Joel, 2

1. ¡Toquen la trompeta en Sión! Den la alarma en mi monte santo. ¡Tiemblen todos los habitantes del país, porque está cerca el día de Yavé: ¡Ahí viene!

1. Blow the trumpet in Zion, sound the alarm on my holy mountain! Let all dwellers in the land tremble, for the day of Yahweh is coming. Yes, the day is fast approaching -

2. ¡Día de tinieblas y de oscuridad, día de nubes y de espesa niebla! Ahí viene un pueblo numeroso y fuerte, como jamás hubo otro ni lo habrá después de él, avanza y se extiende como una sombra sobre los cerros.

2. a day of gloom and darkness, a day of clouds and blackness. A vast and mighty army comes, like dawn spreading over the mountain, such as has never occurred before nor will happen again in the future.

3. El fuego devora delante de él, detrás de él la llama abrasa. Delante de él, un jardín de delicias; detrás de él queda un desierto. No hay nada que se pueda salvar.

3. In front a fire devours, behind a flame consumes. The land ahead that appears like a garden soon becomes like a desert, nothing escapes their onslaught.

4. Son semejantes a poderosos caballos y se lanzan como caballerías, saltando por los cerros.

5. Es como el estruendo de carros, como el sonido de la llama de fuego que devora la paja seca. Son como un ejército poderoso en orden de batalla.

5. With the clattering of chariots, they leap over the mountains; with crackling like burning stubble, they charge - a mighty army arrayed for battle.

6. Ante él se estremecen los pueblos, todos los rostros palidecen.

6. Before them nations are appalled, and every face turns pale.

7. Corren como valientes, como asaltantes suben las murallas; cada uno va delante sin equivocarse de camino.

7. They attack like warriors; they scale walls like soldiers. Marching in line, they move onward without swerving from their course,

8. Nadie tropieza con su vecino, cada cual va por su camino. Atacan en medio de las flechas, sin romper las filas.

8. without jostling one another, everyone of them marches straight ahead; amid a hail of arrows they run, they press without breaking ranks.

9. Se arrojan sobre la ciudad, corren sobre la muralla, suben hasta las casas, y por las ventanas entran como ladrones.

9. They rush upon the city; they leap over the walls; they break into the houses, like thieves enter through the windows.

10. Al verlos tiembla la tierra, se estremecen los cielos, el sol y la luna se oscurecen y las estrellas pierden su brillo!

10. Before them the earth shakes and the heavens tremble, the sun and moon grow dark and the stars lose their twinkle.

11. Yavé hace oír su trueno, al frente de su ejército: numerosos son sus soldados, poderosos los que cumplen sus órdenes. Porque grande y temible es el día de Yavé. ¿Quién podrá soportarlo?

11. Yahweh thunders before his army, his vast and mighty forces. The day of Yahweh is exceedingly great, terrible and dreadful - who can endure it?

12. Dice Yavé: «Vuelvan a mí con todo corazón, con ayuno, con llantos y con lamentos.»

12. Yahweh says, "Yet even now, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, weeping and mourning.

13. Rasguen su corazón, y no sus vestidos, y vuelvan a Yavé su Dios, porque él es bondadoso y compasivo; le cuesta enojarse, y grande es su misericordia; envía la desgracia, pero luego perdona.

13. Rend your heart, not your garment. Return to Yahweh, your God - gracious and compassionate." Yahweh is slow to anger, full of kindness, and he repents of having punished.

14. ¡Quién sabe si volverá atrás y nos perdonará y hará producir de nuevo a nuestros campos, de los cuales sacaremos las ofrendas para Yavé!

14. Who knows? Probably he will relent once more and spare some part of the harvest from which we may bring sacred offerings to Yahweh, your God.

15. Toquen la trompeta en Sión, promulguen un ayuno sagrado y llamen a concejo.

15. Blow the trumpet in Zion, proclaim a sacred fast, call a solemn assembly.

16. Congreguen al pueblo, reúnan a los ancianos y que todos se purifiquen. Traigan también a los pequeños y a los niños de pecho, y que los recién casados dejen su cama.

16. Gather the people, sanctify the community, bring together the elders, even the children and infants at the breast. Let the bridegroom leave his bed, and the bride her room.

17. En el patio del santuario lloren los sacerdotes ministros de Yavé y digan: «¡Yavé, perdona a tu pueblo, y no lo entregues al desprecio y a la burla de las naciones! ¿Acaso permitirás que los paganos digan: Dónde está su Dios?»

17. Between the vestibule and the altar, let the priests, Yahweh's ministers, weep and say: Spare your people, Yahweh. Do not humble them or make them an object of scorn among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples: Where is their God?

18. Yavé se mostró lleno de celo por su tierra y tuvo piedad de su pueblo.

18. Yahweh has become jealous for his land; he has had pity on his people.

19. Entonces Yavé respondió y dijo a su pueblo: «Miren que les envío trigo, vino y aceite, de suerte que puedan saciarse, y no los expondré más a los insultos de las naciones.

19. Yahweh has given an answer; he says to them, "I am sending you grain, new wine and oil which will fully satisfy you; never again will you be scorned by the nations.

20. Al que viene del norte se lo quitaré de encima y lo arrojaré a una tierra árida y desierta, su vanguardia hacia el mar oriental, su retaguardia hacia el mar occidental, y subirá su pestilencia y hediondez, porque yo obro maravillas.

20. I will drive far from you the enemy from the North and pursue him towards a land of drought and desolation: his vanguard to the Eastern Sea, his rearguard to the Western Sea. Its stench will rise everywhere. See that I do great things."

21. No temas, tierra; alégrate y regocíjate, porque Yavé obra grandes cosas.

21. Fear not, O earth! exult and rejoice for Yahweh has acted magnificently!

22. No teman, animales del campo, porque los prados del desierto han reverdecido, los árboles han dado su fruto, la higuera y la vid, sus riquezas.

22. Do not be afraid, beasts of the field, for the desert prairies are green again, the trees are with fruit, the fig tree and the vine have yielded their riches.

23. Y ustedes, hijos de Sión, alégrense en Yavé, su Dios, porque él les da la lluvia de otoño para la fertilidad y hace caer agua en otoño y primavera como antes.

23. Sons of Zion, be glad! Rejoice in Yahweh your God, for he has sent you the blessing of autumn rain and showers - the autumn and spring rains as in the past.

24. Las eras se llenarán de trigo puro, los lagares desbordarán de vino y aceite virgen.

24. The threshing-floors will be full of grain, the vats overflowing with new wine and oil.

25. yo los compensaré por los años que les devoró la langosta y el pulgón, el grillo y la oruga, mi gran ejército, que contra ustedes había mandado

25. I will compensate you for the years devastated by grasshoppers, may-bugs, crickets and locusts - the powerful army I sent against you.

26. Comerán y se saciarán, alabarán el Nombre de su Dios, que ha obrado con ustedes de modo maravilloso, mi pueblo no será ya jamás confundido,

26. You will eat and be satisfied, and you will praise the name of Yahweh, your God, who has done wonders for you.

27. y sabrán ustedes que yo estoy en medio de Israel, yo Yavé, su Dios, y no hay otro. Mi pueblo no será ya jamás confundido.

27. And then you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, I, Yahweh your God, no other! Never again will my people be shamed.
