Amós, 7

1. Esto fue lo que me mostró el Señor Yavé: Cuando estaba brotando de nuevo el pasto, después del corte para el rey, él estaba fabricando langostas.

1. This is what Yahweh showed me. He was forming a swarm of locusts just as the late sowing began to come up. It was the second growth which follows the king's mowing.

2. Al ver cómo pelaban los campos, intervine y dije: «Por favor, Señor Yavé, perdona. Pues, ¿qué será de Jacob, que es tan pequeño?»

2. When they were about to finish devouring all the crops of the land, I said, "Yahweh, forgive! How shall Jacob survive, small as he is?"

3. Yavé se arrepintió y me dijo: «Esto no va a pasar.»

3. Yahweh repented and said, "It shall not happen."

4. En seguida, el Señor me mostró otra cosa: El Señor llamaba al fuego para que secara los manantiales y marchitara los campos.

4. This is what Yahweh showed me: he was calling for burning heat. It consumed the great deep and was consuming the land.

5. Entonces exclamé: «Por favor, detente, Señor Yavé. Pues, ¿cómo se salvará Jacob, que es tan pequeño?»

5. I said, "Yahweh, stop! How shall Jacob survive small as he is?"

6. Yavé se arrepintió, manifestando que no pasaría nada.

6. Yahweh relented and said, "This too shall not happen."

7. Por tercera vez, el Señor me mostró otro espectáculo: Un hombre estaba de pie al lado de un muro con un nivel de plomo en la mano.

7. This is what Yahweh showed me. He was standing beside a wall with a plumb line in his hand.

8. Y como Yavé me preguntara qué veía yo, le respondí que un nivel de plomo. Entonces el Señor prosiguió: «Voy a ver si está desplomado o no Israel, pues ya no lo apuntalaré más;

8. The Lord asked me, "Amos, what do you see?" And I answered, "A plumb line." Then the Lord said, "Behold, I am measuring my people Israel with a plumb line. I will forgive them no more.

9. los altos lugares sagrados de Isaac serán demolidos; los santuarios de Israel, destruidos, y yo me lanzaré, espada en mano, contra la familia de Jeroboam.»

9. The high places of Isaac are to be made desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel laid waste. For I will arise, sword in hand, against the family of Jeroboam."

10. Entonces Amasías, sacerdote de Betel, le mandó este recado a Jeroboam, rey de Israel: «Amós está conspirando contra ti en pleno centro de Israel. No hay que permitirle que siga hablando,

10. Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, then sent word to King Jeroboam of Israel, "Amos is conspiring against you in the very center of Israel; what he says goes too far.

11. pues dice que a ti te matarán a espada y que Israel será llevado al destierro, lejos de su patria.»

11. These are his very words: Jeroboam shall die by the sword and Israel shall be exiled from its land."

12. Luego Amasías fue a decirle a Amós: «Sal de aquí, visionario; vete a Judá, gánate allá la vida dándotelas de profeta,

12. Amaziah then said to Amos, "Off with you, seer, go back to the land of Judah. Earn your bread there by prophesying.

13. pero no profetices más aquí en Betel, que es un santuario real, un templo nacional.»

13. But never again prophesy at Bethel for it is a king's sanctuary and a national shrine."

14. Amós le replicó: «Yo no soy profeta ni uno de los hermanos profetas; soy cuidador de rebaños y trato los sicómoros.

14. Amos replied to Amaziah, "I am not a prophet or one of the fellow-prophets. I am a breeder of sheep and a dresser of sycamore trees.

15. Yavé es quien me sacó de detrás de las ovejas y me dijo: «Ve y habla de parte mía a Israel, mi pueblo».

15. But Yahweh took me from shepherding the flock and said to me: Go, and from me, tell my people Israel.

16. Pues bien, escucha, tú que dices: ¡Basta de profecías contra Israel; deja de insultar a la raza de Isaac!

16. Now hear the word of Yahweh, you who say: No more prophecy against Israel, no more insults against the family of Isaac!

17. Escucha esta palabra de Yavé: «Un día, tu esposa se prostituirá en plena calle, tus hijos e hijas morirán en la guerra. Los vencedores se repartirán tus bienes, tú mismo morirás en tierra extranjera e Israel será llevado lejos de su país.»

17. This is what Yahweh says: Your wife shall be made a harlot in the city, your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword, your land shall be divided up and given to others, and you yourself shall die in a foreign land, for Israel shall be driven far from its land."
