Jéremie, 17

1. Le péché de Juda est écrit avec un stylet de fer, Avec une pointe de diamant ; Il est gravé sur la table de leurs c?urs Et aux cornes de vos autels.

1. The sin of Judah is written with an iron stylus, Engraved with a diamond point upon the tablets of their hearts.(And the horns of their altars,

2. Comme ils pensent à leurs enfants, Ainsi pensent-ils à leurs autels et à leurs idoles d'Astarté Près des arbres verts sur les collines élevées.

2. when their sons remember their altars and their sacred poles, beside the green trees, on the high hills,

3. O ma montagne qui es dans le champ, Je livrerai au pillage tes biens, tous tes trésors, tes hauts lieux, A cause de tes péchés surtout ton territoire.

3. the peaks in the highland.) Your wealth and all your treasures I will give as spoil. In recompense for all your sins throughout your borders,

4. Tu laisseras en friche, et par ta faute,- Ton héritage que je t'avais donné; Je t'asservirai à tes ennemis dans un pays que tu ne connais pas; Car vous avez allumé le feu de ma colère, Et il brûle pour jamais..

4. You will relinquish your hold on your heritage which I have given you. I will enslave you to your enemies in a land that you know not: For a fire has been kindled by my wrath that will burn forever.

5. Ainsi parle Yahweh: Maudit soit l'homme qui se confie en l'homme, Qui fait de la chair son bras, Et dont le c?ur se retire de Yahweh!

5. Thus says the LORD: Cursed is the man who trusts in human beings, who seeks his strength in flesh, whose heart turns away from the LORD.

6. Il est comme une bruyère dans une lande; Il ne verra point venir le bonheur; Il occupera les lieux brûlés au désert, Une terre salée et sans habitants.

6. He is like a barren bush in the desert that enjoys no change of season, But stands in a lava waste, a salt and empty earth.

7. Béni soit l'homme qui se confie en Yahweh Et dont Yahweh est la confiance!

7. Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose hope is the LORD.

8. Il est comme un arbre planté au bord des eaux : Il pousse ses racines vers le courant; Il ne craint pas quand vient la chaleur, Et son feuillage reste vert; Il ne s'inquiète point de l'année de la sécheresse Et ne cesse pas de porter du fruit.

8. He is like a tree planted beside the waters that stretches out its roots to the stream: It fears not the heat when it comes, its leaves stay green; In the year of drought it shows no distress, but still bears fruit.

9. Le c?ur est rusé plus que toute chose et corrompu: Qui le connaîtra?

9. More tortuous than all else is the human heart, beyond remedy; who can understand it?

10. Moi, Yahweh, qui sonde les c?urs et qui éprouve les reins, Et cela pour rendre à chacun selon ses voies,- Selon le fruit de ses ?uvres.

10. I, the LORD, alone probe the mind and test the heart, To reward everyone according to his ways, according to the merit of his deeds.

11. Une perdrix couve des oeufs qu'elle n'a pas pondus; Tel est l'homme qui acquiert des richesses injustement; Au milieu de ses jours il doit les quitter, Et à sa fin il n'est plus qu'un insensé.

11. A partridge that mothers a brood not her own is the man who acquires wealth unjustly: In midlife it will desert him; in the end he is only a fool.

12. Trône de gloire! Majesté éternelle! Lieu de notre sanctuaire!

12. A throne of glory, exalted from the beginning, such is our holy place.

13. Espoir d'Israël, Yahweh! Tous ceux qui t'abandonnent seront confondus! Ceux qui se détournent de moi seront inscrits sur la terre; Car ils ont abandonné la source des eaux vives, Yahweh.

13. O hope of Israel, O LORD! all who forsake you shall be in disgrace; The rebels in the land shall be put to shame; they have forsaken the source of living waters (the LORD).

14. Guéris-moi, Yahweh, et je serai guéri; Sauve-moi, et je serai sauvé,- Car tu es ma louange.

14. Heal me, LORD, that I may be healed; save me, that I may be saved, for it is you whom I praise.

15. Voici qu'ils me disent: "Où est la parole de Yahweh? Qu'elle s'accomplisse donc!"

15. See how they say to me, "Where is the word of the LORD? Let it come to pass!"

16. Et moi je n'ai pas refusé d'être pasteur à ta suite; Je n'ai pas désiré le jour du malheur, tu le sais; Ce qui est sorti de mes lèvres était présent devant ta face.

