Psalms, 10

1. Unto the end. A psalm for David.

1. Perché, o Signore, te ne stai lontano, ti tieni nascosto nei tempi di angustia?

2. In the Lord I put my trust: how then do you say to my soul: Get thee away from hence to the mountain like a sparrow?

2. Con arroganza l'empio opprime il misero: siano presi nei piani che hanno tramato.

3. For, lo, the wicked have bent their bow; they have prepared their arrows in the quiver; to shoot in the dark the upright of heart.

3. Poiché si gloriò il malvagio per i desideri della sua anima e l'avaro si proclamò beato.

4. For they have destroyed the things which thou hast made: but what has the just man done?

4. Il malvagio disprezzò il Signore nella sua arroganza: "Egli non investigherà: non c'è Dio!". Questi sono tutti i suoi pensieri.

5. The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord's throne is in heaven. His eyes look on the poor man: his eyelids examine the sons of men.

5. Prosperano le sue vie in ogni tempo. Troppo alti sono i tuoi giudizi, del tutto lontani dal suo cospetto; egli disprezza tutti i suoi nemici.

6. The Lord trieth the just and the wicked: but he that loveth iniquity hateth his own soul.

6. In cuor suo egli disse: "Non vacillerò. Senza mali sarò di generazione in generazione".

7. He shall rain snares upon sinners: fire and brimstone and storms of winds shall be the portion of their cup.

7. D'imprecazione è piena la sua bocca, di frodi e vessazioni; sotto la sua lingua oppressione e iniquità.

8. For the Lord is just, and hath loved justice: his countenance hath beheld righteousness.

8. Sta in agguato negli accampamenti per uccidere di nascosto l'innocente, i suoi occhi sono fissi sul debole.

9. His eyes are upon the poor man: He lieth in wait in secret like a lion in his den. He lieth in ambush that he may catch the poor man: to catch the poor, whilst he draweth him to him.

9. Sta in agguato nel nascondiglio, come il leone nella sua tana, sta in agguato per depredare il misero, depreda il misero traendolo nella sua rete.

10. In his net he will bring him down, he will crouch and fall, when he shall have power over the poor.

10. Balza a terra, si china e cadono i deboli nella forza dei suoi artigli.

11. For he hath said in his heart: God hath forgotten, he hath turned away his face not to see to the end.

11. Dice in cuor suo: "Si è dimenticato Dio, s'è coperto il volto; non vedrà più in perpetuo!".

12. Arise, O Lord God, let thy hand be exalted: forget not the poor.

12. Sorgi, Signore Dio, alza la tua mano, non tenere i poveri in oblìo.

13. Wherefore hath the wicked provoked God? for he hath said in his heart: He will not require it.

13. L'empio ha disprezzato Dio dicendo in cuor suo: "Tu non giudichi?".

14. Thou seest it, for thou considerest labour and sorrow: that thou mayst deliver them into thy hands. To thee is the poor man left: thou wilt be a helper to the orphan.

14. Sì, tu hai visto fatica e afflizione e stai all'erta per ripagarle con la tua mano. A te s'abbandona il debole: il protettore dell'orfano tu sei.

15. Break thou the arm of the sinner and of the malignant: his sin shall be sought, and shall not be found.

15. Spezza il braccio dell'empio e del malvagio e punisci la loro malizia, in modo che più non compaia.

16. The Lord shall reign to eternity, yea, for ever and ever: ye Gentiles shall perish from his land.

16. Re è il Signore, in eterno e per sempre, le genti sono scomparse dalla sua terra.

17. The Lord hath heard the desire of the poor: thy ear hath heard the preparation of their heart.

17. Il clamore dei poveri tu odi, o Signore, tu rinfranchi il loro cuore, tu protendi il tuo orecchio.

18. To judge for the fatherless and for the humble, that man may no more presume to magnify himself upon earth.

18. Se tu difendi l'orfano e l'oppresso, mai più avverrà che incuta timore un uomo della terra.
