Matthieu, 26

1. Or, quand Jésus eut achevétous ces discours, il dit à ses disciples : " Vous savez que la Pâque a lieudans deux jours,

1. he said to his disciples,

2. et le Fils de l'homme va êtrelivré pour être crucifié. "

2. "You know that in two days' time it will be Passover, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified."

3. Alors les grands prêtreset les anciens du peuple se réunirent dans le palais du grand prêtre appeléCaïphe,

3. Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

4. et ils délibérèrentsur les moyens de s'emparer de Jésus par ruse et de le faire mourir.

4. and they consulted together to arrest Jesus by treachery and put him to death.

5. " Mais, disaient-ils, pas pendantla fête, de peur qu'il n'y ait du tumulte dans le peuple. "

5. But they said, "Not during the festival, that there may not be a riot among the people."

6. Comme Jésus se trouvaità Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux,

6. Now when Jesus was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,

7. une femme s'approcha de lui, avecun vase d'albâtre (plein) d'un parfum fort précieux; et, pendant qu'ilétait à table, elle le répandit sur sa tête.

7. a woman came up to him with an alabaster jar of costly perfumed oil, and poured it on his head while he was reclining at table.

8. Ce que voyant, les disciples direntavec indignation : " A quoi bon cette perte?

8. When the disciples saw this, they were indignant and said, "Why this waste?

9. On pouvait, en effet, vendre ce(parfum) très cher et en donner (le prix) aux pauvres. " 10 Mais Jésus, s'en étantaperçu, leur dit : " Pourquoi faites-vous de la peine à cette femme? C'est une bonne actionqu'elle a faite à mon égard.

9. It could have been sold for much, and the money given to the poor."

10. Since Jesus knew this, he said to them, "Why do you make trouble for the woman? She has done a good thing for me.

11. Car toujours vous avez les pauvresavec vous; mais moi, vous ne m'avez pas toujours.

11. The poor you will always have with you; but you will not always have me.

12. En mettant ce parfum sur moncorps, elle l'a fait en prévision de ma sépulture.

12. In pouring this perfumed oil upon my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.

13. Je vous le dis, en vérité,partout où sera prêché cet évangile, dans lemonde entier, ce qu'elle a fait sera racontéaussi, en mémoire d'elle. "

13. Amen, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be spoken of, in memory of her."

14. Alors l'un des Douze, appeléJudas Iscariote, alla trouver les grands prêtres,

14. Then one of the Twelve, who was called Judas Iscar iot, went to the chief priests

15. et dit : " Que voulez-vous medonner, et je vous le livrerai? " Et ils lui fixèrent trente pièces d'argent.

15. and said, "What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" They paid him thirty pieces of silver,

16. Depuis ce moment, il cherchaitune occasion favorable pour livrer Jésus.

16. and from that time on he looked for an opportunity to hand him over.

17. Le premier jour des Azymes, lesdisciples vinrent trouver Jésus, et lui dirent : " Où voulez-vous que nousvous fassions les préparatifs pour manger la pâque? "

17. On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples approached Jesus and said, "Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?"

18. Il leur dit : " Allez àla ville, chez un tel, et dites-lui : Le maître (te) fait dire :Mon temps est proche, je ferai cheztoi la pâque avec mes disciples. "

18. He said, "Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, 'The teacher says, "My appointed time draws near; in your house I shall celebrate the Passover with my disciples."'"

19. Les disciples firent ce que Jésusleur avait commandé, et ils firent les préparatifs de la pâque. 20 Le soir venu, il se met àtable avec les douze [disciples].

