Exodus, 12

1. Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt,

1. Der Herr sprach zu Mose und Aaron in Ägypten:

2. 'This month must be the first of all the months for you, the first month of your year.

2. Dieser Monat soll die Reihe eurer Monate eröffnen, er soll euch als der erste unter den Monaten des Jahres gelten.

3. Speak to the whole community of Israel and say, "On the tenth day of this month each man must take an animal from the flock for his family: one animal for each household.

3. Sagt der ganzen Gemeinde Israel: Am Zehnten dieses Monats soll jeder ein Lamm für seine Familie holen, ein Lamm für jedes Haus.

4. If the household is too small for the animal, he must join with his neighbour nearest to his house, depending on the number of persons. When you choose the animal, you will take into account what each can eat.

4. Ist die Hausgemeinschaft für ein Lamm zu klein, so nehme er es zusammen mit dem Nachbarn, der seinem Haus am nächsten wohnt, nach der Anzahl der Personen. Bei der Aufteilung des Lammes müsst ihr berücksichtigen, wie viel der Einzelne essen kann.

5. It must be an animal without blemish, a male one year old; you may choose it either from the sheep or from the goats.

5. Nur ein fehlerfreies, männliches, einjähriges Lamm darf es sein, das Junge eines Schafes oder einer Ziege müsst ihr nehmen.

6. You must keep it till the fourteenth day of the month when the whole assembly of the community of Israel will slaughter it at twilight.

6. Ihr sollt es bis zum vierzehnten Tag dieses Monats aufbewahren. Gegen Abend soll die ganze versammelte Gemeinde Israel die Lämmer schlachten.

7. Some of the blood must then be taken and put on both door-posts and the lintel of the houses where it is eaten.

7. Man nehme etwas von dem Blut und bestreiche damit die beiden Türpfosten und den Türsturz an den Häusern, in denen man das Lamm essen will.

8. That night, the flesh must be eaten, roasted over the fire; it must be eaten with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

8. Noch in der gleichen Nacht soll man das Fleisch essen. Über dem Feuer gebraten und zusammen mit ungesäuertem Brot und Bitterkräutern soll man es essen.

9. Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted over the fire, with the head, feet and entrails.

9. Nichts davon dürft ihr roh oder in Wasser gekocht essen, sondern es muss über dem Feuer gebraten sein. Kopf und Beine dürfen noch nicht vom Rumpf getrennt sein.

10. You must not leave any of it over till the morning: whatever is left till morning you must burn.

10. Ihr dürft nichts bis zum Morgen übrig lassen. Wenn aber am Morgen noch etwas übrig ist, dann verbrennt es im Feuer!

11. This is how you must eat it: with a belt round your waist, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. You must eat it hurriedly: it is a Passover in Yahweh's honour.

11. So aber sollt ihr es essen: eure Hüften gegürtet, Schuhe an den Füßen, den Stab in der Hand. Esst es hastig! Es ist die Paschafeier für den Herrn.

12. That night, I shall go through Egypt and strike down all the first-born in Egypt, man and beast alike, and shall execute justice on all the gods of Egypt, I, Yahweh!

12. In dieser Nacht gehe ich durch Ägypten und erschlage in Ägypten jeden Erstgeborenen bei Mensch und Vieh. Über alle Götter Ägyptens halte ich Gericht, ich, der Herr.

13. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are. When I see the blood I shall pass over you, and you will escape the destructive plague when I strike Egypt.

13. Das Blut an den Häusern, in denen ihr wohnt, soll ein Zeichen zu eurem Schutz sein. Wenn ich das Blut sehe, werde ich an euch vorübergehen und das vernichtende Unheil wird euch nicht treffen, wenn ich in Ägypten dreinschlage.

14. This day must be commemorated by you, and you must keep it as a feast in Yahweh's honour. You must keep it as a feast-day for all generations; this is a decree for all time.

14. Diesen Tag sollt ihr als Gedenktag begehen. Feiert ihn als Fest zur Ehre des Herrn! Für die kommenden Generationen macht euch diese Feier zur festen Regel!

15. "For seven days you must eat unleavened bread. On the first day you must clean the leaven out of your houses, for anyone who eats leavened bread from the first to the seventh day must be outlawed from Israel.

15. Sieben Tage lang sollt ihr ungesäuertes Brot essen. Gleich am ersten Tag schafft den Sauerteig aus euren Häusern! Denn jeder, der zwischen dem ersten und dem siebten Tag Gesäuertes isst, soll aus Israel ausgemerzt werden.

16. On the first day you must hold a sacred assembly, and on the seventh day a sacred assembly. On those days no work may be done; you will prepare only what each requires to eat.

16. Am ersten Tag sollt ihr eine heilige Versammlung einberufen und ebenso eine heilige Versammlung am siebten Tag. An diesen beiden Tagen darf man keinerlei Arbeit tun. Nur das, was jeder zum Essen braucht, dürft ihr zubereiten.

