Exode, 10

1. Yahweh dit à Moïse : "Va vers Pharaon, car j'ai appesanti son coeur et le coeur de ses serviteurs, afin d'opérer mes signes au milieu d'eux

1. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh, for I have made him and his servants obdurate in order that I may perform these signs of mine among them

2. et afin que tu racontes aux oreilles de ton fils et du fils de ton fils quelles grandes choses j'ai faites en Egypte et quels signes j'ai opérés au milieu d'eux; et vous saurez ! que je suis Yahweh."

2. and that you may recount to your son and grandson how ruthlessly I dealt with the Egyptians and what signs I wrought among them, so that you may know that I am the LORD."

3. Moïse et Aaron allèrent vers Pharaon et lui dirent: " Ainsi parle Yahweh, le Dieu des Hébreux: Jusques à quand refuseras-tu de t'humilier devant moi ? Laisse aller mon peuple, afin qu'il me serve.

3. So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and told him, "Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: How long will you refuse to submit to me? Let my people go to worship me.

4. Si tu refuses de laisser aller mon peuple, voici que je ferai venir demain des sauterelles dans toute l'étendue de ton pays.

4. If you refuse to let my people go, I warn you, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your country.

5. Elles couvriront la face de la terre, et l'on ne pourra plus voir la terre; elles dévoreront le reste qui a échappé, ce que vous a laissé la grêle, et elles dévoreront tous les arbres qui croissent dans vos champs;

5. They shall cover the ground, so that the ground itself will not be visible. They shall eat up the remnant you saved unhurt from the hail, as well as all the foliage that has since sprouted in your fields.

6. elles rempliront tes maisons, les maisons de tous tes serviteurs et celles de tous les Egyptiens. Tes pères et les pères de tes pères n'ont jamais vu pareille calamité depuis qu'ils existent sur la terre jusqu'à ce jour." Moïse se retira et sortit de chez Pharaon.

6. They shall fill your houses and the houses of your servants and of all the Egyptians; such a sight your fathers or grandfathers have not seen from the day they first settled on this soil up to the present day." With that he turned and left Pharaoh.

7. Les serviteurs de Pharaon lui dirent: "Jusques à quand cet homme sera-t-il pour nous un piège ? Laisse aller ces gens, et qu'ils servent Yahweh leur Dieu. Ne vois-tu pas encore que l'Egypte va à sa ruine?"

7. But Pharaoh's servants said to him, "How long must he be a menace to us? Let the men go to worship the LORD, their God. Do you not yet realize that Egypt is being destroyed?"

8. On fit revenir Moïse et Aaron auprès de Pharaon, et il leur dit: "Allez, servez Yahweh, votre Dieu. Qui sont ceux qui doivent y aller?"

8. So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh, who said to them, "You may go and worship the LORD, your God. But how many of you will go?"

9. Moïse répondit: "Nous irons avec nos enfants et nos vieillards, avec nos fils et nos filles, avec nos brebis et nos boeufs; car c'est pour nous une fête en l'honneur de Yahweh."

9. "Young and old must go with us," Moses answered, "our sons and daughters as well as our flocks and herds must accompany us. That is what a feast of the LORD means to us."

10. Pharaon leur dit: "Que Yahweh soit avec vous, comme je vais vous laisser aller, vous et vos enfants! Prenez garde, car vous avez de mauvais desseins !

10. "The LORD help you," Pharaoh replied, "if I ever let your little ones go with you! Clearly, you have some evil in mind.

11. Non, non; allez, vous les hommes, et servez Yahweh, puisque c'est là ce que vous demandez." Et on les chassa de devant Pharaon.

11. No, no! Just you men can go and worship the LORD. After all, that is what you want." With that they were driven from Pharaoh's presence.

12. Yahweh dit à Moïse : "Etends ta main sur le pays d'Egypte pour les sauterelles; qu'elles montent sur le pays d'Egypte; qu'elles dévorent toute l'herbe de la terre, tout ce que la grêle a laissé."

12. The LORD then said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt, that locusts may swarm over it and eat up all the vegetation and whatever the hail has left."

13. Moïse étendit son bâton sur le pays d'Egypte, et Yahweh fit souffler sur le pays un vent d'orient tout ce jour-là et toute la nuit. Le matin venu, le vent d'orient avait apporté les sauterelles.

13. So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the LORD sent an east wind blowing over the land all that day and all that night. At dawn the east wind brought the locusts.

