Ezekiel, 12

1. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

1. La parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

2. “Son of man, you live in the midst of a provoking house. They have eyes to see, and they do not see; and ears to hear, and they do not hear. For they are a provoking house.

2. Fils de l`homme, tu habites au milieu d`une famille de rebelles, qui ont des yeux pour voir et qui ne voient point, des oreilles pour entendre et qui n`entendent point; car c`est une famille de rebelles.

3. As for you, then, son of man, prepare for yourself the supplies for traveling far away, and travel away in the daytime in their sight. And you shall travel from your place to another place in their sight, so that perhaps they may consider it. For they are a provoking house.

3. Et toi, fils de l`homme, prépare tes effets de voyage, et pars de jour, sous leurs yeux! Pars, en leur présence, du lieu où tu es pour un autre lieu: peut-être verront-ils qu`ils sont une famille de rebelles.

4. And you shall carry your supplies outside, like the supplies of one who is traveling far away, in the daytime in their sight. Then you shall go forth in the evening in their presence, just as one goes forth who is moving far away.

4. Sors tes effets comme des effets de voyage, de jour sous leurs yeux; et toi, pars le soir, en leur présence, comme partent des exilés.

5. Dig for yourself through the wall, before their eyes. And you shall go out through it.

5. Sous leurs yeux, tu perceras la muraille, et tu sortiras tes effets par là.

6. In their sight, you shall be carried on shoulders, you shall be carried in the dark. You shall cover your face, and you shall not see the ground. For I have appointed you as a portent for the house of Israel.”

6. Sous leurs yeux, tu les mettras sur ton épaule, tu les sortiras pendant l`obscurité, tu te couvriras le visage, et tu ne regarderas pas la terre; car je veux que tu sois un signe pour la maison d`Israël.

7. Therefore, I did just as he had instructed me. I brought out my supplies in the daytime, like the supplies of one who is moving far away. And in the evening, I dug myself through the wall by hand. And I went out in the dark, and I was carried on shoulders, in their sight.

7. Je fis ce qui m`avait été ordonné: je sortis de jour mes effets comme des effets de voyage, le soir je perçai la muraille avec la main, et je les sortis pendant l`obscurité et les mis sur mon épaule, en leur présence.

8. And the word of the Lord came to me, in the morning, saying:

8. Le matin, la parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

9. “Son of man, has not the house of Israel, the provoking house, said to you: ‘What are you doing?’

9. Fils de l`homme, la maison d`Israël, cette famille de rebelles ne t`a-t-elle pas dit: Que fais-tu?

10. Say to them: Thus says the Lord God: This is the burden concerning my leader who is in Jerusalem, and concerning the entire house of Israel, who are in their midst.

10. Dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel: Cet oracle concerne le prince qui est à Jérusalem, et toute la maison d`Israël qui s`y trouve.

11. Say: I am your portent. Just as I have done, so shall it be done to them. They will be taken captive and moved far away.

11. Dis: Je suis pour vous un signe. Ce que j`ai fait, c`est ce qui leur sera fait: Ils iront en exil, en captivité.

12. And the leader who is in their midst will be carried on shoulders; he will go forth in darkness. They will dig through the wall, so that they may lead him away. His face will be covered, so that he may not see the land with his eye.

12. Le prince qui est au milieu d`eux Mettra son bagage sur l`épaule pendant l`obscurité et partira; On percera la muraille pour le faire sortir; Il se couvrira le visage, Pour que ses yeux ne regardent pas la terre.

13. And I will extend my net over him, and he will be captured in my dragnet. And I will lead him to Babylon, into the land of the Chaldeans, but he himself will not see it. And there he shall die.

13. J`étendrai mon rets sur lui, Et il sera pris dans mon filet; Je l`emmènerai à Babylone, dans le pays des Chaldéens; Mais il ne le verra pas, et il y mourra.

14. And all who are around him, his guards and his companies, I will scatter into every wind. And I will unsheathe the sword after them.

14. Tous ceux qui l`entourent et lui sont en aide, Et toutes ses troupes, je les disperserai à tous les vents, Et je tirerai l`épée derrière eux.

15. And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I will have dispersed them among the Gentiles, and will have sowed them among the lands.

15. Et ils sauront que je suis l`Éternel, Quand je les répandrai parmi les nations, Quand je les disperserai en divers pays.