17. You must keep the feast of Unleavened Bread because it was on that same day that I brought your armies out of Egypt. You will keep that day, generation after generation; this is a decree for all time.

17. Begeht das Fest der ungesäuerten Brote! Denn gerade an diesem Tag habe ich eure Scharen aus Ägypten herausgeführt. Begeht diesen Tag in allen kommenden Generationen; das sei für euch eine feste Regel.

18. In the first month, from the evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first day, you must eat unleavened bread.

18. Im ersten Monat, vom Abend des vierzehnten Tags bis zum Abend des einundzwanzigsten Tags, esst ungesäuerte Brote!

19. For seven days there may be no leaven in your houses, since anyone, either stranger or citizen of the country, who eats leavened bread will be outlawed from the community of Israel.

19. Sieben Tage lang darf sich in euren Häusern kein Sauerteig befinden; denn jeder, der Gesäuertes isst, sei er fremd oder einheimisch, soll aus der Gemeinde Israel ausgemerzt werden.

20. You will eat nothing with leaven in it; wherever you live, you will eat unleavened bread." '

20. Esst also nichts Gesäuertes! Überall, wo ihr wohnt, sollt ihr ungesäuerte Brote essen.

21. Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, 'Go and choose a lamb or kid for your families, and kill the Passover victim.

21. Da rief Mose alle Ältesten Israels zusammen und sagte zu ihnen: Holt Schafe oder Ziegen für eure Sippenverbände herbei und schlachtet das Paschalamm!

22. Then take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and with the blood from the basin touch the lintel and both door-posts; then let none of you venture out of the house till morning.

22. Dann nehmt einen Ysopzweig, taucht ihn in die Schüssel mit Blut und streicht etwas von dem Blut in der Schüssel auf den Türsturz und auf die beiden Türpfosten! Bis zum Morgen darf niemand von euch das Haus verlassen.

23. Then, when Yahweh goes through Egypt to strike it, and sees the blood on the lintel and on both door-posts, he will pass over the door and not allow the Destroyer to enter your homes and strike.

23. Der Herr geht umher, um die Ägypter mit Unheil zu schlagen. Wenn er das Blut am Türsturz und an den beiden Türpfosten sieht, wird er an der Tür vorübergehen und dem Vernichter nicht erlauben, in eure Häuser einzudringen und euch zu schlagen.

24. You will observe this as a decree binding you and your children for all time,

24. Haltet euch an diese Anordnung! Sie gelte dir und deinen Nachkommen als feste Regel.

25. and when you have entered the country which Yahweh will give you, as he has promised, you will observe this ritual.

25. Wenn ihr in das Land kommt, das euch der Herr gibt, wie er gesagt hat, so begeht diese Feier!

26. And when your children ask you, "What does this ritual mean?"

26. Und wenn euch eure Söhne fragen: Was bedeutet diese Feier?,

27. you will tell them, "It is the Passover sacrifice in honour of Yahweh who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt, and struck Egypt but spared our houses." ' And the people bowed in worship.

27. dann sagt: Es ist das Pascha-Opfer zur Ehre des Herrn, der in Ägypten an den Häusern der Israeliten vorüberging, als er die Ägypter mit Unheil schlug, unsere Häuser aber verschonte. Das Volk verneigte sich und warf sich nieder.

28. The Israelites then went away and did as Yahweh had ordered Moses and Aaron.

28. Dann gingen die Israeliten und taten, was der Herr Mose und Aaron befohlen hatte. So machten sie es.

29. And at midnight Yahweh struck down all the first-born in Egypt from the first-born of Pharaoh, heir to his throne, to the first-born of the prisoner in the dungeon, and the first-born of all the livestock.

29. Es war Mitternacht, als der Herr alle Erstgeborenen in Ägypten erschlug, vom Erstgeborenen des Pharao, der auf dem Thron saß, bis zum Erstgeborenen des Gefangenen im Kerker, und jede Erstgeburt beim Vieh.

30. Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up in the night, and there was great wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house without its dead.

30. Da standen der Pharao, alle seine Diener und alle Ägypter noch in der Nacht auf und großes Wehgeschrei erhob sich bei den Ägyptern; denn es gab kein Haus, in dem nicht ein Toter war.

31. It was still dark when Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, 'Up, leave my subjects, you and the Israelites! Go and worship Yahweh as you have asked!

31. Der Pharao ließ Mose und Aaron noch in der Nacht rufen und sagte: Auf, verlasst mein Volk, ihr beide und die Israeliten! Geht und verehrt Jahwe, wie ihr gesagt habt.

