2 Corinthians, 8

7. You excel in everything: in the gifts of faith, speech and knowledge; you feel concern for every cause and, besides, you are first in my heart. Excel also in this generous service.

2 Corinthians 8 deals with the collection of money Paul was organizing to help poor Christians in Jerusalem. 1 Corinthians 16:2 - "On the first day of the week, each of you put aside what you can gather, according to your prosperity, so that the collections are not made when I arrive." This verse shows that the collection of money to help the needy brothers was a common practice among Christians in Paul's time.