16. Yet I did not press you to send calamity; the day without remedy I have not desired. You know what passed my lips; it is present before you.

17. Ne sois pas pour moi une cause d'effroi; Tu es mon refuge au jour du malheur.

17. Do not be my ruin, you, my refuge in the day of misfortune.

18. Que mes persécuteurs soient consternés Et que je ne sois pas confondu moi-même; Qu'ils tremblent, eux, et que moi je ne tremble pas; Amène sur eux le jour du malheur, Et brise les d'une double brèche.

18. Let my persecutors, not me, be confounded; let them, not me, be broken. Bring upon them the day of misfortune, crush them with repeated destruction.

19. Ainsi m'a parlé Yahweh: Va, et tiens-toi à la porte des fils du peuple, par où entrent et sortent les rois de Judas, et à toutes les portes de Jérusalem ;

19. Thus said the LORD to me: Go, stand at the Gate of Benjamin, where the kings of Judah enter and leave, and at the other gates of Jerusalem.

20. Et tu leur diras: Ecoutez la parole de Yahweh, Vous, rois de Juda, et tout Juda, Et vous tous habitants de Jérusalem, Qui entrez par ces portes.

20. There say to them: Hear the word of the LORD, you kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all you citizens of Jerusalem who enter these gates!

21. Ainsi parle Yahweh: Prenez garde à vos âmes, Et ne portez point de fardeaux le jour du sabbat, Et n'en faites point passer par les portes de Jérusalem;.

21. Thus says the LORD: As you love your lives, take care not to carry burdens on the sabbath day, to bring them in through the gates of Jerusalem.

22. Ne faites sortir de vos maisons aucun fardeau le jour du sabbat, Ne faites aucun ouvrage Et sanctifiez le jour du sabbat, Comme je l'ai ordonné à vos pères.

22. Bring no burden from your homes on the sabbath. Do no work whatever, but keep holy the sabbath, as I commanded your fathers,

23. Ils n'ont pas écouté ni prêté l'oreille; Ils ont raidi leur cou pour ne pas écouter Et ne pas obéir au précepte.

23. though they did not listen or give ear, but stiffened their necks so as not to hear or take correction.

24. Si vous m'écoutez docilement, dit Yahweh, En ne faisant point passer de fardeaux Par les portes de la ville le jour du sabbat, Et si vous sanctifiez le jour du sabbat En ne faisant aucun ouvrage ce jour-là,

24. If you obey me wholeheartedly, says the LORD, and carry no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath, keeping the sabbath holy and abstaining from all work on it,

25. Alors par les portes de cette ville Passeront des rois et des princes Assis sur le trône de David, Montés sur des chars et des chevaux, Eux et leurs princes, Les hommes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem, Et cette ville sera habitée à jamais.

25. then, through the gates of this city, kings who sit upon the throne of David will continue to enter, riding in their chariots or upon their horses, along with their princes, and the men of Judah, and the citizens of Jerusalem. This city will remain inhabited forever.

26. On viendra des villes de Juda Et des environs de Jérusalem, Du pays de Benjamin et de la Séphéla, De la montagne et du midi, Amener des holocaustes et des sacrifices, Des oblations et de l'encens, Et apporter des actions de grâces Dans la maison de Yahweh.

26. To it people will come from the cities of Judah and the neighborhood of Jerusalem, from the land of Benjamin and from the foothills, from the hill country and the Negeb, to bring holocausts and sacrifices, cereal offerings and incense and thank offerings to the house of the LORD.

27. Mais si vous n'écoutez pas mon commandement De sanctifier le jour du sabbat, De ne porter aucun fardeau Et de ne point en faire passer par les portes de Jérusalem un jour de sabbat, Alors je mettrai le feu aux portes de la ville, Et il dévorera les palais de Jérusalem, Et il ne s'éteindra point.

27. But if you do not obey me and keep holy the sabbath, if you carry burdens and come through the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath, I will set unquenchable fire to its gates, which will consume the palaces of Jerusalem.
