Amós, 3

1. Escuchen, israelitas, esta palabra de Yavé que se refiere a ustedes y a todos los suyos, a quienes hizo salir de Egipto:

1. Hear this word which Yahweh speaks against you, people of Israel, against the whole family which he brought up from the land of Egypt.

2. No me di a conocer más que a ustedes entre todas las naciones de la tierra, y por esta razón los castigaré de un modo especial por todas sus maldades.

2. "Only you have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will call you to account for all your wrongdoings."

3. ¿Emprenden, acaso, dos hombres juntos el camino sin haberse puesto antes de acuerdo?

3. Do two walk together unless they have agreed?

4. ¿No ruge el león en la selva porque ha cazado una presa?¿No resuena en su guarida el rugido del cachorro porque tiene algo que comer?

4. Does a lion roar in the forest when it has no prey? Does a young lion growl in its den unless it has seized something?

5. ¿No cae un pajarito en la trampa porque alguien la ha armado antes?

5. Does a bird get caught in a snare if the snare has not been baited? Does a tiger spring up from the ground unless it has caught something?

6. ¿Se levanta del suelo una trampa antes de que haya caído algo? ¿Resuena la trompeta en una ciudad sin que se alarme toda la población? ¿Sucede alguna desgracia en un pueblo sin que venga del Señor?

6. If a trumpet sounds in a city, will the people not be frightened? If disaster strikes a city, has not Yahweh caused it?

7. En realidad, el Señor Yavé no hace nada sin comunicárselo antes a sus servidores, los profetas.

7. Yet Yahweh does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants, the prophets.

8. Así como nadie queda impertérrito al oír el rugido del león, así tampoco se negará nadie a profetizar cuando escucha lo que le habla el Señor.

8. If the lion roars, who will not be afraid? If Yahweh speaks, who will not prophesy?

9. Llamen a los que viven en los palacios asirios o en los palacios egipcios y díganles: Júntense en las montañas de Samaria, para que vean los desórdenes que hay en esa ciudad o los crímenes que en ella se cometen.

9. Call on the people living in the palaces of Ashur and in the palaces of Egypt, "Come together against the hill of Samaria and see the many scandals and the oppression that is there."

10. Ya no saben actuar con honradez, dice Yavé, pues amontonan la rapiña y el fruto de sus asaltos en sus palacios.

10. "These people do not know how to do what is right, says Yahweh, storing in strongholds what they have taken through violence and extortion.

11. Por eso, lo afirma Yavé, el enemigo invadirá tu territorio, tu poder se irá al suelo y tus palacios serán saqueados.

11. Therefore this is the word of Yahweh, "The enemy shall surround the land; your strength shall be broken down and your strongholds plundered."

12. Y agrega todavía Yavé: Como las dos patas o la punta de una oreja que el pastor salva de la boca del león, así será el resto de los hijos de Israel que en Samaria se sientan en la espuma de un sofá, sobre cojines de Damasco.

12. Yahweh says this, "As the shepherd rescues from the mouth of the lion a pair of legs or the tip of an ear, so shall some of you be saved, O Israelites of Samaria who loll on comfortable couches and rest on pillows of Damascus."

13. Oigan y transmitan a la casa de Jacob esta palabra de Yavé.

13. "Hear and accuse the nation of Jacob," says Yahweh, God of hosts,

14. Cuando yo llegue a tomar cuentas de sus crímenes a Israel, ese día yo iré derecho a los altares de Betel: quebraré los cuernos del altar y los tiraré al suelo.

14. "On the day that I call Israel to account for his crimes, I will punish as well the altars of Bethel. The horns of the altar will be broken off and fall to the ground.

15. Daré combos a las mansiones para el invierno o para el verano; terminaré con los palacios de marfil y serán demolidas las casas de piedras.

15. Then I will strike the winter house and the summer house. The palaces of ivory shall be ruined, and the great house destroyed."
