Ezekiel, 25

1. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

1. La parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

2. “Son of man, set your face against the sons of Ammon, and you shall prophesy about them.

2. Fils de l`homme, tourne ta face vers les enfants d`Ammon, Et prophétise contre eux!

3. And you shall say to the sons of Ammon: Listen to the word of the Lord God: Thus says the Lord God: Because you have said, ‘Well, well!’ over my sanctuary, when it was profaned, and over the land of Israel, when it was desolated, and over the house of Judah, when they were led into captivity,

3. Tu diras aux enfants d`Ammon: Écoutez la parole du Seigneur, de l`Éternel! Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel: Parce que tu as dit: Ah! ah! Sur mon sanctuaire qui était profané, Sur la terre d`Israël qui était dévastée, Et sur la maison de Juda qui allait en captivité,

4. therefore, I will deliver you to the sons of the East, as an inheritance. And they will arrange their fences within you, and they will place their tents within you. They will eat your crops, and they will drink your milk.

4. Voici, je te donne en possession aux fils de l`Orient; Ils établiront au milieu de toi leurs enclos, Et ils y placeront leurs demeures; Ils mangeront tes fruits, Ils boiront ton lait.

5. And I will make Rabbah into the habitation of camels, and the sons of Ammon into the resting place of cattle. And you shall know that I am the Lord.

5. Je ferai de Rabba un parc pour les chameaux, Et du pays des enfants d`Ammon un bercail pour les brebis. Et vous saurez que je suis l`Éternel.

6. For thus says the Lord God: Because you have clapped your hands and stomped your foot, and have rejoiced with all your heart against the land of Israel,

6. Car ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel: Parce que tu as battu des mains Et frappé du pied, Parce que tu t`es réjoui dédaigneusement et du fond de l`âme Au sujet de la terre d`Israël,

7. therefore, behold, I will extend my hand over you, and I will deliver you as a spoil of the Gentiles. And I will destroy you from the peoples, and I will perish you from the lands, and I will crush you. And you shall know that I am the Lord.

7. Voici, j`étends ma main sur toi, Et je te livre en proie aux nations; Je t`extermine du milieu des peuples, Je te retranche du nombre des pays, Je te détruis. Et tu sauras que je suis l`Éternel.

8. Thus says the Lord God: Because Moab and Seir have said, ‘Behold, the house of Judah is like all the Gentiles!’

8. Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel: Parce que Moab et Séir ont dit: Voici, la maison de Juda est comme toutes les nations!

9. therefore, behold, I will open the shoulder of Moab from the cities, from his cities, I say, and from his borders, the famous cities of the land of Beth-Jesimoth, and Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim,

9. A cause de cela, voici, j`ouvre le territoire de Moab Du côté des villes, de ses villes frontières, L`ornement du pays, Beth Jeschimoth, Baal Meon et Kirjathaïm,

10. with the sons of Ammon, to the sons of the East, and I will give it to them as an inheritance, so that there may no longer be a remembrance of the sons of Ammon among the Gentiles.

10. Je l`ouvre aux fils de l`orient Qui marchent contre les enfants d`Ammon, Et je le leur donne en possession, Afin que les enfants d`Ammon ne soient plus comptés parmi les nations.

11. And I will execute judgments in Moab. And they shall know that I am the Lord.

11. J`exercerai mes jugements contre Moab. Et ils sauront que je suis l`Éternel.

12. Thus says the Lord God: Because Idumea has taken vengeance, so as to vindicate herself against the sons of Judah, and has sinned grievously, and has sought revenge against them,

12. Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel: Parce qu`Édom s`est livré à la vengeance Envers la maison de Juda, Parce qu`il s`est rendu coupable Et s`est vengé d`elle,

13. therefore, thus says the Lord God: I will extend my hand over Idumea, and I will take from it both man and beast, and I will make it desolate from the south. And those who are in Dedan will fall by the sword.

13. Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel: J`étends ma main sur Édom, J`en extermine les hommes et les bêtes, J`en fais un désert, de Théman à Dedan; Ils tomberont par l`épée.

14. And I will issue my vengeance upon Idumea, by the hand of my people, Israel. And they shall act in Idumea in accord with my wrath and my fury. And they shall know my vengeance, says the Lord God.

14. J`exercerai ma vengeance sur Édom Par la main de mon peuple d`Israël; Il traitera Édom selon ma colère et ma fureur; Et ils reconnaîtront ma vengeance, Dit le Seigneur, l`Éternel.

15. Thus says the Lord God: Because the Philistines have taken vengeance, and have revenged themselves with all their soul, destroying, and fulfilling ancient hostilities,

15. Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel: Parce que les Philistins se sont livrés à la vengeance, Parce qu`ils se sont vengés dédaigneusement et du fond de l`âme, Voulant tout détruire, dans leur haine éternelle,

16. because of this, thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will extend my hand over the Philistines, and I will destroy those who destroy, and I will perish the remnant of the maritime regions.

16. Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel: Voici, j`étends ma main sur les Philistins, J`extermine les Kéréthiens, Et je détruis ce qui reste sur la côte de la mer.

17. And I will execute great vengeance against them, reproving them in fury. And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I will send my vengeance upon them.”

17. J`exercerai sur eux de grandes vengeances, En les châtiant avec fureur. Et ils sauront que je suis l`Éternel, Quand j`exercerai sur eux ma vengeance.

Ezekiel 25 is a chapter that contains a series of judgment prophecies against neighboring nations of Israel. Psalm 94:2: "Rise up, O judge of the land; give it to the proud." In this verse, the psalmist calls for divine justice against the superb. In Ezekiel chapter 25, nations are punished because of their arrogance and disrespect for God, showing how God gives the prisons.

Proverbs 21:15: "To do justice is joy to the righteous, but astonishment for those who practice iniquity." This verse talks about the joy of justice to those who do what is right and the punishment for those who do evil. In Ezekiel chapter 25, nations are punished because of their bad deeds, showing how justice can be astonished to the wicked.

Amos 1:3: "Thus saith the Lord, For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not remove the punishment, because they have traced Gilead with iron rails." In this verse, God talks about the judgment of Damascus because of his transgressions. In Ezekiel chapter 25, the neighboring nations of Israel are punished because of their bad deeds, showing how God does not tolerate transgression and disrespect.
