Job, 34

1. Elihú continuó hablando y dijo:

1. Furthermore Elihu answered and said,

2. «Sabios y doctos, escuchen, presten atención a mis palabras.

2. Hear my words, O ye wise [men]; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

3. Porque el oído aprecia las palabras como el paladar gusta los manjares.

3. For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.

4. Examinemos, pues, entre nosotros lo que es justo, reconozcamos lo que es bueno.

4. Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what [is] good.

5. Job ha dicho: «Yo soy justo, pero Dios niega mi derecho

5. For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.

6. y miente en contra mía, mi llaga es incurable, a pesar de que no tengo culpa.»

6. Should I lie against my right? my wound [is] incurable without transgression.

7. Pero, ¿acaso hay alguien como Job que se burla tan fácilmente como bebe?

7. What man [is] like Job, [who] drinketh up scorning like water?

8. Ahora toma el partido de los malvados y camina con los hombres impíos.

8. Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.

9. Job ha dicho: «El hombre no saca provecho con estar en gracia de Dios.»

9. For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

10. Por eso, ustedes que saben pensar, escúchenme: Lejos de Dios el mal, y del Omnipotente, la injusticia.

10. Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, [that he should do] wickedness; and [from] the Almighty, [that he should commit] iniquity.

11. Porque él retribuye la obra del hombre y trata a cada uno según su conducta.

11. For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to [his] ways.

12. Ciertamente, Dios no hace el mal y el Omnipotente no tuerce el derecho.

12. Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

13. ¿Quién le confió la tierra, y le encargó el mundo entero?

13. Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?

14. Si llamara de vuelta a su sabiduría y recogiera su soplo y su espíritu,

14. If he set his heart upon man, [if] he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;

15. en un instante moriría toda la tierra y los hombres volverían al polvo.

15. All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.

16. Si tienes inteligencia, escúchame y presta atención a mis palabras:

16. If now [thou hast] understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.

17. ¿Acaso puede gobernar el que odia el derecho? ¿Cómo vas a condenar al Justo Supremo?

17. Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?

18. El puede decir a un rey: ¡Infame!, y a los príncipes: ¡Malvados!

18. [Is it fit] to say to a king, [Thou art] wicked? [and] to princes, [Ye are] ungodly?

19. No toma el partido de los príncipes ni distingue entre el rico y el pobre, porque todos son obra de sus manos.

19. [How much less to him] that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all [are] the work of his hands.

20. Mueren de noche en un instante: se amotina un pueblo y derriba al tirano sin esfuerzo.

20. In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.

21. Pues sus ojos vigilan los caminos del hombre, y observan todos sus pasos,

21. For his eyes [are] upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.

22. no hay tinieblas ni sombras donde puedan esconderse los malvados,

22. [There is] no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

23. Al hombre no le fija fecha para presentarse ante Dios:

23. For he will not lay upon man more [than right]; that he should enter into judgment with God.

24. derrota a los grandes sin averiguaciones y pone a otros en su lugar.

24. He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.

25. El, conocedor de sus obras, los derriba en una noche y quedan aplastados,

25. Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth [them] in the night, so that they are destroyed.

26. los abofetea como a malvados allí donde todos puedan verlos,

26. He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;

27. porque se apartaron de él y no tomaron en cuenta su voluntad

27. Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:

28. mientras hasta élsubía el grito de los débiles: él escuchaba el lamento de los pobres.

28. So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.

29. Si Dios calla, ¿quién lo moverá? Si esconde su rostro, ¿quién lo descubrirá? Vela sobre las naciones y los individuos,

29. When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth [his] face, who then can behold him? whether [it be done] against a nation, or against a man only:

30. y le quita el poder al opresor del pueblo.

30. That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.

31. Pero si éste dice a Dios: «Me dejé llevar, no volveré a hacer mal;

31. Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne [chastisement], I will not offend [any more]:

32. enséñame hasta que yo sepa bien; He cometido crímenes, pero no volveré a hacerlo»;

32. [That which] I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

33. según tu parecer, ¿lo castigará Dios? Dilo, pues, tú que criticas, tú debes responder, no yo, di pues lo sabes.

33. [Should it be] according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.

34. Los hombres sensatos me dirán, al igual que todo sabio que me escuche:

34. Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.

35. Job habla sin saber, y sus argumentos no valen.

35. Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words [were] without wisdom.

36. Más aún, Job debe ser examinado a fondo por sus respuestas, propias de malvados.

36. My desire [is that] Job may be tried unto the end because of [his] answers for wicked men.

37. Job ahora peca con plena advertencia, ya que niega su falta entre nosotros y no cesa de hablar contra Dios.»

37. For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth [his hands] among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