14. Les sauterelles montèrent sur tout le pays d'Egypte et se posèrent sur tout le territoire de l'Egypte, en si grande quantité, que jamais il n'y avait eu et qu'il n'y aura jamais rien de semblable.

14. They swarmed over the whole land of Egypt and settled down on every part of it. Never before had there been such a fierce swarm of locusts, nor will there ever be.

15. Elles couvrirent la face de toute la terre, et la terre en fut assombrie; elles dévorèrent toute l'herbe de la terre et tous les fruits des arbres, ce que la grêle avait laissé, et il ne resta aucune verdure aux arbres ni à l'herbe des champs, dans tous le pays d'Egypte.

15. They covered the surface of the whole land, till it was black with them. They ate up all the vegetation in the land and the fruit of whatever trees the hail had spared. Nothing green was left on any tree or plant throughout the land of Egypt.

16. Pharaon appela aussitôt Moïse et Aaron, et dit: " J'ai péché contre Yahweh, votre Dieu, et contre vous.

16. Hastily Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "I have sinned against the LORD, your God, and against you.

17. Mais pardonne mon péché encore cette fois seulement; et priez Yahweh, votre Dieu, afin qu'il éloigne de moi au moins ce fléau mortel."

17. But now, do forgive me my sin once more, and pray the LORD, your God, to take at least this deadly pest from me."

18. Moïse sortit de chez Pharaon et pria Yahweh.

18. When Moses left the presence of Pharaoh, he prayed to the LORD,

19. Et Yahweh fit souffler un vent d'occident très fort, qui emporta les sauterelles et les poussa dans la mer Rouge; il ne resta pas une seule sauterelle dans toute l'étendue de l'Egypte.

19. and the LORD changed the wind to a very strong west wind, which took up the locusts and hurled them into the Red Sea. But though not a single locust remained within the confines of Egypt,

20. --Yahweh endurcit le coeur de Pharaon, et Pharaon ne laissa point aller les enfants d'Israël.

20. the LORD made Pharaoh obstinate, and he would not let the Israelites go.

21. Yahweh dit à Moïse : "Etends ta main vers le ciel, et qu'il y ait des ténèbres sur le pays d'Egypte, qu'on palpe les ténèbres."

21. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that over the land of Egypt there may be such intense darkness that one can feel it."

22. Moïse étendit sa main vers le ciel, et il y eut d'épaisses ténèbres dans tout le pays d'Egypte, pendant trois jours.

22. So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was dense darkness throughout the land of Egypt for three days.

23. Ils ne se voyaient. pas les uns les autres, et nul ne se leva de la place où il était, pendant trois jours; mais tous les enfants d'Israël avaient de la lumière dans les lieux qu'ils habitaient.

23. Men could not see one another, nor could they move from where they were, for three days. But all the Israelites had light where they dwelt.

24. Pharaon appela Moïse, et dit: "Allez, servez Yahweh. Vos brebis et. vos boeufs seuls resteront, et vos petits enfants mêmes pourront aller avec vous."

24. Pharaoh then summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "Go and worship the LORD. Your little ones, too, may go with you. But your flocks and herds must remain."

25. Moïse répondit: "Tu dois mettre entre nos mains de quoi faire des sacrifices et des holocaustes à Yahweh, notre Dieu.

25. Moses replied, "You must also grant us sacrifices and holocausts to offer up to the LORD, our God.

26. Nos troupeaux viendront aussi avec nous; il n'en restera pas un ongle; car c'est d'eux que nous prendrons de quoi servir Yahweh, notre Dieu; et nous ne savons pas nous-mêmes, jusqu'à ce que nous soyons arrivés là, avec quoi nous devons servir Yahweh."

26. Hence, our livestock also must go with us. Not an animal must be left behind. Some of them we must sacrifice to the LORD, our God, but we ourselves shall not know which ones we must sacrifice to him until we arrive at the place itself."

27. Yahweh endurcit le coeur de Pharaon, et Pharaon ne voulut pas les laisser aller.

27. But the LORD made Pharaoh obstinate, and he would not let them go.

28. Pharaon dit à Moïse: "Sors de chez moi ! . Garde-toi de paraître encore en ma présence, car le jour où tu paraîtras en ma présence, tu mourras."

28. "Leave my presence," Pharaoh said to him, "and see to it that you do not appear before me again! The day you appear before me you shall die!"

29. Et Moïse répondit: "Tu l'as dit: je ne paraîtrai plus devant toi."

29. Moses replied, "Well said! I will never appear before you again."
