Ezéchiel, 9

1. Et il cria d'une voix forte à mes oreilles, en ces termes: "Approchez, vous qui veillez sur la ville, chacun son instrument de destruction à la main."

1. Then he cried loud for me to hear: Come, you scourges of the city!

2. Et voici que six hommes arrivèrent par le chemin de la porte supérieure qui regarde le sep-tentrion, chacun ayant en main son instrument pour frapper; et il y avait au milieu d'eux un homme vêtu de lin, portant une écritoire de scribe à la ceinture. Et ils entrèrent et ils se tinrent à côté de l'autel d'airain.

2. With that I saw six men coming from the direction of the upper gate which faces the north, each with a destroying weapon in his hand. In their midst was a man dressed in linen, with a writer's case at his waist. They entered and stood beside the bronze altar.

3. Et la gloire du Dieu d'Israël s'éleva de dessus le Chérubin sur lequel elle se te-nait, et vint vers le seuil de la maison. Et Yahweh appela l'homme vêtu de lin, qui portait une écritoire à la ceinture.

3. Then he called to the man dressed in linen with the writer's case at his waist,

4. Et Yahweh lui dit: "Passe par le milieu de la ville, par le milieu de Jérusalem, et marque d'un Thau le front des hommes qui soupirent et qui gémissent à cause de toutes les abominations qui s'y commet-tent."

4. saying to him: Pass through the city (through Jerusalem) and mark an X on the foreheads of those who moan and groan over all the abominations that are practiced within it.

5. Et il dit aux autres, à mes oreilles: "Passez dans la ville après lui et frappez; que votre oeil n'épargne point, et soyez sans pitié.

5. To the others I heard him say: Pass through the city after him and strike! Do not look on them with pity nor show any mercy!

6. Vieillard, jeune homme, jeune fille, enfant, femme, tuez--les jusqu'à extermination; mais de qui-conque porte sur lui le Thau, n'approchez pas. Et commencez par mon sanctuaire." Et ils commencèrent par les vieillards qui étaient devant la maison.

6. Old men, youths and maidens, women and children--wipe them out! But do not touch any marked with the X; begin at my sanctuary. So they began with the men (the elders) who were in front of the temple.

7. Et il leur dit: " Souillez la maison et remplissez de morts les parvis. Sortez!" Ils sortirent et frappèrent dans la ville.

7. Defile the temple, he said to them, and fill the courts with the slain; then go out and strike in the city.

8. Et quand ils eurent frappé, comme je res-tais seul, je tombai sur ma face, je m'écriai et je dis: "Ah! Seigneur Yahweh, vas-tu détruire tout ce qui reste d'Israël, en répandant ta colère sur Jérusalem?"

8. As they began to strike, I was left alone. I fell prone, crying out, Alas, Lord GOD! Will you destroy all that is left of Israel when you pour out your fury on Jerusalem?"

9. Il me dit: "L'iniquité de la maison d'Israël et de Juda est grande, très grande. Le pays est rempli de sang et la ville est pleine d'injustices, car ils disent: "Yahweh abandonne le pays, Yahweh ne voit rien!

9. He answered me: The sins of the house of Israel are great beyond measure; the land is filled with bloodshed, the city with lawlessness. They think that the LORD has forsaken the land, that he does not see them.

10. Moi aussi, mon oeil n'épargnera point et je serai sans pitié; je ferai retomber leurs oeuvres sur leurs têtes. "

10. I, however, will not look upon them with pity, nor show any mercy. I will bring down their conduct upon their heads.

11. Et voici que l'homme vêtu de lin, qui portait une écritoire à sa ceinture, vint rendre compte en disant: "J'ai fait comme tu m'as commandé."

11. Then I saw the man dressed in linen with the writing case at his waist make his report: "I have done as you ordered."

24. Spirit lifted me up and brought me back to the exiles in Chaldea (in a vision, by God's spirit). Then the vision I had seen left me,

25. and I told the exiles everything the LORD had shown me.
