1. La neuvième année de Sédécias, roi de Juda, au dixième mois, Nabuchodo-nosor était venu avec toute son armée devant Jérusalem et l'avait assiégée.

1. In the tenth month of the ninth year of Zedekiah, king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and all his army marched against Jerusalem and besieged it.

2. La onzième année de Sédécias, au quatrième mois, le neuvième jour du mois, la ville était forcée.

2. On the ninth day of the fourth month, in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, a breach was made in the city's defenses.

3. Tous les chefs du roi de Babylone entrèrent et se postèrent à la porte du milieu: Nergal-Séréser, gar-dien du trésor, Nabu-Sarsakim, chef des eunuques, Nergal-Séréser, chef des ma-ges, et tous les autres chefs du roi de Babylone.

3. All the princes of the king of Babylon came and occupied the middle gate: Nergal-sharezer, of Simmagir, the chief officer, Nebushazban, the high dignitary, and all the other princes of the king of Babylon. . . .

4. Lorsque Sédécias, roi de Juda, et tous les hommes de guerre les eurent vus ils s'enfuirent et sortirent de la ville pendant la nuit par le chemin du jardin du roi, par la porte entre les deux murs, et ils prirent le chemin de la plaine.

4. When Zedekiah, king of Judah, saw them, he and all his warriors fled by night, leaving the city on the Royal Garden Road through the gate between the two walls. He went in the direction of the Arabah,

5. L'armée des Chaldéens les poursuivit et atteignit Sédécias dans la plaine de Jéricho; ils le prirent et: l'emmenèrent à Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, à Ribla, au pays de Hamath, et il lui pro-nonça sa sentence.

5. but the Chaldean army pursued them, and overtook and captured Zedekiah in the desert near Jericho. He was brought to Riblah, in the land of Hamath, where Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, pronounced sentence upon him.

6. Le roi de Babylone fit égorger à Ribla les fils de Sédécias sous ses, yeux; le roi de Babylone fit aussi égorger tous les grands de Juda;

6. As Zedekiah looked on, his sons were slain at Riblah by order of the king of Babylon, who slew also all the nobles of Judah.

7. et il fit crever les yeux à Sédécias, et le fit lier de doubles chaînes d'airain pour l'emmener à Babylone.

7. He then blinded Zedekiah and bound him in chains to bring him to Babylon.

8. Puis les Chal-déens brûlèrent la maison du roi et les maisons du peuple, et démolirent, les murailles de Jérusalem.

8. The Chaldeans set fire to the king's palace and the houses of the people, and demolished the walls of Jerusalem.

9. Et le reste des habitants qui étaient encore dans la ville, les transfuges qui s'étaient rendus à lui, et le reste des gens du pays, Nabuzar-dan, chef des gardes, les emmena captifs à Babylone;

9. Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard, deported to Babylon the rest of the people left in the city, those who had deserted to him, and the rest of the workmen.

10. et parmi les gens qui ne possédaient rien, Nabuzardan en laissa dans le pays de Juda, et il leur donna des vignes et des champs.

10. But some of the poor who had no property were left in the land of Judah by Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard, and were given at the same time vineyards and farms.

11. Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, donna cet ordre à Nabuzardan, chef des gardes, au sujet de Jérémie:

11. Concerning Jeremiah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, gave the following orders through Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard:

12. "Prends-le, veille sur lui et ne lui fais point de mal; mais agis avec lui comme il te le dira."

12. "Take him and look after him; let no harm befall him, but treat him as he himself requests."

13. Nabuzardan, chef des gardes, Nabusezban, chef des eunuques, et Nergal-Séréser, chef des mages,

13. Thereupon Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard, and Nebushazban, the high dignitary, and Nergal-sharezer, the chief officer, and all the nobles of the king of Babylon,

14. et tous les chefs du roi de Babylone envoyèrent l'ordre de retirer Jérémie de la cour de la prison, et il le remirent à Godolias, Fils d'Ahicam, fils de Saphan, pour le con-duire dans la maison; et il demeura par-mi le peuple.

14. had Jeremiah taken out of the quarters of the guard, and entrusted to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, to be brought home. And so he remained among the people.

15. La parole de Yahweh fut adressée à Jérémie, pendant qu'il était enfermé dans la cour de la prison, en ces termes:

15. While Jeremiah was still imprisoned in the quarters of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him:

16. Va, parle à Abdémélech, Ethiopien, et dis-lui: Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Je vais exécuter mes paroles sur cette ville, pour le mal, et non pour le bien, et ces choses seront aujourd'hui sous tes yeux.

16. Go, tell this to Ebed-melech the Cushite: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am now fulfilling the words I spoke against this city, for evil and not for good; and this before your very eyes.

17. Mais je te délivrerai en ce jour, dit Yahweh, et tu ne seras pas livré aux mains des hom-mes que tu crains.

17. But on that day I will rescue you, says the LORD; you shall not be handed over to the men of whom you are afraid.

18. Je te ferai sûre-ment échapper, et tu ne tomberas pas sous l'épée; tu auras ta vie pour butin, parce que tu t'es confié en moi, dit Jé-hovah.

18. I will make certain that you escape and do not fall by the sword. Your life shall be spared as booty, because you trusted in me, says the LORD.