32. And take your flocks and herds as you have asked, and go! And bless me too!'

32. Auch eure Schafe, Ziegen und Rinder nehmt mit, wie ihr gesagt habt. Geht und betet auch für mich!

33. The Egyptians urged the people on and hurried them out of the country because, they said, 'Otherwise we shall all be dead.'

33. Die Ägypter drängten das Volk, eiligst das Land zu verlassen, denn sie sagten: Sonst kommen wir noch alle um.

34. So the people carried off their dough still unleavened, their bowls wrapped in their cloaks, on their shoulders.

34. Das Volk nahm den Brotteig ungesäuert mit; sie wickelten ihre Backschüsseln in Kleider ein und luden sie sich auf die Schultern.

35. The Israelites did as Moses had told them and asked the Egyptians for silver and golden jewellery, and clothing.

35. Die Israeliten taten, was Mose gesagt hatte. Sie erbaten von den Ägyptern Geräte aus Silber und Gold und auch Gewänder.

36. Yahweh made the Egyptians so much impressed with the people that they gave them what they asked. So they despoiled the Egyptians.

36. Der Herr ließ das Volk bei den Ägyptern Gunst finden, sodass sie auf ihre Bitte eingingen. Auf diese Weise plünderten sie die Ägypter aus.

37. The Israelites left Rameses for Succoth, about six hundred thousand on the march-men, that is, not counting their families.

37. Die Israeliten brachen von Ramses nach Sukkot auf. Es waren an die sechshunderttausend Mann zu Fuß, nicht gerechnet die Kinder.

38. A mixed crowd of people went with them, and flocks and herds, quantities of livestock.

38. Auch ein großer Haufen anderer Leute zog mit, dazu Schafe, Ziegen und Rinder, eine sehr große Menge Vieh.

39. And with the dough which they had brought from Egypt they baked unleavened cakes, because the dough had not risen, since they had been driven out of Egypt without time to linger or to prepare food for themselves.

39. Aus dem Teig, den sie aus Ägypten mitgebracht hatten, backten sie ungesäuerte Brotfladen; denn der Teig war nicht durchsäuert, weil sie aus Ägypten verjagt worden waren und nicht einmal Zeit hatten, für Reiseverpflegung zu sorgen.

40. The time that the Israelites spent in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.

40. Der Aufenthalt der Israeliten in Ägypten dauerte vierhundertdreißig Jahre.

41. And on the very day the four hundred and thirty years ended, all Yahweh's armies left Egypt.

41. Nach Ablauf der vierhundertdreißig Jahre, genau an jenem Tag, zogen alle Scharen des Herrn aus Ägypten fort.

42. The night when Yahweh kept vigil to bring them out of Egypt must be kept as a vigil in honour of Yahweh by all Israelites, for all generations.

42. Eine Nacht des Wachens war es für den Herrn, als er sie aus Ägypten herausführte. Als eine Nacht des Wachens zur Ehre des Herrn gilt sie den Israeliten in allen Generationen.

43. Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, 'This is the ritual for the Passover: no alien may eat it,

43. Der Herr sprach zu Mose und Aaron: Folgende Regel gilt für das Pascha: Kein Fremder darf davon essen;

44. but any slave bought for money may eat it, once you have circumcised him.

44. aber jeder Sklave, den du für Geld gekauft hast, darf davon essen, sobald du ihn beschnitten hast.

45. No stranger and no hired servant may eat it.

45. Halbbürger und Lohnarbeiter dürfen nicht davon essen.

46. It must be eaten in one house alone; you will not take any of the meat out of the house; nor may you break any of its bones.

46. In einem Haus muss man es essen. Trag nichts vom Fleisch aus dem Haus! Und ihr sollt keinen Knochen des Paschalammes zerbrechen.

47. 'The whole community of Israel must keep it.

47. Die ganze Gemeinde Israel soll es so halten.

48. Should a stranger residing with you wish to keep the Passover in honour of Yahweh, all the males of his household must be circumcised: he will then be allowed to keep it and will count as a citizen of the country. But no uncircumcised person may eat it.

48. Lebt bei dir jemand als Fremder, der das Pascha zur Ehre des Herrn feiern will, so muss er alle männlichen Angehörigen beschneiden lassen; dann darf er sich am Pascha beteiligen. Er gilt dann wie ein Einheimischer. Doch kein Unbeschnittener darf davon essen.

49. The same law will apply to the citizen and the stranger resident among you.'

49. Für Einheimische und für Fremde, die dauernd bei euch leben, gilt das gleiche Gesetz.

50. The Israelites all did as Yahweh had ordered Moses and Aaron,

50. Alle Israeliten taten, was der Herr Mose und Aaron aufgetragen hatte. So machten sie es.

51. and that same day Yahweh brought the Israelites out of Egypt in their armies.

51. Genau an jenem Tag führte der Herr die Israeliten aus Ägypten heraus, an der Spitze ihrer Scharen.
