfaithful and their children were not his. So now the destroyer will do away with them and their lands will be devastated.

8. Toquen el cuerno en Gueba, la trompeta en Rama. Den la alarma en Betaven, la voz de alerta en Benjamín. Ténganlo por seguro, tribus de Israel,

8. Blow the horn at Gibeah, the trumpet at Ramah, raise the battlecry in Beth-aven! For Benjamin has been defeated,

9. que cuando llegue su hora, Efraím será destruido.

9. the day has come in which Ephraim is ruined. Let the tribes of Israel know that this is about to occur!

10. Como los reyes de Judá han tratado de ensanchar sus dominios, mi furor los va a llevar como un torrente.

10. The princes of Judah are like those who remove border stones and I shall pour out my anger on them like a flood.

11. Efraím es un opresor y dicta sentencias injustas, pues se deja llevar por las apariencias.

11. In the same way those of Ephraim are oppressors and trample justice.

12. Pues bien, yo seré como polilla para Efraím y como carcoma para la gente de Judá. Efraím sabe que está enfermo,

12. I will be like a moth for Ephraim, like rot for Judah.

13. y Judá, que tiene úlceras. Por eso Efraím ha ido a Asiria y ha mandado mensajeros al gran rey, pero éste no podrá sanarlos ni curarles sus llagas.

13. Ephraim saw he was sick and Judah saw his ulcer. Then Ephraim turned to the great King of Assyria for help, but he will not cure you or heal your sores.

14. Yo seré como un león para Efraím, y como un cachorro para la gente de Judá. Yo, sí, yo mismo lanzaré un zarpazo y huiré, me llevaré mi presa y nadie me la podrá quitar.

14. I will be like a leopard for Ephraim and like a lion for Judah. I will tear them to pieces and leave them. When I carry them off, no one will rescue them.

15. Volveré a mi casa hasta que se reconozcan culpables y vengan a verme. En su angustia me buscarán:

15. Then I will go away and return to my place until they admit their guilt and come back to me, for in their anguish they will earnestly seek me.
