Exodus, 7

1. Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Look, I have made you as a god for Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron is to be your prophet.

1. Der Herr sprach zu Mose: Hiermit mache ich dich für den Pharao zum Gott; dein Bruder Aaron soll dein Prophet sein.

2. You must say whatever I command you, and your brother Aaron will repeat to Pharaoh that he is to let the Israelites leave his country.

2. Du sollst alles sagen, was ich dir auftrage; dein Bruder Aaron soll es dem Pharao sagen und der Pharao muss die Israeliten aus seinem Land fortziehen lassen.

3. But I myself shall make Pharaoh stubborn and shall perform many a sign and wonder in Egypt.

3. Ich aber will das Herz des Pharao verhärten und dann werde ich meine Zeichen und Wunder in Ägypten häufen.

4. Since Pharaoh will not listen to you, I shall lay my hand on Egypt and with great acts of judgement lead my armies, my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.

4. Der Pharao wird nicht auf euch hören. Deshalb werde ich meine Hand auf Ägypten legen und unter gewaltigem Strafgericht meine Scharen, mein Volk, die Israeliten, aus Ägypten führen.

5. And the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh when I stretch out my hand against the Egyptians and lead the Israelites out of their country.'

5. Erst wenn ich meine Hand gegen die Ägypter ausstrecke, werden sie erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin, und dann werde ich die Israeliten aus ihrer Mitte herausführen.

6. Moses and Aaron did exactly as Yahweh had ordered.

6. Mose und Aaron taten, was ihnen der Herr aufgetragen hatte. So machten sie es.

7. Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three, when they spoke to Pharaoh.

7. Mose war achtzig Jahre und Aaron dreiundachtzig Jahre alt, als sie mit dem Pharao verhandelten.

8. Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron,

8. Der Herr sprach zu Mose und Aaron:

9. 'If Pharaoh says to you, "Display some marvel," you must say to Aaron, "Take your staff and throw it down in front of Pharaoh, and let it turn into a serpent!" '

9. Wenn der Pharao zu euch sagt: Tut doch ein Wunder zu eurer Beglaubigung!, dann sag zu Aaron: Nimm deinen Stab und wirf ihn vor den Pharao hin! Er wird zu einer Schlange werden.

10. Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did as Yahweh had ordered. Aaron threw down his staff in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it turned into a serpent.

10. Als Mose und Aaron zum Pharao kamen, taten sie, was ihnen der Herr aufgetragen hatte: Aaron warf seinen Stab vor den Pharao und seine Diener hin und er wurde zu einer Schlange.

11. Then Pharaoh in his turn called for the sages and sorcerers, and by their spells the magicians of Egypt did the same.

11. Da rief auch der Pharao Weise und Beschwörungspriester und sie, die Wahrsager der Ägypter, taten mit Hilfe ihrer Zauberkunst das Gleiche:

12. Each threw his staff down and these turned into serpents. But Aaron's staff swallowed up theirs.

12. Jeder warf seinen Stab hin und die Stäbe wurden zu Schlangen. Doch Aarons Stab verschlang die Stäbe der Wahrsager.

13. Pharaoh, however, remained obstinate and, as Yahweh had foretold, refused to listen to Moses and Aaron.

13. Das Herz des Pharao aber blieb hart und er hörte nicht auf sie. So hatte es der Herr vorausgesagt.

14. Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Pharaoh is adamant. He refuses to let the people go.

14. Der Herr sprach zu Mose: Das Herz des Pharao ist ungerührt und er ist nicht bereit, das Volk ziehen zu lassen.

15. Go to Pharaoh tomorrow morning as he makes his way to the water, confront him on the river bank and in your hand take the staff that turned into a snake.

15. Geh morgen früh zum Pharao, wenn er an den Fluss hinuntergeht, und tritt am Nilufer vor ihn hin! Den Stab, der sich in eine Schlange verwandelt hat, nimm mit!

16. Say to him, "Yahweh, God of the Hebrews, sent me to say: Let my people go and worship in the desert. Up till now, you have refused to listen.

