Oseas, 12

1. Efraím me ha rodeado de mentira; la gente de Israel, de falsedad; sigue todavía a su baal y se apega a sus divinidades.

1. Ephraim has surrounded me with lies; Israel comes to me with deceit. They follow Baal and run after the sanctuaries.

2. Efraím vive de ilusiones y corre todo el día tras el viento de oriente. Multiplica las mentiras y las violencias, hace alianza con Asiria mientras se pone bien con Egipto.

2. Ephraim feeds on wind, forever chasing the east wind, always more given to falsehood and violence. They have made a treaty with Assyria and brought oil to Egypt.

3. Por eso Yavé tiene una querella contra Israel; va a pedir cuentas a Jacob y darle su merecido por lo que ha hecho.

3. Yahweh has brought Jacob to trial. He will call him to account for his ways and repay his deeds.

4. Ya en el seno materno suplantó a su hermano y, cuando era hombre, peleó con Dios. Luchó con el ángel, lo venció.

4. In the womb he supplanted his brother and later he struggled with God, battling until he got the better of the angel.

5. Le suplicó llorando que le diera la bendición. Lo encontró en Betel y allí le habló

5. The angel, in fact, wept and pleaded with him! He met him at Bethel and there he spoke to him.

6. Yavé Dios de los Ejércitos (Yavé es su nombre).

6. (Yahweh, the God of armies, Yahweh is his Name.)

7. Por eso tú regresa donde tu Dios, actúa con amor y justicia, y confía siempre en él.

7. You must return to your God, practice love and justice and trust in your God.)

8. Eres un verdadero Cananeo, tú acostumbrabas a meter trampas con balanzas mal ajustadas.

8. Canaan has dishonest scales and likes to cheat.

9. Efraïm dice: «Yo me he enriquecido y me he juntado una fortuna»; pero no guardará nada de todo lo que ha juntado, pues estaba actuando mal.

9. Ephraim boasts, "I have become rich and possess a fortune." Yet he will be left with nothing of what he has treasured for he was doing wrong.

10. Yo, Yavé, que soy tu Dios desde Egipto, te haré vivir de nuevo en tiendas de campaña, como en aquellos días del Encuentro.

10. I am Yahweh, your God, since the days of Egypt; I will have you live in tents again as in the days of Meeting.

11. Hablaré a los profetas, multiplicaré las visiones y dictaré sentencias por medio de los profetas.

11. Then I will speak to the prophets, give them many visions and teach you through their parables.

12. Si Galaad no es más que pecado, ellos no son más que mentira; en Guilgal ofrecen sus sacrificios a los terneros; por eso sus altares no serán más que piedras esparcidas en el campo.

12. The people of Gilead are wicked; they are false. They offered sacrifices to bulls in Gilgal. This is why their altars will become ruins on a plowed field.

13. Huyó Jacob a las llanuras de Aram, sirvió Israel por una mujer, y por una mujer guardó rebaños.

13. Jacob fled to the plains of Aram; Israel served to have a wife, and for her sake he cared for sheep.

14. Por medio de un profeta hizo subir Yavé a Israel de Egipto y por medio de un profeta lo guardó,

14. Yahweh, in turn brought Israel out of Egypt through a prophet; by means of this prophet he cared for them.

15. pero Efraím lo ha colmado con sus provocaciones; por eso hará que recaiga sobre él la sangre que ha derramado, y su Señor le devolverá las ofensas que le ha hecho.

15. Ephraim, nevertheless, angered him bitterly. The Lord will bring down on him the blood he shed and repay him for his contempt.
