Psalms, 20

1. For the leader. A psalm of David.

2. The LORD answer you in time of distress; the name of the God of Jacob defend you!

3. May God send you help from the temple, from Zion be your support.

4. May God remember your every offering, graciously accept your holocaust, Selah

5. Grant what is in your heart, fulfill your every plan.

6. May we shout for joy at your victory, raise the banners in the name of our God. The LORD grant your every prayer!

7. Now I know victory is given to the anointed of the LORD. God will answer him from the holy heavens with a strong arm that brings victory.

8. Some rely on chariots, others on horses, but we on the name of the LORD our God.

9. They collapse and fall, but we stand strong and firm.

10. LORD, grant victory to the king; answer when we call upon you.

Psalm 20 is a prayer for the success and protection of the king and the people of Israel in times of war. The psalmist invokes divine help and asks God to hear his prayers. Below are five verses related to the topics covered in Psalm 20:

Isaiah 31:5: "As birds fly, so the Lord of hosts will protect Jerusalem; He will protect it, He shall free it, save it and rescue it." This verse speaks of the protection that God offers to his people in times of war, just as the psalmist asks in Psalm 20.

2 Chronicles 32:7: "They strive and be brave; do not be afraid or discouraged before the king of Assyria and all the army with him, for there is a greater with us than with him." This verse speaks of the trust that King Hezekiah had in divine help in times of war, as well as the psalmist in Psalm 20.

Psalm 33:16: "No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes his great strength." This verse highlights the importance of divine aid in the protection of God's people, regardless of the size of the army or the military force.

Deuteronomy 20:4: "For the Lord, your God, will accompany you and fight for you against the enemies to give them victory." This verse speaks of the confidence that the people of Israel had in divine help in times of war, as well as the psalmist in Psalm 20.

Psalm 144:1: "Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands to war and my fingers to battle." This verse speaks of the psalmist's confidence in divine help in times of war, as is Psalm 20.
