Exodus, 15

1. It was then that Moses and the Israelites sang this song in Yahweh's honour: I shall sing to Yahweh, for he has covered himself in glory, horse and rider he has thrown into the sea.

1. Damals sang Mose mit den Israeliten dem Herrn dieses Lied; sie sagten: Ich singe dem Herrn ein Lied, / denn er ist hoch und erhaben. / Rosse und Wagen warf er ins Meer.

2. Yah is my strength and my song, to him I owe my deliverance. He is my God and I shall praise him, my father's God and I shall extol him.

2. Meine Stärke und mein Lied ist der Herr, / er ist für mich zum Retter geworden. / Er ist mein Gott, ihn will ich preisen; / den Gott meines Vaters will ich rühmen.

3. Yahweh is a warrior; Yahweh is his name.

3. Der Herr ist ein Krieger, / Jahwe ist sein Name.

4. Pharaoh's chariots and army he has hurled into the sea the pick of his officers have been drowned in the Sea of Reeds.

4. Pharaos Wagen und seine Streitmacht / warf er ins Meer. / Seine besten Kämpfer versanken im Schilfmeer.

5. The ocean has closed over them; they have sunk to the bottom like a stone.

5. Fluten deckten sie zu, / sie sanken in die Tiefe wie Steine.

6. Your right hand, Yahweh, wins glory by its strength, your right hand, Yahweh, shatters your foes,

6. Deine Rechte, Herr, ist herrlich an Stärke; / deine Rechte, Herr, zerschmettert den Feind.

7. and by your great majesty you fell your assailants; you unleash your fury, it consumes them like chaff.

7. In deiner erhabenen Größe / wirfst du die Gegner zu Boden. / Du sendest deinen Zorn; / er frisst sie wie Stoppeln.

8. A blast from your nostrils and the waters piled high; the waves stood firm as a dyke; the bed of the sea became firm ground.

8. Du schnaubtest vor Zorn, / da türmte sich Wasser, / da standen Wogen als Wall, / Fluten erstarrten im Herzen des Meeres.

9. The enemy said, 'I shall give chase and overtake, 'I shall share out the spoil and glut myself on them, 'I shall draw my sword, my hand will destroy them.'

9. Da sagte der Feind: Ich jage nach, hole ein. / Ich teile die Beute, ich stille die Gier. / Ich zücke mein Schwert, meine Hand jagt sie davon.

10. You blew with your breath, the sea closed over them; they sank like lead in the terrible waters.

10. Da schnaubtest du Sturm. Das Meer deckte sie zu. / Sie sanken wie Blei ins tosende Wasser.

11. Yahweh, who is like you, majestic in sanctity, who like you among the holy ones, fearsome of deed, worker of wonders?

11. Wer ist wie du unter den Göttern, o Herr? / Wer ist wie du gewaltig und heilig, / gepriesen als furchtbar, Wunder vollbringend?

12. You stretched your right hand out, the earth swallowed them!

12. Du strecktest deine Rechte aus, / da verschlang sie die Erde.

13. In your faithful love you led out the people you had redeemed, in your strength you have guided them to your holy dwelling.

13. Du lenktest in deiner Güte / das Volk, das du erlöst hast, / du führtest sie machtvoll / zu deiner heiligen Wohnung.

14. Hearing of this, the peoples tremble; pangs seize on the people of Philistia;

14. Als die Völker das hörten, erzitterten sie, / die Philister packte das Schütteln.

15. the chieftains of Edom are dismayed, Moab's princes -- panic has seized them, all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.

15. Damals erschraken die Häuptlinge Edoms, / die Mächtigen von Moab packte das Zittern, / Kanaans Bewohner, sie alle verzagten.

16. On them fall terror and dread; through the power of your arm they are still as stone while your people are passing, Yahweh, while the people you have purchased are passing.

16. Schrecken und Furcht überfiel sie, / sie erstarrten zu Stein / vor der Macht deines Arms, / bis hindurchzog, o Herr, dein Volk, / bis hindurchzog das Volk, das du erschufst.

17. You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain which is your heritage, the place which you, Yahweh, have made your dwelling, the sanctuary, Yahweh, prepared by your own hands.

17. Du brachtest sie hin / und pflanztest sie ein / auf dem Berg deines Erbes. / Einen Ort, wo du thronst, Herr, / hast du gemacht; / ein Heiligtum, Herr, haben deine Hände gegründet.

18. Yahweh will be king for ever and ever.

18. Der Herr ist König für immer und ewig.

19. For when Pharaoh's cavalry, with his chariots and horsemen, had gone into the sea, Yahweh brought the waters of the sea back over them, though the Israelites went on dry ground right through the sea.

19. Denn als die Rosse des Pharao mit Wagen und Reitern ins Meer zogen, ließ der Herr das Wasser des Meeres auf sie zurückfluten, nachdem die Israeliten auf trockenem Boden mitten durchs Meer gezogen waren.

20. The prophetess Miriam, Aaron's sister, took up a tambourine, and all the women followed her with tambourines, dancing,

20. Die Prophetin Mirjam, die Schwester Aarons, nahm die Pauke in die Hand und alle Frauen zogen mit Paukenschlag und Tanz hinter ihr her.

21. while Miriam took up from them the refrain: Sing to Yahweh, for he has covered himself in glory, horse and rider he has thrown into the sea.

21. Mirjam sang ihnen vor: Singt dem Herrn ein Lied, / denn er ist hoch und erhaben! / Rosse und Wagen warf er ins Meer.

22. Moses led Israel away from the Sea of Reeds, and they entered the desert of Shur. They then travelled through the desert for three days without finding water.

22. Mose ließ Israel vom Schilfmeer aufbrechen und sie zogen zur Wüste Schur weiter. Drei Tage waren sie in der Wüste unterwegs und fanden kein Wasser.

23. When they reached Marah, they could not drink the Marah water because it was bitter; this is why the place was named Marah.

23. Als sie nach Mara kamen, konnten sie das Wasser von Mara nicht trinken, weil es bitter war. Deshalb nannte man es Mara (Bitterbrunn).

24. The people complained to Moses saying, 'What are we to drink?'

24. Da murrte das Volk gegen Mose und sagte: Was sollen wir trinken?

25. Moses appealed to Yahweh for help, and Yahweh showed him a piece of wood. When Moses threw it into the water, the water became sweet. There he laid down a statute and law for them and there he put them to the test. Then he said,

25. Er schrie zum Herrn und der Herr zeigte ihm ein Stück Holz. Als er es ins Wasser warf, wurde das Wasser süß. Dort gab Gott dem Volk Gesetz und Rechtsentscheidungen und dort stellte er es auf die Probe.

26. 'If you listen carefully to the voice of Yahweh your God and do what he regards as right, if you pay attention to his commandments and keep all his laws, I shall never inflict on you any of the diseases that I inflicted on the Egyptians, for I am Yahweh your Healer.'

26. Er sagte: Wenn du auf die Stimme des Herrn, deines Gottes, hörst und tust, was in seinen Augen gut ist, wenn du seinen Geboten gehorchst und auf alle seine Gesetze achtest, werde ich dir keine der Krankheiten schicken, die ich den Ägyptern geschickt habe. Denn ich bin der Herr, dein Arzt.

27. So they came to Elim where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees; and there they pitched camp beside the water.

27. Dann kamen sie nach Elim. Dort gab es zwölf Quellen und siebzig Palmen; dort am Wasser schlugen sie ihr Lager auf.