19. The disciples then did as Jesus had ordered, and prepared the Passover.

20. When it was evening, he reclined at table with the Twelve.

21. Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, ildit : " Je vous le dis en vérité, un de vous me trahira "

21. And while they were eating, he said, "Amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me."

22. Et, profondément attristés,ils se mirent à lui dire, chacun de son côté : " Serait-ce moi, Seigneur? "

22. Deeply distressed at this, they began to say to him one after another, "Surely it is not I, Lord?"

23. Il répondit : " Celuiqui a mis avec moi la main au plat celui-là me trahira !

23. He said in reply, "He who has dipped his hand into the dish with me is the one who will betray me.

24. Le Fils de l'homme s'en va, selonce qui est écrit de lui; mais malheur à l'homme par qui le Fils de l'hommeest trahi ! Mieux vaudrait pour cet homme-là qu'il ne fût pas né."

24. The Son of Man indeed goes, as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed. It would be better for that man if he had never been born."

25. Judas, qui le trahissait, pritla parole et dit : " Serait-ce moi, Rabbi? ? Tu l'as dit, " répondit-il

25. Then Judas, his betrayer, said in reply, "Surely it is not I, Rabbi?" He answered, "You have said so."

26. Pendant le repas, Jésusprit du pain et après avoir dit la bénédiction, ille rompit et le donna à sesdisciples, en disant : " Prenez et mangez, ceci est mon corps. "

26. While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, "Take and eat; this is my body."

27. Il prit ensuite une coupe et,après avoir rendu grâces, il la leur donna, en disant : " Buvez-en tous,

27. Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you,

28. car ceci est mon sang, (le sang)de l'alliance, répandu pour beaucoup en rémission des péchés.

28. for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.

29. Je vous le dis, je ne boiraiplus désormais de ce produit de la vigne jusqu'à ce jour où je le boirai nouveauavec vous dans le royaume de mon Père. "

29. I tell you, from now on I shall not drink this fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it with you new in the kingdom of my Father."

30. Après le chant de l'hymne,ils s'en allèrent au mont des Oliviers.

30. Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

31. Alors Jésus leur dit :" Je vous serai à tous, cette nuit-ci, une occasion de chute, car il est écrit :Je frapperai le pasteur, et les brebis du troupeau seront dispersées.

31. Then Jesus said to them, "This night all of you will have your faith in me shaken, for it is written: 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be dispersed';

32. Mais, après que je serairessuscité, je vous précéderai en Galilée."

32. but after I have been raised up, I shall go before you to Galilee."

33. Pierre, prenant la parole, luidit : " Quand vous seriez pour tous une occasion de chute, vous ne le serez jamaispour moi. "

33. Peter said to him in reply, "Though all may have their faith in you shaken, mine will never be."

34. Jésus lui dit : " Je tele dis, en vérité, cette nuit-ci, avant que le coq ait chanté trois fois tu me renieras. "

34. Jesus said to him, "Amen, I say to you, this very night before the cock crows, you will deny me three times."

35. Pierre lui dit : " Quand mêmeil me faudrait mourir avec vous, je ne vous renierai pas. " Et tous les disciplesdirent de même.

35. Peter said to him, "Even though I should have to die with you, I will not deny you." And all the disciples spoke likewise.

36. Alors Jésus arrive aveceux en un domaine appelé Gethsémani, et il dit à ses disciples : " Demeurez ici, tandisque je m'en vais là pour prier. "

36. and he said to his disciples, "Sit here while I go over there and pray."

37. Ayant pris avec lui Pierre etles deux fils de Zébédée, il commença àéprouver de la tristesse et de l'angoisse.

37. He took along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to feel sorrow and distress.

38. Alors il leur dit : " Mon âmeest triste jusqu'à la mort; restez ici et veillez avec moi. "

38. Then he said to them, "My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch with me."

39. Et s'étant un peu avancé,il tomba sur sa face, priant et disant : " Mon Père, s'il est possible, que ce calices'éloigne de moi ! Cependant non pas comme je veux, mais comme vous (voulez) !"

39. He advanced a little and fell prostrate in prayer, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet, not as I will, but as you will."

40. Et il vient vers les discipleset il les trouve endormis; et il dit à Pierre : " Ainsi, vous n'avez pas eu la force de veillerune heure avec moi !

40. When he returned to his disciples he found them asleep. He said to Peter, "So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?

