Matthieu, 8

1. Descendu de la montagne, des foulesnombreuses le suivirent.

1. When Jesus came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him.

2. Et voici qu'un lépreuxs'approcha, se prosterna devant lui et dit : " Seigneur, si vous voulez, vous pouvez me guérir. "

2. And then a leper approached, did him homage, and said, "Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean."

3. Il étendit la main, letoucha et dit : " Je le veux, sois guéri. " Et à l'Instantsa lèpre fut guérie.

3. He stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, "I will do it. Be made clean." His leprosy was cleansed immediately.

4. Alors Jésus lui dit : "Garde-toi d'en parler à personne; mais va te montrer au prêtre,et offre le don prescrit par Moïse, enattestation pour eux. "

4. Then Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one, but go show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them."

5. Comme Jésus étaitentré à Capharnaüm, un centurion l'aborda et lui fit

5. a centurion approached him and appealed to him,

6. cette prière : " Seigneur,mon serviteur est couché dans ma maison, paralysé, et ilsouffre cruellement. "

6. saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully."

7. Il lui dit : " Je vais allerle guérir. "

7. He said to him, "I will come and cure him."

8. Le centurion reprit : " Seigneur,je ne suis pas digne que vous entriez sous mon toit; mais dites seulement un mot, et mon serviteursera guéri.

8. The centurion said in reply, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed.

9. Car moi qui suis sous des chefs,j'ai des soldats sous mes ordres, et je dis à l'un : " Va, " etil va; et à un autre : " Viens," et il vient; et à mon serviteur : " Fais ceci, " et il le fait." 10 Ce qu'entendant, Jésusfut dans l'admiration, et il dit à ceux qui le suivaient : " Jevous le dis en vérité : dans Israël,chez personne je n'ai trouvé une si grande foi.

9. For I too am a person subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come here,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it."

10. When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, "Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith.

11. Or je vous le dis : beaucoupviendront de l'Orient et de l'Occident, et prendront place au festin avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob,dans le royaume des cieux,

11. I say to you, many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the kingdom of heaven,

12. tandis que les fils du royaumeseront jetés dans les ténèbres extérieures: là seront les pleurs et le grincement de dents."

12. but the children of the kingdom will be driven out into the outer darkness, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth."

13. Et Jésus dit au centurion: " Va, et qu'il te soit fait selon ta foi ! " Et à l'heure mêmele serviteur se trouva guéri.

13. And Jesus said to the centurion, "You may go; as you have believed, let it be done for you." And at that very hour (his) servant was healed.

14. Et Jésus, étantallé dans la maison de Pierre, vit sa belle-mère qui étaitau lit, tenue par la fièvre.

14. Jesus entered the house of Peter, and saw his mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.

15. Il lui toucha la main, et lafièvre la quitta; elle se leva et se mit à le servir.

15. He touched her hand, the fever left her, and she rose and waited on him.

16. Le soir venu, on lui amena quantitéde démoniaques, et il chassa d'un mot les esprits et il guérit tous les malades,

16. When it was evening, they brought him many who were possessed by demons, and he drove out the spirits by a word and cured all the sick,

17. afin que fût accompli cequi a été dit par le prophète Isaïe : Il a prisnos infirmités et s'est chargé de nos maladies.

17. to fulfill what had been said by Isaiah the prophet: "He took away our infirmities and bore our diseases."

18. Jésus, voyant une fouleautour de lui, donna l'ordre de passer à l'autre rive.

18. When Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side.

19. Et un scribe s'approcha et luidit : " Maître, je vous suivrai où que vous alliez. " 20 Jésus lui dit : " Lesrenards ont des tanières et les oiseaux du ciel des abris, maisle Fils de l'homme n'a pas où reposerla tête. "

19. A scribe approached and said to him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."

20. Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head."

21. Un autre, du nombre des disciples,lui dit : " Seigneur, permettez-moi d'aller d'abord ensevelir mon père. "

21. Another of (his) disciples said to him, "Lord, let me go first and bury my father."

22. Mais Jésus lui dit : "Suis-moi, et laisse les morts ensevelir leurs morts. "

22. But Jesus answered him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead."

23. Quand il fut monté dansla barque, ses disciples le suivirent.

23. He got into a boat and his disciples followed him.

24. Et voici que la mer devint trèsagitée, au point que la barque était couverte par les vagues: lui cependant dormait.

24. Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by waves; but he was asleep.

25. Ses disciples s'approchèrent,le réveillèrent et lui dirent : " Seigneur, sauvez-nous,nous périssons ! "

25. They came and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!"

26. Il leur dit : " Pourquoi êtes-vouspeureux, hommes de peu de foi? " Alors il se dressa et commanda avec force aux vents età la mer, et il se fit un grand calme.

26. He said to them, "Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?" Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm.

27. Et les hommes, saisis d'admiration,disaient : " Qui est-il donc, que même les vents et la mer lui obéissent? "

27. The men were amazed and said, "What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey?"

28. Quand il fut arrivé àl'autre rive, au pays des Gadaréniens, vinrent à sa rencontredeux démoniaques qui sortaientdes tombeaux; ils étaient si méchants que personne ne pouvait passer par ce chemin.

28. When he came to the other side, to the territory of the Gadarenes, two demoniacs who were coming from the tombs met him. They were so savage that no one could travel by that road.

29. Et ils se mirent à crier: " Qu'avons-nous affaire ensemble, Fils de Dieu? Etes-vous venu ici pour nous tourmenter avant le temps?"

29. They cried out, "What have you to do with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the appointed time?"

30. Or il y avait, à quelquedistance d'eux, un fort troupeau de porcs qui paissaient.

30. Some distance away a herd of many swine was feeding.

31. Et les démons lui firentcette prière : " Si vous nous chassez, envoyez-nous dans ce troupeau de porcs. "

31. The demons pleaded with him, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of swine."

32. Il leur dit : " Allez. " Ilssortirent et passèrent dans les porcs. Et voici que tout le troupeause précipita par les pentesescarpées dans la mer, et ils périrent dans les eaux.

32. And he said to them, "Go then!" They came out and entered the swine, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea where they drowned.

33. Ceux qui les gardaient s'enfuirent,et ils s'en allèrent dans la ville, où ils racontèrenttout cela et ce qui était arrivéaux démoniaques.

33. The swineherds ran away, and when they came to the town they reported everything, including what had happened to the demoniacs.

34. Et voici que toute la ville sortitau-devant de Jésus, et, l'ayant vu, ils le supplièrent dequitter leur territoire.

34. Thereupon the whole town came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him they begged him to leave their district.
