Salmos, 131

1. Cântico das peregrinações. Senhor, lembrai-vos de Davi e de sua grande piedade,*

1. O Lord, remember David, and all his meekness.

2. como ele fez ao Senhor este juramento, e este voto ao Poderoso de Jacó:

2. How he swore to the Lord, he vowed a vow to the God of Jacob:

3. “Não entrarei na tenda em que moro, não me deitarei no leito de meu repouso,

3. If I shall enter into the tabernacle of my house: if I shall go up into the bed wherein I lie:

4. não darei sono aos meus olhos, nem repouso às minhas pálpebras,

4. If I shall give sleep to my eyes, or slumber to my eyelids,

5. até que encontre uma residência para o Senhor, uma morada ao Poderoso de Jacó”.

5. Or rest to my temples: until I find out a place for the Lord, a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.

6. Ouvimos dizer que a arca estava em Éfrata, nós a encontramos nas campinas de Jaar.*

6. Behold we have heard of it in Ephrata: we have found it in the fields of the wood.

7. Entremos em sua morada, prostremo-nos diante do escabelo de seus pés.

7. We will go into his tabernacle: We will adore in the place where his feet stood.

8. Levantai-vos, Senhor, para vir ao vosso repouso, vós e a arca de vossa majestade.

8. Arise, O Lord, into thy resting place: thou and the ark, which thou hast sanctified.

9. Vistam-se de justiça os vossos sacerdotes, e jubilosos cantem de alegria vossos fiéis.

9. Let thy priests be clothed with justice: and let thy saints rejoice.

10. Pelo nome de Davi, vosso servo, não rejeiteis a face daquele que vos é consagrado.

10. For thy servant David's sake, turn not away the face of thy anointed.

11. O Senhor fez a Davi um juramento, de que não há de se retratar: “Colocarei em teu trono um descendente de tua raça.

11. The Lord hath sworn truth to David, and he will not make it void: of the fruit of thy womb I will set upon thy throne.

12. Se teus filhos guardarem minha aliança e os preceitos que eu lhes hei de ensinar, também os descendentes deles, para sempre, se sentarão em teu trono”.

12. If thy children will keep thy covenant, and these my testimonies which I shall teach them: Their children also for evermore shall sit upon thy throne.

13. Porque o Senhor escolheu Sião, ele a preferiu para sua morada.

13. For the Lord hath chosen Sion: he hath chosen it for his dwelling.

14. “É aqui para sempre o lugar de meu repouso, é aqui que habitarei porque o escolhi.

14. This is my rest for ever and ever: here will I dwell, for I have chosen it.

15. Abençoarei copiosamente sua subsistência, fartarei de pão os seus pobres.

15. Blessing, I will bless her widow: I will satisfy her poor with bread.

16. Revestirei de salvação seus sacerdotes, e seus fiéis exultarão de alegria.*

16. I will clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall rejoice with exceeding great joy.

17. Aí farei crescer o poder de Davi, aí prepararei uma lâmpada para o que me é consagrado.

17. There will I bring forth a horn to David: I have prepared a lamp for my anointed.

18. Cobrirei de confusão seus inimigos; em sua fronte, porém, brilhará meu diadema.”

18. His enemies I will clothe with confusion: but upon him will my sanctification flourish.