41. Veillez et priez, afin que vousn'entriez point en tentation. L'esprit est ardent, mais la chair est faible. "

41. Watch and pray that you may not undergo the test. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."

42. Il s'en alla une seconde foiset pria ainsi : " Mon Père, si ce (calice) ne peut passer sans que je le boive, quevotre volonté soit faite ! "

42. Withdrawing a second time, he prayed again, "My Father, if it is not possible that this cup pass without my drinking it, your will be done!"

43. Etant revenu, il les trouva endormis,car leurs yeux étaient appesantis.

43. Then he returned once more and found them asleep, for they could not keep their eyes open.

44. Il les laissa et, s'en allantde nouveau, il pria pour la troisième fois, redisant la même parole.

44. He left them and withdrew again and prayed a third time, saying the same thing again.

45. Alors il vient vers les discipleset leur dit : " Désormais dormez et reposez-vous; voici que l'heureest proche où le Fils de l'homme va être livré aux mains des pécheurs.

45. Then he returned to his disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand when the Son of Man is to be handed over to sinners.

46. Levez-vous, allons ! Voici quecelui qui me trahit est proche. "

46. Get up, let us go. Look, my betrayer is at hand."

47. Comme il parlait encore, voilàque Judas, l'un des Douze, arriva, et avec lui une foule nombreuse arméede glaives et de bâtons, envoyée par les grands prêtres et les anciens dupeuple.

47. While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a large crowd, with swords and clubs, who had come from the chief priests and the elders of the people.

48. Celui qui le trahissait leuravait donné un signe : " Celui à qui je donnerai un baiser, c'est lui : arrêtez-le."

48. His betrayer had arranged a sign with them, saying, "The man I shall kiss is the one; arrest him."

49. Et aussitôt, s'avançantvers Jésus, il dit : " Salut, Rabbi ! ", et il lui donna un baiser.

49. Immediately he went over to Jesus and said, "Hail, Rabbi!" and he kissed him.

50. Jésus lui dit : " Ami,tu es là pour cela ! " Alors ils s'avancèrent, mirent lamain sur Jésus et le saisirent.

50. Jesus answered him, "Friend, do what you have come for." Then stepping forward they laid hands on Jesus and arrested him.

51. Et voilà qu'un de ceuxqui étaient avec Jésus, mettant la main à son glaive,le tira et, frappant le serviteur dugrand prêtre, lui emporta l'oreille.

51. And behold, one of those who accompanied Jesus put his hand to his sword, drew it, and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his ear.

52. Alors Jésus lui dit :" Remets ton glaive à sa place; car toux ceux qui prennent le glaive périront par leglaive.

52. Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its sheath, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.

53. Ou penses-tu que je ne puissepas recourir à mon Père, qui me fournirait sur l'heure plus de douze légionsd'anges?

53. Do you think that I cannot call upon my Father and he will not provide me at this moment with more than twelve legions of angels?

54. Comment donc s'accompliraientles Ecritures, d'après lesquelles il doit en être ainsi? "

54. But then how would the scriptures be fulfilled which say that it must come to pass in this way?"

55. En ce même moment Jésusdit aux foules : " Comme contre un brigand, vous êtes sortis avec des glaiveset des bâtons pour me prendre ! Chaque jour j'étais assis dans le temple, oùj'enseignais, et vous ne m'avez pas arrêté.

55. At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to seize me? Day after day I sat teaching in the temple area, yet you did not arrest me.

56. Mais tout cela est arrivéafin que fussent accomplies les Ecritures prophétiques. " Alors tousles disciples l'abandonnèrent et prirent la fuite.

56. But all this has come to pass that the writings of the prophets may be fulfilled." Then all the disciples left him and fled.

57. Ceux qui avaient arrêtéJésus l'emmenèrent chez Caïphe, le grand prêtre,où se réunirent les scribeset les anciens.

57. the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

58. Or Pierre le suivait de loinjusqu'au palais du grand prêtre; y étant entré, ilétait assis avec les satellites pour voirla fin.

