Amós, 6

1. ¡Ay de ustedes, los primeros de la primera de las naciones, a quienes acude todo el mundo en Israel! Ustedes descansan en su orgullo y se sienten seguros en el cerro de Samaria,

1. Woe to those proud people who live, overconfident on the hill of Samaria! Woe to you, men of renown, from the first among the nations, to whom the people of Israel come!

2. pero pasen a la ciudad de Calne y vean. Vayan de allí a Jamat la grande y bajen después a Gat de los filisteos. ¿Valen ustedes más que esos reinos, o es su territorio más grande que lo era el de ellos?

2. Pass through Kalneh and see; from there go to Hamath the great, then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are you better than these kingdoms were? Is your territory greater than theirs?

3. Ustedes piensan alejar el día de su desgracia, pero, en realidad, apresuran la venida del opresor.

7. Therefore you will be the first to go into exile; and the feast of sprawlers will be over.

8. Juro por mí mismo, dice el Señor Yavé, el Dios de los Ejércitos: Yo aborrezco el lujo insolente de Jacob y detesto sus palacios; por eso entregaré en manos del enemigo la ciudad con todos sus habitantes.

8. Yahweh has sworn by his life, "I hate the proud city of Jacob, I hate its palaces. I will hand over the city and all that fills it."

9. Y si solamente queda una casa, con diez hombres adentro, también ellos morirán.

9. In those days, if ten people are left in one house, they shall die.

10. y cuando se presenten los deudos para sacar sus huesos, si a uno, que está al fondo le preguntan: Oye, ¿queda alguien por allá?,

10. Their kinsman will lift the corpses and bring the bones from the house; when he will say to his comrade at the back part of the house, "Are there any more?" the other will say, "No, but hush! We must not mention the name of Yahweh."

11. éste dirá: No hay nada; y el que le preguntó le dirá: Cállate, pues no queda nadie para invocar el Nombre del Señor.

11. For this is Yahweh's command, "The great house shall crumble, and the small house fall to pieces."

12. Pues ahora Yavé es el que manda: él reducirá a escombros la gran mansión y a un montón de ruinas, la pequeña.

12. Do horses run on craggy cliffs? Does anyone plow the sea with oxen? Well, you have turned the rights into a poisonous plant and the sentences of the court into wormwood.

13. ¿Galopan por las rocas los caballos o se ara el mar con bueyes, para que ustedes cambien en veneno el derecho o en ajenjo las sentencias del tribunal?

13. You rejoice about unimportant matters when you say, "Are we not winners once more?"

14. Y luego se sienten orgullosos por cosas de nada y andan diciendo: Ahora somos fuertes, nos hemos hecho imbatibles.

14. Yet am I stirring up against you, Israel, a nation that will oppress you from the pass of Hamath to the brook of the Arabah.
