Exodus, 34

1. Yahweh said to Moses, 'Cut two tablets of stone like the first ones and come up to me on the mountain, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.

1. Weiter sprach der Herr zu Mose: Hau dir zwei steinerne Tafeln zurecht wie die ersten! Ich werde darauf die Worte schreiben, die auf den ersten Tafeln standen, die du zerschmettert hast.

2. Be ready at dawn; at dawn come up Mount Sinai and wait for me there at the top of the mountain.

2. Halte dich für morgen früh bereit! Steig am Morgen auf den Sinai und dort auf dem Gipfel des Berges stell dich vor mich hin!

3. No one may come up with you, no one may be seen anywhere on the mountain; the flocks and herds may not even graze in front of this mountain.'

3. Niemand soll mit dir hinaufsteigen; auch soll sich kein Mensch auf dem ganzen Berg sehen lassen und kein Schaf oder Rind soll am Abhang des Berges weiden.

4. So he cut two tablets of stone like the first and, with the two tablets of stone in his hands, Moses went up Mount Sinai in the early morning as Yahweh had ordered.

4. Da hieb Mose zwei Tafeln aus Stein zurecht wie die ersten. Am Morgen stand Mose zeitig auf und ging auf den Sinai hinauf, wie es ihm der Herr aufgetragen hatte. Die beiden steinernen Tafeln nahm er mit.

5. And Yahweh descended in a cloud and stood with him there and pronounced the name Yahweh.

5. Der Herr aber stieg in der Wolke herab und stellte sich dort neben ihn hin. Er rief den Namen Jahwe aus.

6. Then Yahweh passed before him and called out, 'Yahweh, Yahweh, God of tenderness and compassion, slow to anger, rich in faithful love and constancy,

6. Der Herr ging an ihm vorüber und rief: Jahwe ist ein barmherziger und gnädiger Gott, langmütig, reich an Huld und Treue:

7. maintaining his faithful love to thousands, forgiving fault, crime and sin, yet letting nothing go unchecked, and punishing the parent's fault in the children and in the grandchildren to the third and fourth generation!'

7. Er bewahrt Tausenden Huld, nimmt Schuld, Frevel und Sünde weg, lässt aber (den Sünder) nicht ungestraft; er verfolgt die Schuld der Väter an den Söhnen und Enkeln, an der dritten und vierten Generation.

8. Moses immediately bowed to the ground in worship,

8. Sofort verneigte sich Mose bis zur Erde und warf sich zu Boden.

9. then he said, 'If indeed I do enjoy your favour, please, my Lord, come with us, although they are an obstinate people; and forgive our faults and sins, and adopt us as your heritage.'

9. Er sagte: Wenn ich deine Gnade gefunden habe, mein Herr, dann ziehe doch mein Herr mit uns. Es ist zwar ein störrisches Volk, doch vergib uns unsere Schuld und Sünde und lass uns dein Eigentum sein!

10. He then said, 'Look, I am now making a covenant: I shall work such wonders at the head of your whole people as have never been worked in any other country or nation, and all the people round you will see what Yahweh can do, for what I shall do through you will be awe-inspiring.

10. Da sprach der Herr: Hiermit schließe ich einen Bund: Vor deinem ganzen Volk werde ich Wunder wirken, wie sie auf der ganzen Erde und unter allen Völkern nie geschehen sind. Das ganze Volk, in dessen Mitte du bist, wird die Taten des Herrn sehen; denn was ich mit dir vorhabe, wird Furcht erregen.

11. Mark, then, what I command you today. I am going to drive out the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites before you.

11. Halte dich an das, was ich dir heute auftrage. Ich werde die Amoriter, Kanaaniter, Hetiter, Perisiter, Hiwiter und Jebusiter vor dir vertreiben.

12. Take care you make no pact with the inhabitants of the country which you are about to enter, or they will prove a snare in your community.

12. Du hüte dich aber, mit den Bewohnern des Landes, in das du kommst, einen Bund zu schließen; sie könnten dir sonst, wenn sie in deiner Mitte leben, zu einer Falle werden.

13. You will tear down their altars, smash their cultic stones and cut down their sacred poles,

13. Ihre Altäre sollt ihr vielmehr niederreißen, ihre Steinmale zerschlagen, ihre Kultpfähle umhauen.

14. for you will worship no other god, since Yahweh's name is the Jealous One; he is a jealous God.

14. Du darfst dich nicht vor einem andern Gott niederwerfen. Denn Jahwe trägt den Namen «der Eifersüchtige»; ein eifersüchtiger Gott ist er.

15. Make no pact with the inhabitants of the country or, when they prostitute themselves to their own gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will partake of their sacrifice,

15. Hüte dich, einen Bund mit den Bewohnern des Landes zu schließen. Sonst werden sie dich einladen, wenn sie mit ihren Göttern Unzucht treiben und ihren Göttern Schlachtopfer darbringen, und du wirst von ihren Schlachtopfern essen.

16. and then you will choose wives for your sons from among their daughters, and their daughters, prostituting themselves to their own gods, will induce your sons to prostitute themselves to their gods.

16. Du wirst von ihren Töchtern für deine Söhne Frauen nehmen; sie werden mit ihren Göttern Unzucht treiben und auch deine Söhne zur Unzucht mit ihren Göttern verführen.

17. 'You will not cast metal gods for yourself.