58. Peter was following him at a distance as far as the high priest's courtyard, and going inside he sat down with the servants to see the outcome.

59. Les grands prêtres et toutle Sanhédrin cherchaient un faux témoignage contre Jésus afin de le faire mourir;

59. The chief priests and the entire Sanhedrin kept trying to obtain false testimony against Jesus in order to put him to death,

60. et ils n'en trouvèrentpoint, quoique beaucoup de faux témoins se fussent présentés. Finalementil s'en présenta deux qui

60. but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward

61. dirent : " Ces homme a dit :Je puis détruire le sanctuaire de Dieu et le rebâtir en trois jours. "

61. who stated, "This man said, 'I can destroy the temple of God and within three days rebuild it.'"

62. Le grand prêtre se levaet dit à Jésus : " Tu ne réponds rien ! Qu'est-ceque ces hommes déposent contretoi? "

62. The high priest rose and addressed him, "Have you no answer? What are these men testifying against you?"

63. Mais Jésus gardait lesilence. Et le grand prêtre lui dit : " Je t'adjure par le Dieu vivant de nous dire, si tu es leChrist, le Fils de Dieu? "

63. But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest said to him, "I order you to tell us under oath before the living God whether you are the Messiah, the Son of God."

64. Jésus lui dit : " Tu l'asdit. Du reste, je vous le dis, à partir de maintenant vous verrez le Fils de l'homme assisà la droite de la Puissante et venant sur les nuées du ciel. "

64. Jesus said to him in reply, "You have said so. But I tell you: From now on you will see 'the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power' and 'coming on the clouds of heaven.'"

65. Alors le grand prêtre déchirases vêtements, en disant : " Il a blasphémé ! Qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins?Voici que vous venez d'entendre [son] blasphème :

65. Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has blasphemed! What further need have we of witnesses? You have now heard the blasphemy;

66. que vous ensemble? " Ils répondirent: " Il mérite la mort. "

66. what is your opinion?" They said in reply, "He deserves to die!"

67. Alors ils lui crachèrentau visage et le frappèrent avec le poing; d'autres le souffletèrent, en disant:

67. Then they spat in his face and struck him, while some slapped him,

68. " Prophétise-nous, Christ! Quel est celui qui t'a frappé? "

68. saying, "Prophesy for us, Messiah: who is it that struck you?"

69. Or Pierre était assis,dehors, dans la cour. Une servante s'approcha de lui et dit : " Toi aussi, tu étaisavec Jésus le Galiléen ! "

69. Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. One of the maids came over to him and said, "You too were with Jesus the Galilean."

70. Mais il nia devant tous en disant: " Je ne sais ce que tu veux dire. "

70. But he denied it in front of everyone, saying, "I do not know what you are talking about!"

71. Comme il se dirigerait vers laporte, une autre le vit et dit à ceux (qui se trouvaient) là : " Celui-làétait avec Jésus de Nazareth ! "

71. As he went out to the gate, another girl saw him and said to those who were there, "This man was with Jesus the Nazorean."

72. Et de nouveau il nia avec serment: " Je ne connais pas cet homme. "

72. Again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man!"

73. Un peu après, ceux quiétaient présents s'approchèrent et dirent àPierre : " Pour sûr, toi aussi tu enes; aussi bien, ton langage te fait reconnaître. "

73. A little later the bystanders came over and said to Peter, "Surely you too are one of them; even your speech gives you away."

74. Alors il se mit à fairedes imprécations et à jurer : " Je ne connais pas cet homme ! " Et aussitôt un coqchanta.

74. At that he began to curse and to swear, "I do not know the man." And immediately a cock crowed.

75. Et Pierre se souvint de la parolede Jésus, qui lui avait dit : " Avant que le coq ait chanté, tu me renierastrois fois. " Et étant sorti, il pleura amèrement.

75. Then Peter remembered the word that Jesus had spoken: "Before the cock crows you will deny me three times." He went out and began to weep bitterly.
