Apocalypse, 8

1. Et quand l'Agneau eut ouvert le septième sceau, il se fit dans le ciel un silence d'environ une demi-heure.

1. When he broke open the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

2. Puis je vis les sept anges qui se tiennent devant Dieu, et on leur donna sept trompettes.

2. And I saw that the seven angels who stood before God were given seven trumpets.

3. Puis il vint un autre ange, et il se tint prés de l'autel, un encensoir d'or à la main; on lui donna beaucoup de parfums pour qu'il fit une offrande des prières de tous les saints, sur l'autel d'or qui est devant le trône;

3. Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a gold censer. He was given a great quantity of incense to offer, along with the prayers of all the holy ones, on the gold altar that was before the throne.

4. et la fumée des parfums, formés des prières des saints, monta de la main de l'ange devant Dieu.

4. The smoke of the incense along with the prayers of the holy ones went up before God from the hand of the angel.

5. Puis l'ange prit l'encensoir, le remplit du feu de l'autel, et le jeta sur la terre; et il y eut des voix, des tonnerres, des éclairs, et la terre trembla.

5. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with burning coals from the altar, and hurled it down to the earth. There were peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

6. Et les sept anges qui avaient les sept trompettes se préparèrent à en sonner.

6. The seven angels who were holding the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.

7. Et le premier sonna de la trompette et il y eut de la grêle et du feu mêlés de sang, qui tombèrent sur la terre; et le tiers de la terre fût brûlé, et le tiers des arbres fût brûlé, et toute l'herbe verte fut brûlée.

7. When the first one blew his trumpet, there came hail and fire mixed with blood, which was hurled down to the earth. A third of the land was burned up, along with a third of the trees and all green grass.

8. Et le deuxième ange sonna de la trompette, et une sorte de grande montagne tout en feu fût jetée dans la mer; et le tiers de la mer devint du sang,

8. When the second angel blew his trumpet, something like a large burning mountain was hurled into the sea. A third of the sea turned to blood,

9. et le tiers des créatures marines qui ont vie périt, et le tiers des navires lut détruit.

9. a third of the creatures living in the sea died, and a third of the ships were wrecked.

10. Et le troisième ange sonna de la trompette; et il tomba du ciel une grande étoile, ardente comme une torche, et elle tomba sur le tiers des fleuves et sur les sources des eaux.

10. When the third angel blew his trumpet, a large star burning like a torch fell from the sky. It fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water.

11. Le nom de cette étoile est Absinthe; et le tiers des eaux fût changé en absinthe, et beaucoup d'hommes moururent de ces eaux, parce qu'elles étaient devenues amères.

11. The star was called "Wormwood," and a third of all the water turned to wormwood. Many people died from this water, because it was made bitter.

12. Et le quatrième ange sonna de la trompette; et le tiers du soleil fut frappé, ainsi que le tiers de la lune et le tiers des étoiles, afin que le tiers de ces astres fût obscurci, et que le jour perdit un tiers de sa clarté et la nuit de même.

12. When the fourth angel blew his trumpet, a third of the sun, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars were struck, so that a third of them became dark. The day lost its light for a third of the time, as did the night.

13. Puis je vis, et j'entendis un aigle qui volait par le milieu du ciel, disant d'une voix forte : " Malheur! Malheur! Malheur à ceux qui habitent sur la terre, à cause du son des trois autres trompettes dont les trois anges vont sonner ! "

13. Then I looked again and heard an eagle flying high overhead cry out in a loud voice, "Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth from the rest of the trumpet blasts that the three angels are about to blow!"
