Psalms, 97

1. The LORD is king; let the earth rejoice; let the many islands be glad.

2. Cloud and darkness surround the Lord; justice and right are the foundation of his throne.

3. Fire goes before him; everywhere it consumes the foes.

4. Lightning illumines the world; the earth sees and trembles.

5. The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth.

6. The heavens proclaim God's justice; all peoples see his glory.

7. All who serve idols are put to shame, who glory in worthless things; all gods bow down before you.

8. Zion hears and is glad, and the cities of Judah rejoice because of your judgments, O LORD.

9. You, LORD, are the Most High over all the earth, exalted far above all gods.

10. The LORD loves those who hate evil, protects the lives of the faithful, rescues them from the hand of the wicked.

11. Light dawns for the just; gladness, for the honest of heart.

12. Rejoice in the LORD, you just, and praise his holy name.

Psalm 97 celebrates the majesty and the power of God over all things. The psalmist describes the coming of the Lord to rule and judge the earth, and calls on all nations to rejoice and worship God. Following are five verses related to the topics covered in Psalm 97:

Isaiah 52:7: "How beautiful are the feet about the feet of the good ones, which makes the peace heard, which announces the good, which makes salvation heard, which says, Sia: Your God reigns!" This verse talks about the message of peace and salvation that is announced by the messengers of God, and which is an expression of his reign upon the earth.

Psalm 99:1: "The Lord reigns, the peoples shake; He is enthroned upon the cherubim, shudder the earth." This verse emphasizes sovereignty and God's power over the nations of the earth, and its majestic presence in its heavenly dwelling.

Psalm 103:19: "The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom dominates over everything." This verse talks about God's position of supremacy about all things, and his government over the universe.

Psalm 146:10: "The Lord reigns forever; your God, O Zion, reigns from generation to generation. Praise the Lord!" This verse reiterates the eternal and lasting nature of God's reign, and calls on all people praising Him.

Revelation 19:6: "And I heard how the voice of a great crowd, and how the voice of many waters, and how the voice of great thunders, which said, Hallelujah! " This verse describes the celebration that occurs in heaven when God assumes his full reign upon the earth, and all creatures worship and praise him.
