Liber Psalmorum, 114

1. ALLELUIA. In exitu Israel de Aegypto, domus Iacob de populo barbaro,

1. When Israel went forth from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,

2. factus est Iuda sanctuarium eius, Israel potestas eius.

2. Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion.

3. Mare vidit et fugit, Iordanis conversus est retrorsum;

3. The sea looked and fled, Jordan turned back.

4. montes saltaverunt ut arietes, et colles sicut agni ovium. -

4. The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs.

5. Quid est tibi, mare, quod fugisti? Et tu, Iordanis, quia conversus es retrorsum?

5. What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back?

6. Montes, quod saltastis sicut arietes, et colles, sicut agni ovium?

6. O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs?

7. A facie Domini contremisce, terra, a facie Dei Iacob,

7. Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the God of Jacob,

8. qui convertit petram in stagna aquarum et silicem in fontes aquarum.

8. who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water.
