Amós, 2

1. Así dice Yavé: «Mi sentencia en contra de Moab por sus muchos crímenes será sin apelación. Por haber quemado los huesos del rey de Edom hasta reducirlos a cenizas,

1. Yahweh says this, "Because Moab has sinned, not once but three times and even more, I will not relent. Because they burned to a cinder the bones of the king of Edom,

2. yo prenderé fuego contra Moab, que devorará los palacios de Cariot. Moab caerá estrepitosamente en medio de los gritos de los combatientes y del toque de las trompetas.

2. I will send fire on Moab and it shall be destroyed in the midst of the tumult, with war cries and the blast of the trumpet.

3. Arrasaré a todos sus gobernantes y aniquilaré, con él, a todos sus príncipes», dice Yavé.

3. I will do away with their ruler and all the princes with him," says Yahweh.

4. Así dice Yavé: «Mi sentencia en contra de Juda por sus muchos crímenes será sin apelación. Porque han despreciado la Ley de Yavé y no han guardado sus preceptos, sino que se dejaron llevar por sus falsos dioses, detrás de los cuales corrían ya sus padres.

4. Yahweh says this, "Because Judah has sinned, not once but three times and even more, I will not relent. Because they rejected the law of Yahweh and did not keep his statutes, but have been led astray by the falsehood after which their fathers walked,

5. Prenderé fuego a Judá y se quemarán los palacios de Jerusalén.»

5. I will send fire upon Judah and it will devour the fortresses of Jerusalem."

6. Así dice Yavé: «Mi sentencia en contra de Israel por sus muchos crímenes será sin apelación. Porque venden al inocente por dinero y al necesitado por un par de sandalias,

6. Yahweh says this, "Because Israel has sinned, not once but three times and even more, I will not relent. They sell the just for money and the needy for a pair of sandals;

7. pisotean a los pobres en el suelo y les impiden a los humildes conseguir lo que desean. Padre e hijo, faltándole al respeto a mi santo Nombre, tienen relaciones con la misma mujer;

7. they tread on the head of the poor and trample them upon the dust of the earth, while they silence the right of the afflicted; a man and his father go to the same woman to profane my holy name;

8. tomando las ropas empeñadas, se acuestan cerca de cualquier altar, y con el vino de las multas se emborrachan en la Casa de su Dios.

8. they stretch out upon garments taken in pledge, beside every altar; they take the wine of those they swindle and are drunk in the house of their God.

9. Yo, sin embargo, en atención a ustedes, destruí a los amorreos, tan altos como cedros y tan forzudos como encinas, cortándoles sus ramas y arrancándoles sus raíces.

9. It was I who destroyed the Amorites before them, whose height was like the height of the cedar, a people as sturdy as an oak. I destroyed their fruit above and their roots below.

10. Yo, también, los saqué a ustedes de Egipto y los conduje por el desierto durante cuarenta años, para que tomaran posesión del territorio amorreo.

10. It was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt and led you forty years in the wilderness to take possession of the land of the Amorites.

11. Yo, de entre tus hijos hice surgir profetas y me consagraba tus jóvenes como nazireos. ¿No es así, hijos de Israel?

11. It was I who raised up prophets among your sons, and Nazirites among your young men. Is this not so, people of Israel?" says Yahweh.

12. Pero ustedes hicieron tomar vino a los nazireos, y a los profetas les prohibieron predicar.

12. "But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink and commanded the prophets not to prophesy.

13. Pues bien, por todo lo que han hecho, yo los voy a aplastar contra el suelo, como aplasta la tierra la pala que muele la paja.

13. Behold, I will crush you to the ground, as a cart does when it is full of sheaves.

14. No se podrá escapar el hombre rápido, ni demostrar su fuerza el forzudo, ni salvar su vida el valiente.

14. The swift shall be unable to flee and the strong man shall lose his strength. The warrior shall not save himself nor the bowman stand his ground.

15. El que dispara el arco no lo podrá estirar, el rápido corredor no logrará huir, el caballero no saldrá con vida,

15. The swift of foot shall not escape nor the horseman save himself.

16. y el primero entre los valientes huirá desnudo aquel día. Así lo asegura el Señor.

16. Even the most stout-hearted among the warriors shall flee away naked on that day," says Yahweh.
