Ezekiel, 21

1. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

1. (21:6) Et la parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

2. “Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem, and pour in drops toward the sanctuaries, and prophesy against the soil of Israel.

2. (21:7) Fils de l`homme, tourne ta face vers Jérusalem, Et parle contre les lieux saints! Prophétise contre le pays d`Israël!

3. And you shall say to the land of Israel: Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, and I will cast my sword from its sheath, and I will slay the just and the impious among you.

3. (21:8) Tu diras au pays d`Israël: Ainsi parle l`Éternel: Voici, j`en veux à toi, Je tirerai mon épée de son fourreau, Et j`exterminerai du milieu de toi le juste et le méchant.

4. But in as much as I have slain among you the just and the impious, for this reason my sword will go forth from its sheath against all flesh, from the south even to the north.

4. (21:9) Parce que je veux exterminer du milieu de toi le juste et le méchant, Mon épée sortira de son fourreau, Pour frapper toute chair, Du midi au septentrion.

5. So may all flesh know that I, the Lord, have led my sword out of its sheath irrevocably.

5. (21:10) Et toute chair saura Que moi, l`Éternel, j`ai tiré mon épée de son fourreau. Elle n`y rentrera plus.

6. And as for you, son of man, groan in the breaking of your back, and groan in bitterness before them.

6. (21:11) Et toi, fils de l`homme, gémis! Les reins brisés et l`amertume dans l`âme, Gémis sous leurs regards!

7. And when they will say to you, ‘Why are you groaning?’ you shall say: ‘On behalf of the report, For it is approaching. And every heart will waste away, and every hand will be broken, and every spirit will be weakened, and water will flow across every knee.’ Behold, it is approaching and it will happen, says the Lord God.”

7. (21:12) Et s`ils te disent: Pourquoi gémis-tu? Tu répondras: Parce qu`il arrive une nouvelle... Tous les coeurs s`alarmeront, Toutes les mains deviendront faibles, Tous les esprits seront abattus, Tous les genoux se fondront en eau... Voici, elle arrive, elle est là! Dit le Seigneur, l`Éternel.

8. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

8. (21:13) La parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

9. “Son of man, prophesy, and you shall say: Thus says the Lord God: Speak: The sword! The sword has been sharpened and polished!

9. (21:14) Fils de l`homme, prophétise, et dis: Ainsi parle l`Éternel. Dis: L`épée! l`épée! Elle est aiguisée, elle est polie.

10. It has been sharpened, so that it may cut down victims! It has been polished, so that it may shine! You are disturbing the scepter of my son. You have cut down every tree.

10. (21:15) C`est pour massacrer qu`elle est aiguisée, C`est pour étinceler qu`elle est polie... Nous réjouirons-nous? Le sceptre de mon fils méprise tout bois...

11. And I have sent it to be made smooth, so that it may be handled. This sword has been sharpened, and it has been polished, so that it may be in the hand of the one who kills.

11. (21:16) On l`a donnée à polir, Pour que la main la saisisse; Elle est aiguisée, l`épée, elle est polie, Pour armer la main de celui qui massacre.

12. Cry out and wail, O son of man! For this has been done among my people, this is among all the leaders of Israel, who have fled. They have been handed over to the sword, with my people. Therefore, slap your thigh,

12. (21:17) Crie et gémis, fils de l`homme! Car elle est tirée contre mon peuple, Contre tous les princes d`Israël; Ils sont livrés à l`épée avec mon peuple. Frappe donc sur ta cuisse!

13. for it has been tested. And this one, when he will have overthrown the scepter, will not be, says the Lord God.

13. (21:18) Oui, l`épreuve sera faite; Et que sera-ce, si ce sceptre qui méprise tout est anéanti? Dit le Seigneur, l`Éternel.

14. You therefore, O son of man, prophesy, and strike hand against hand, and let the sword be doubled, and let the sword of the slain be tripled. This is the sword of the great slaughter, which causes them to be utterly stupefied,

14. (21:19) Et toi, fils de l`homme, prophétise, Et frappe des mains! Et que les coups de l`épée soient doublés, soient triplés! C`est l`épée du carnage, l`épée du grand carnage, L`épée qui doit les poursuivre.

15. and to waste away in heart, and which multiplies ruin. At all their gates, I have presented the consternation of the sword, which has been sharpened and polished so as to shine, which has been dressed for the slaughter.

15. (21:20) Pour jeter l`effroi dans les coeurs, Pour multiplier les victimes, A toutes leurs portes je les menacerai de l`épée. Ah! elle est faite pour étinceler, Elle est aiguisée pour massacrer.

16. Be sharpened! Go to the right or to the left, whichever way is the desire of your face.

16. (21:21) Rassemble tes forces, tourne-toi à droite! Place-toi, tourne-toi à gauche! Dirige de tous côtés ton tranchant!

17. And then I will clap hand against hand, and I will fulfill my indignation. I, the Lord, have spoken.”

17. (21:22) Et moi aussi, je frapperai des mains, Et j`assouvirai ma fureur. C`est moi, l`Éternel, qui parle.

18. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

18. (21:23) La parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

19. “And as for you, son of man, set for yourself two ways, so that the sword of the king of Babylon may approach. Both shall go forth from one land. And with a hand, he will grasp and cast lots; he will cast at the head of the way of the community.

19. (21:24) Fils de l`homme, trace deux chemins pour servir de passage à l`épée du roi de Babylone; tous les deux doivent sortir du même pays; marque un signe, marque-le à l`entrée du chemin qui conduit à une ville.

20. You shall appoint a way, so that the sword may approach to Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, or to Judah, into Jerusalem, greatly fortified.

20. (21:25) Tu traceras l`un des chemins pour que l`épée arrive à Rabbath, ville des enfants d`Ammon, et l`autre pour qu`elle arrive en Juda, à Jérusalem, ville fortifiée.

21. For the king of Babylon stood at the fork, at the head of the two ways, seeking divination, shuffling arrows; he inquired of idols, and he consulted entrails.

21. (21:26) Car le roi de Babylone se tient au carrefour, à l`entrée des deux chemins, pour tirer des présages; il secoue les flèches, il interroge les théraphim, il examine le foie.

22. To his right was set the divination over Jerusalem, to place battering rams so as to open a mouth for the slaughter, to lift up the voice of wailing, to place battering rams opposite the gates, to cast up a rampart, to build fortifications.

22. (21:27) Le sort, qui est dans sa droite, désigne Jérusalem, où l`on devra dresser des béliers, commander le carnage, et pousser des cris de guerre; on dressera des béliers contre les portes, on élèvera des terrasses, on formera des retranchements.

23. And he shall be, in their eyes, like someone consulting an oracle in vain, or imitating the leisure of Sabbaths. But he will call to mind iniquities, so that it will be captured.

23. (21:28) Ils ne voient là que de vaines divinations, eux qui ont fait des serments. Mais lui, il se souvient de leur iniquité, en sorte qu`ils seront pris.

24. Therefore, thus says the Lord God: Because you have been remembered in your iniquities, and you have revealed your betrayals, and your sins have appeared within all your plans, because, I say, you have been remembered, you will be captured by a hand.

24. (21:29) C`est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel: Parce que vous rappelez le souvenir de votre iniquité, en mettant à nu vos transgressions, en manifestant vos péchés dans toutes vos actions; parce que vous en rappelez le souvenir, vous serez saisis par sa main.

25. But as for you, O impious leader of Israel, whose day has arrived that was predetermined at the time of iniquity:

25. (21:30) Et toi, profane, méchant, prince d`Israël, dont le jour arrive au temps où l`iniquité est à son terme!

26. Thus says the Lord God: Take away the diadem, remove the crown. Is this not what has exalted the lowly one, and brought low the sublime one?

26. (21:31) Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel: La tiare sera ôtée, le diadème sera enlevé. Les choses vont changer. Ce qui est abaissé sera élevé, et ce qui est élevé sera abaissé.

27. Iniquity, iniquity, iniquity I will make it. And this was not done until the one arrived to whom judgment belongs, and I will hand it over to him.

27. (21:32) J`en ferai une ruine, une ruine, une ruine. Mais cela n`aura lieu qu`à la venue de celui à qui appartient le jugement et à qui je le remettrai.

28. And as for you, son of man, prophesy, and say: Thus says the Lord God to the sons of Ammon, and to their disgrace, and you shall say: O sword, O sword, unsheathe yourself so as to slay; polish yourself so as to kill and to shine,

28. (21:33) Et toi, fils de l`homme, prophétise, et dis: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l`Éternel, sur les enfants d`Ammon et sur leur opprobre. Dis: L`épée, l`épée est tirée, elle est polie, pour massacrer, pour dévorer, pour étinceler!

29. while they look upon you in vain, and they divine lies, so that you may be given over to the necks of the wounded impious, whose day has arrived that was predetermined at the time of iniquity.

29. (21:34) Au milieu de tes visions vaines et de tes oracles menteurs, elle te fera tomber parmi les cadavres des méchants, dont le jour arrive au temps où l`iniquité est à son terme.

30. Be returned to your sheath! I will judge you in the place where you were created, in the land of your nativity.

30. (21:35) Remets ton épée dans le fourreau. Je te jugerai dans le lieu où tu as été créé, dans le pays de ta naissance.

31. And I will pour out upon you my indignation. In the fire of my fury, I will fan you, and I will give you over to the hands of cruel men, who have devised destruction.

31. (21:36) Je répandrai sur toi ma colère, je soufflerai contre toi avec le feu de ma fureur, et je te livrerai entre les mains d`hommes qui dévorent, qui ne travaillent qu`à détruire.

32. You will be food for the fire; your blood will be in the midst of the land; you will be delivered to oblivion. For I, the Lord, have spoken.”

32. (21:37) Tu seras consumé par le feu; ton sang coulera au milieu du pays; on ne se souviendra plus de toi. Car moi, l`Éternel, j`ai parlé.
