Jéremie, 19

1. Ainsi a parlé Yahweh: Va, achète-toi une cru; prends avec toi dans anciens du peuple d'entre les prêtres.

1. Thus said the LORD: Go, buy a potter's earthen flask. Take along some of the elders of the people and of the priests,

2. Sors vers la vallée du fils de Hinnom, qui est à l'entrée de la porte de la poterie, et là tu publieras des les paroles que je te dirai. Tu diras:

2. and go out toward the Valley of Ben-hinnom, at the entrance of the Potsherd Gate; there proclaim the words which I will speak to you:

3. Ecoutez la parole de Yahweh, Rois de Juda et habitants de Jérusalem. Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Je vais amener sur ce lieu un malheur Tel, que les oreilles tinteront à qui en entendra parler,

3. Listen to the word of the LORD, kings of Judah and citizens of Jerusalem: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: I am going to bring such evil upon this place that all who hear of it will feel their ears tingle.

4. Parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné, Qu'ils ont aliéné ce lieu, Qu'ils y ont offert de l'encens à des dieux étrangers Qu'ils ne connaissaient pas, eux, leurs pères et les rois de Juda, Et qu'ils ont rempli ce lieu du sang des innocents.

4. This is because they have forsaken me and alienated this place by burning in it incense to strange gods which neither they nor their fathers knew; and the kings of Judah have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.

5. Ils ont bâti des hauts lieux à Baal Pour consumer leurs enfants par le feu en holocauste à Baal; Choses que je n'avais pas commandées, ni dites, Et qui n'étaient point montées dans ma pensée.

5. They have built high places for Baal to immolate their sons in fire as holocausts to Baal: such a thing as I neither commanded nor spoke of, nor did it ever enter my mind.

6. C'est pourquoi voici que des jours viennent, dit Yahweh, Où ce lieu ne sera plus appelé Topheth ni vallée du fils de Hinnom, Mais vallée du carnage.

6. Therefore, days will come, says the LORD, when this place will no longer be called Topheth, or the Valley of Ben-hinnom, but rather, the Valley of Slaughter.

7. Je rendrai vain dans ce lieu le conseil de Juda et de Jérusalem; Je les ferai tomber par l'épée devant leurs ennemis Et par la main de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie, Et je donnerai leurs cadavres en pâture Aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre:

7. In this place I will foil the plan of Judah and Jerusalem; I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies, by the hand of those that seek their lives. Their corpses I will give as food to the birds of the sky and the beasts of the field.

8. Et je ferai de cette ville un objet de stupeur et de moquerie; Quiconque passera près d'elle sera stupéfait Et rira de toutes ses meurtrissures.

8. I will make this city an object of amazement and derision. Because of all its wounds, every passer-by will be amazed and will catch his breath.

9. Je leur ferai manger la chair de leurs fils et la chair de leurs filles; Ils mangeront la chair les uns des autres Dans l'angoisse et la détresse Où les réduiront leurs ennemis Et ceux qui en veulent à leur vie.

9. I will have them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters; they shall eat one another's flesh during the strict siege by which their enemies and those who seek their lives will confine them.

10. Tu briseras ensuite la cruche sous les yeux ,des hommes venus avec toi, et tu leur diras:

10. And you shall break the flask in the sight of the men who went with you,

11. Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées: Je briserai ce peuple et cette ville, Comme on brise le vase du potier qui ne peut plus être réparé, Et l'on enterrera à Topheth faute de place pour enterrer.

11. and say to them: Thus says the LORD of hosts: Thus will I smash this people and this city, as one smashes a clay pot so that it cannot be repaired. And Topheth shall be a burial place, for lack of place to bury elsewhere.

12. Voilà ce que je ferai à ce lieu, dit Yahweh, et à ses habitants, En rendant cette ville semblable à Topheth.

12. Thus I will do to this place and to its inhabitants, says the LORD; I will make this city like Topheth.

13. Les maisons de Jérusalem et les maisons des rois de Juda Seront telles que ce lieu de Topheth, souillées; Oui, toutes les maisons sur les toits desquelles On a offert de l'encens à toute l'armée des cieux Et versé des libations à des dieux étrangers.

13. And the houses of Jerusalem and the palaces of the kings of Judah shall be defiled like the place of Topheth, all the houses upon whose roofs they burnt incense to the whole host of heaven and poured out libations to strange gods.

14. Jérémie revint de Topheth où Yahweh l'avait envoyé prophétiser, et s'étant placé dans le parvis de la maison de Jého-vah, il dit à tout le peuple;

14. When Jeremiah returned from Topheth, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy, he stood in the court of the house of God and said to all the people:

15. "Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées le Dieu d'Israël: Je vais faire venir sur cette ville et sur toutes les villes de son res-sort tous les malheurs que j'ai annoncés contre elle, parce qu'ils ont raidi leur cou pour ne point obéir à mes paroles."

15. Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: I will surely bring upon this city all the evil with which I threatened it, because they have stiffened their necks and have not obeyed my words.