17. Du sollst dir keine Götter aus Metall gießen.

18. 'You will observe the feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days you will eat unleavened bread, as I have commanded you, at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in the month of Abib you came out of Egypt.

18. Du sollst das Fest der ungesäuerten Brote halten. Im Monat Abib sollst du zur festgesetzten Zeit sieben Tage lang ungesäuertes Brot essen, wie ich es dir geboten habe. Denn im Monat Abib bist du aus Ägypten ausgezogen.

19. 'All that first issues from the womb belongs to me: every male, every first-born of flock or herd.

19. Das Erste, was den Mutterschoß durchbricht, jeder männliche Erstling beim Vieh, bei deinen Rindern und Schafen, gehört mir.

20. But the first-born donkey you will redeem with an animal from the flock; if you do not redeem it, you must break its neck. All the first-born of your sons you will redeem, and no one will appear before me empty-handed.

20. Den Erstling vom Esel aber sollst du durch ein Schaf auslösen. Willst du ihn nicht auslösen, dann brich ihm das Genick! Jeden Erstgeborenen deiner Söhne musst du auslösen. Man soll vor mir nicht mit leeren Händen erscheinen.

21. 'For six days you will labour, but on the seventh day you will rest; you will stop work even during ploughing and harvesting.

21. Sechs Tage sollst du arbeiten, am siebten Tag sollst du ruhen; selbst zur Zeit des Pflügens und des Erntens sollst du ruhen.

22. 'You will observe the feast of Weeks, of the first-fruits of the wheat harvest, and the feast of Ingathering at the close of the year.

22. Du sollst das Wochenfest feiern, das Fest der Erstlingsfrüchte von der Weizenernte und das Fest der Lese an der Jahreswende.

23. 'Three times a year all your menfolk will appear before Lord Yahweh, God of Israel,

23. Dreimal im Jahr sollen alle deine Männer vor dem Herrn, dem Gott Israels, erscheinen.

24. for I shall dispossess the nations before you and extend your frontiers, and no one will set his heart on your territory when you go away to appear before Yahweh your God three times a year.

24. Wenn ich die Völker vor dir vertrieben und deine Grenzen weiter vorgeschoben habe, wird niemand in dein Land einfallen, während du dreimal im Jahr hinaufziehst, um vor dem Herrn, deinem Gott, zu erscheinen.

25. 'You will not offer the blood of my sacrificial victim with leavened bread, nor is the victim offered at the feast of Passover to be left until the following day.

25. Beim Schlachten sollst du das Blut meines Opfers nicht über gesäuertes Brot fließen lassen und vom Schlachttier des Paschafestes darf nichts bis zum Morgen liegen bleiben.

26. 'You will bring the best of the first-fruits of your soil to the house of Yahweh your God. 'You will not boil a kid in its mother's milk.'

26. Von den Erstlingsfrüchten deines Ackers sollst du die besten in das Haus des Herrn, deines Gottes, bringen. Das Junge einer Ziege sollst du nicht in der Milch seiner Mutter kochen.

27. Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Put these words in writing, for they are the terms of the covenant which I have made with you and with Israel.'

27. Dann sprach der Herr zu Mose: Schreib diese Worte auf! Denn aufgrund dieser Worte schließe ich mit dir und mit Israel einen Bund.

28. He stayed there with Yahweh for forty days and forty nights, eating and drinking nothing, and on the tablets he wrote the words of the covenant -- the Ten Words.

28. Mose blieb dort beim Herrn vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte. Er aß kein Brot und trank kein Wasser. Er schrieb die Worte des Bundes, die zehn Worte, auf Tafeln.

29. When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands, as he was coming down the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face was radiant because he had been talking to him.

29. Als Mose vom Sinai herunterstieg, hatte er die beiden Tafeln der Bundesurkunde in der Hand. Während Mose vom Berg herunterstieg, wusste er nicht, dass die Haut seines Gesichtes Licht ausstrahlte, weil er mit dem Herrn geredet hatte.

30. And when Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin on his face was so radiant that they were afraid to go near him.

30. Als Aaron und alle Israeliten Mose sahen, strahlte die Haut seines Gesichtes Licht aus und sie fürchteten sich, in seine Nähe zu kommen.

31. But Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the community rejoined him, and Moses talked to them,

31. Erst als Mose sie rief, kamen Aaron und alle Sippenhäupter der Gemeinde zu ihm zurück und Mose redete mit ihnen.

32. after which all the Israelites came closer, and he passed on to them all the orders that Yahweh had given to him on Mount Sinai.

32. Dann kamen alle Israeliten herbei und er übergab ihnen alle Gebote, die der Herr ihm auf dem Sinai mitgeteilt hatte.

33. Once Moses had finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face.

33. Als Mose aufhörte, mit ihnen zu reden, legte er über sein Gesicht einen Schleier.

34. Whenever Moses went into Yahweh's presence to speak with him, he took the veil off until he came out. And when he came out, he would tell the Israelites what orders he had been given,

34. Wenn Mose zum Herrn hineinging, um mit ihm zu reden, nahm er den Schleier ab, bis er wieder herauskam. Wenn er herauskam, trug er den Israeliten alles vor, was ihm aufgetragen worden war.

35. and the Israelites would see Moses' face radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak to him next time.

35. Wenn die Israeliten das Gesicht des Mose sahen und merkten, dass die Haut seines Gesichtes Licht ausstrahlte, legte er den Schleier über sein Gesicht, bis er wieder hineinging, um mit dem Herrn zu reden.