16. And I will leave behind a few men of them, apart from the sword, and the famine, and the pestilence, so that they may declare all their wicked deeds among the Gentiles, to whom they will go. And they shall know that I am the Lord.”

16. Mais je laisserai d`eux quelques hommes Qui échapperont à l`épée, à la famine et à la peste, Afin qu`ils racontent toutes leurs abominations Parmi les nations où ils iront. Et ils sauront que je suis l`Éternel.

17. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

17. La parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

18. “Son of man, eat your bread in consternation. Moreover, drink your water hurriedly and in sorrow.

18. Fils de l`homme, tu mangeras ton pain avec tremblement, Tu boiras ton eau avec inquiétude et angoisse.

19. And say to the people of the land: Thus says the Lord God, to those who are living in Jerusalem, in the land of Israel: They shall eat their bread in anxiety, and drink their water in desolation, so that the land may be desolate before its multitude, because of the iniquity of all who are living in it.

19. Dis au peuple du pays: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel, Sur les habitants de Jérusalem dans la terre d`Israël! Ils mangeront leur pain avec angoisse, Et ils boiront leur eau avec épouvante; Car leur pays sera dépouillé de tout ce qu`il contient, A cause de la violence de tous ceux qui l`habitent.

20. And cities that are now inhabited will become desolate, and the land will be forsaken. And you shall know that I am the Lord.”

20. Les villes peuplées seront détruites, Et le pays sera ravagé. Et vous saurez que je suis l`Éternel.

21. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

21. La parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

22. “Son of man, what is this proverb that you have in the land of Israel? saying: ‘The days shall be extended in length, and every vision shall perish.’

22. Fils de l`homme, que signifient ces discours moqueurs Que vous tenez dans le pays d`Israël: Les jours se prolongent, Et toutes les visions restent sans effet?

23. Therefore, say to them: Thus says the Lord God: I will cause this proverb to cease, and it shall no longer be a common saying in Israel. And tell them that the days are approaching, and the word of every vision.

23. C`est pourquoi dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel: Je ferai cesser ces discours moqueurs; On ne les tiendra plus en Israël. Dis-leur, au contraire: Les jours approchent, Et toutes les visions s`accompliront.

24. For there shall be no longer be any empty visions, nor any ambiguous divination in the midst of the sons of Israel.

24. Car il n`y aura plus de visions vaines, Ni d`oracles trompeurs, Au milieu de la maison d`Israël.

25. For I, the Lord, will speak. And whatever word I will speak, it shall be done, and it shall not be delayed any more. Instead, in your days, O provoking house, I will speak a word and do it, says the Lord God.”

25. Car moi, l`Éternel, je parlerai; Ce que je dirai s`accomplira, Et ne sera plus différé; Oui, de vos jours, famille de rebelles, Je prononcerai une parole et je l`accomplirai, Dit le Seigneur, l`Éternel.

26. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

26. La parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

27. “Son of man, behold the house of Israel, those who are saying: ‘The visions that this one sees is many days away,’ and, ‘This man prophesies about times that are far away.’

27. Fils de l`homme, voici, la maison d`Israël dit: Les visions qu`il a ne sont pas près de s`accomplir; Il prophétise pour des temps éloignés.

28. Because of this, say to them: Thus says the Lord God: No word of mine will be delayed any longer. The word that I will speak will be fulfilled, says the Lord God.”

28. C`est pourquoi dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel: Il n`y aura plus de délai dans l`accomplissement de mes paroles; La parole que je prononcerai s`accomplira, Dit le Seigneur, l`Éternel.

" This verse describes the fall of Jerusalem, which was the event that Ezekiel was prophesying that would happen.

Ezekiel 12:21-23: "And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Son of man, who is this proverb that you have in the land of Israel, who says, Do the days last, and all vision fades? Therefore, say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God, I shall cease this proverb, and will no longer be repeated in Israel, but say unto them, The days are close, and the vision of the whole prophet will be fulfilled. " This verse shows that God is aware of people's thinking that prophecy will never be fulfilled and that He is about to act to prove that His words are true.

Psalm 52:3-4: "You love evil more than good, the lie more than the truth. You love every pernicious word, O deceiving language!" This verse talks about the importance of truth and honesty, something Ezekiel emphasizes in talking about the consequences of the sins of the people.