16. Sag zum Pharao: Jahwe, der Gott der Hebräer, hat mich zu dir gesandt und lässt dir sagen: Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit sie mich in der Wüste verehren können. Bis jetzt hast du nicht hören wollen.

17. This is what Yahweh says: You will know that I am Yahweh by this: with the staff that is in my hand I shall strike the waters of the River and they will turn to blood.

17. So spricht Jahwe: Daran sollst du erkennen, dass ich Jahwe bin: Mit dem Stab in meiner Hand schlage ich auf das Wasser im Nil und es wird sich in Blut verwandeln.

18. The fish in the river will die, and the River will stink, and the Egyptians will not be able to drink the river water." '

18. Die Fische im Nil werden sterben und der Nil wird stinken, sodass sich die Ägypter davor ekeln, Nilwasser zu trinken.

19. Yahweh said to Moses, 'Say to Aaron, "Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt -- over their rivers and canals, their marshland, and all their reservoirs -- and they will turn to blood. There will be blood throughout the whole of Egypt, even in sticks and stones,"

19. Dann sprach der Herr zu Mose: Sag Aaron: Nimm deinen Stab und streck deine Hand über die Gewässer Ägyptens aus, über ihre Flüsse und Nilarme, über ihre Sümpfe und alle Wasserstellen; sie sollen zu Blut werden. Blut soll es geben in ganz Ägypten, in den Gefäßen aus Holz und Stein.

20. Moses and Aaron did as Yahweh ordered. He raised his staff and struck the waters of the River, with Pharaoh and his officials looking on, and all the water in the River turned to blood.

20. Mose und Aaron taten, was ihnen der Herr aufgetragen hatte. Er erhob den Stab und schlug vor den Augen des Pharao und seiner Höflinge auf das Wasser im Nil. Da verwandelte sich alles Nilwasser in Blut.

21. The fish in the River died, and the River stank; and the Egyptians could no longer drink the River water. Throughout the whole of Egypt there was blood.

21. Die Fische im Nil starben und der Nil stank, sodass die Ägypter kein Nilwasser mehr trinken konnten. Das Blut gab es in ganz Ägypten.

22. But by their spells the magicians of Egypt did the same; Pharaoh remained obstinate and, as Yahweh had foretold, refused to listen to Moses and Aaron.

22. Doch die Wahrsager der Ägypter taten mit Hilfe ihrer Zauberkunst das Gleiche. Das Herz des Pharao blieb hart und er hörte nicht auf sie. So hatte es der Herr vorausgesagt.

23. Pharaoh turned away and went back into his palace, taking no notice even of this.

23. Der Pharao kehrte nach Hause zurück und nahm die Sache nicht ernst.

24. And the Egyptians all dug holes along the river-bank in search of drinking water, since they could not drink the River water.

24. Alle Ägypter gruben in der Umgebung des Nil nach Trinkwasser, denn das Nilwasser konnten sie nicht trinken.

25. After Yahweh struck the River, seven days went by.

25. So vergingen sieben Tage, nachdem der Herr den Nil geschlagen hatte.

26. Then Yahweh said to Moses, 'Go to Pharaoh and say to him, "Yahweh says this: Let my people go and worship me.

26. Dann sprach der Herr zu Mose: Geh zum Pharao und sag ihm: So spricht Jahwe: Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit sie mich verehren können.

27. If you refuse to let them go, I shall strike your whole territory with frogs.

27. Weigerst du dich, sie ziehen zu lassen, so bringe ich eine Froschplage über dein ganzes Land.

28. The River will swarm with frogs; they will make their way into your palace, into your bedroom, onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and subjects, into your ovens, into your kneading bowls.

28. Der Nil wird von Fröschen wimmeln; sie werden heraufkommen und in dein Haus eindringen, in dein Schlafgemach, auf dein Bett werden sie kommen, in die Häuser deiner Diener und deines Volkes, in deine Backöfen und Backschüsseln.

29. The frogs will actually clamber onto you, onto your subjects and onto all your officials." '

29. Über dich, dein Volk und alle deine Diener werden die Frösche kommen.
