Psalms, 106

1. Give glory to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

1. Lodate il Signore, poiché è buono, poiché in eterno è la sua misericordia.

2. Let them say so that have been redeemed by the Lord, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy: and gathered out of the countries.

2. Chi può narrare le gesta del Signore e far risuonare tutta la sua lode?

3. From the rising and the setting of the sun, from the north and from the sea.

3. Beati quelli che osservano il diritto e agiscono con giustizia in ogni tempo.

4. They wandered in a wilderness, in a place without water: they found not the way of a city for their habitation.

4. Ricòrdati di noi, o Signore, per amore del tuo popolo, vìsitaci con la tua salvezza,

5. They were hungry and thirsty: their soul fainted in them.

5. affinché vediamo la felicità dei tuoi eletti, ci rallegriamo della gioia del tuo popolo e ci gloriamo con la tua eredità.

6. And they cried to the Lord in their tribulation: and he delivered them out of their distresses.

6. Abbiamo peccato, come i nostri padri; abbiamo operato il male, abbiamo agito con empietà.

7. And he led them into the right way: that they might go to a city of habitation.

7. I nostri padri in Egitto non compresero i tuoi prodigi; non si ricordarono di tanti tuoi benefici; si ribellarono contro l'Eccelso presso il Mar Rosso.

8. Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him: and his wonderful works to the children of men.

8. Ma Dio li salvò in grazia del suo nome, per rendere manifesta la sua potenza.

9. For he hath satisfied the empty soul, and hath filled the hungry soul with good things.

9. Minacciò il Mar Rosso e si seccò; li condusse negli abissi, come in un deserto.

10. Such as sat in darkness and in the shadow of death: bound in want and in iron.

10. Li strappò dal potere di chi li odiava, li riscattò dal potere del nemico.

11. Because they had exasperated the words of God: and provoked the counsel of the most High:

11. Le acque sommersero i loro avversari, non sopravvisse di loro neppure uno.

12. And their heart was humbled with labours: they were weakened, and their was none to help them.

12. Allora credettero alle sue parole, e cantarono la sua lode.

13. Then they cried to the Lord in their affliction: and he delivered them out of their distresses.

13. Ma dimenticarono presto le sue opere, non prestarono fede al suo disegno.

14. And he brought them out of darkness, and the shadow of death; and broke their bonds in sunder.

14. Si accesero le loro brame nel deserto, e tentarono Dio nella steppa.

15. Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him, and his wonderful works to the children of men.

15. Ed egli concesse quanto chiedevano e soddisfece la loro ingordigia.

16. Because he hath broken gates of brass, and burst the iron bars.

16. Si mostrarono gelosi contro Mosè negli accampamenti, contro Aronne, il santo del Signore.

17. He took them out of the way of their iniquity: for they were brought low for their injustices.

17. Allora si aprì la terra e inghiottì Datan, e seppellì il gruppo di Abiram.

18. Their soul abhorred all manner of meat: and they drew nigh even to the gates of death.

18. Divampò il fuoco nella sua fazione, e la fiamma divorò i ribelli.

19. And they cried to the Lord in their affliction: and he delivered them out of their distresses.

19. Fecero un vitello sull'Oreb e si prostrarono davanti a un metallo fuso;

20. He sent his word, and healed them: and delivered them from their destructions.

20. scambiarono la loro gloria con la figura di un toro che mangia fieno.

21. Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him: and his wonderful works to the children of men.

21. Si erano dimenticati di Dio che li aveva salvati, che aveva operato in Egitto cose grandi:

22. And let them sacrifice the sacrifice of praise: and declare his works with joy.

22. prodigi nella terra di Cam, portenti presso il Mar Rosso.

23. They that go down to the sea in ships, doing business in the great waters:

23. Allora pensò di sterminarli, se Mosè, suo eletto, non si fosse eretto sulla breccia, davanti a lui, per stornare la sua ira dallo sterminio.

24. These have seen the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.

24. Rifiutarono un paese delizioso, non credettero alla sua parola.

25. He said the word, and there arose a storm of wind: and the waves thereof were lifted up.

25. Mormorarono nelle loro tende, non diedero ascolto alla voce del Signore.

26. They mount up to the heavens, and they go down to the depths: their soul pined away with evils.

26. Allora egli alzò su di loro la mano che li avrebbe abbattuti nel deserto

27. They were troubled, and reeled like a drunken man; and all their wisdom was swallowed up.

27. e avrebbe disperso fra le genti la loro progenie, li avrebbe disseminati per le regioni.

28. And they cried to the Lord in their affliction: and he brought them out of their distresses.

28. Si asservirono a Baal di Peor, mangiarono sacrifici di morti.

29. And he turned the storm into a breeze: and its waves were still.

29. Lo provocarono con le loro azioni e scoppiò fra essi una pestilenza.

30. And they rejoiced because they were still: and he brought them to the haven which they wished for.

30. Intervenne Finees e agì da giudice e cessò la pestilenza;

31. Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him, and his wonderful works to the children of men.

31. ciò gli fu imputato a giustizia, di generazione in generazione, per sempre.

32. And let them exalt him in the church of the people: and praise him in the chair of the ancients.

32. Lo irritarono presso le acque di Meriba e fu punito Mosè per causa loro;

33. He hath turned rivers into a wilderness: and the sources of water into dry ground:

33. poiché avevano amareggiato il suo animo e disse cose insensate con la sua bocca.

34. A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

34. Non sterminarono i popoli, come aveva loro ordinato il Signore,

35. He hath turned a wilderness into pools of water, and a dry land into water springs.

35. si mescolarono con le nazioni e appresero a compiere le loro opere;

36. And hath placed there the hungry; and they made a city for their habitation.

36. prestarono culto ai loro idoli che diventarono per loro un tranello.

37. And they sowed fields, and planted vineyards: and they yielded fruit of birth.

37. Immolarono i loro figli e le loro figlie ai falsi dèi.

38. And he blessed them, and they were multiplied exceedingly: and their cattle he suffered not to decrease.

38. Versarono il sangue innocente, il sangue dei loro figli e figlie che immolarono agli idoli di Canaan, e fu profanata la terra con delitti di sangue.

39. Then they were brought to be few: and they were afflicted through the trouble of evils and sorrow.

39. Si resero impuri con le loro azioni e si prostituirono con i loro misfatti.

40. Contempt was poured forth upon their princes: and he caused them to wander where there was no passing, and out of the way.

40. Allora scoppiò l'ira del Signore contro il suo popolo ed ebbe in orrore la sua eredità.

41. And he helped the poor out of poverty: and made him families like a flock of sheep.

41. Li consegnò in potere delle genti e li dominarono i loro avversari;

42. The just shall see, and shall rejoice, and all iniquity shall stop their mouth.

42. li oppressero i loro nemici e dovettero piegarsi sotto il loro dominio.

43. Who is wise, and will keep these things: and will understand the mercies of the Lord?

43. Molte volte li aveva salvati, ma essi si ostinarono nei loro disegni e furono abbattuti per le loro iniquità.

44.

44. Allora Dio guardò con favore sulla loro sventura, quando udì la loro implorazione.

45.

45. Si ricordò della sua alleanza e si mosse a pietà di loro per la sua grande misericordia;

46.

46. fece sì che trovassero favore presso coloro che li avevano deportati.

47.

47. Salvaci, Signore nostro Dio, e radunaci dalle nazioni, perché possiamo lodare il tuo santo nome e allietarci della tua lode.

48.

48. Benedetto il Signore, Dio d'Israele, da sempre e per sempre. E dirà tutto il popolo: Amen! Alleluia.
