Psalms, 74

1. Unto the end, corrupt not, a psalm of a canticle for Asaph.

1. Maskil. Di Asaf. Perché, o Dio, ci respingi per sempre? Perché divampa la tua ira contro il gregge del tuo pascolo?

2. We will praise thee, O God: we will praise, and we will call upon thy name. We will relate thy wondrous works:

2. Ricòrdati della tua comunità che ti acquistasti da tempo, che riscattasti quale tribù della tua eredità, del monte Sion, dove fissasti la tua dimora.

3. when I shall take a time, I will judge justices.

3. Volgi i tuoi passi a queste rovine irreparabili, verso tutte le devastazioni che il nemico ha fatte nel santuario.

4. The earth is melted, and all that dwell therein: I have established the pillars thereof.

4. Ruggirono i tuoi nemici nel luogo delle tue assemblee; là issarono i loro vessilli.

5. I said to the wicked: Do not act wickedly: and to the sinners: Lift not up the horn.

5. Sembrava che vibrassero le scuri nel fitto d'una selva;

6. Lift not up your horn on high: speak not iniquity against God.

6. abbatterono le sue porte tutto d'un colpo, le frantumarono con ascia e scure.

7. For neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the desert hills:

7. Dettero alle fiamme il tuo santuario, profanarono fino a terra la dimora del tuo nome;

8. for God is the judge. One he putteth down, and another he lifteth up:

8. dicendo in cuor loro: "Distruggiamoli tutto d'un colpo!". Hanno incendiato tutti i luoghi di culto che si trovavano nel paese.

9. for in the hand of the Lord there is a cup of strong wine full of mixture. And he hath poured it out from this to that: but the dregs thereof are not emptied: all the sinners of the earth shall drink.

9. I nostri vessilli non li vediamo più; non c'è più nessun profeta, e fra noi non c'è alcuno che sappia fino a quando.

10. But I will declare for ever: I will sing to the God of Jacob.

10. Fino a quando, o Dio, lancerà insulti l'avversario? Il nemico potrà forse per sempre disprezzare il tuo nome?

11. And I will break all the horns of sinners: but the horns of the just shall be exalted.

11. Perché ritrai la tua mano e trattieni in seno la tua destra?

12.

12. Ma Dio è mio re dai tempi antichi, Colui che opera vittorie nel mezzo del paese.

13.

13. Tu con la tua potenza dividesti il mare, schiacciasti la testa di draghi sulle acque.

14.

14. Tu fracassasti il capo del Leviatàn, lo desti in pasto ai mostri marini.

15.

15. Tu fonti e torrenti facesti scaturire, mentre fiumi perenni facesti seccare.

16.

16. Tuo è il giorno e tua è la notte, tu fissasti la luna e il sole.

17.

17. Tu stabilisti i confini della terra, estate e inverno, tu li formasti.

18.

18. Ricòrdati di questo: il nemico ha vilipeso, o Dio, un popolo stolto ha insultato il tuo nome.

19.

19. Non abbandonare alle fiere l'anima che ti loda; non lasciare in oblio la vita dei tuoi poveri.

20.

20. Sii fedele all'alleanza, poiché nei remoti angoli della terra abbondano i covi della violenza.

21.

21. L'umile non torni confuso; l'afflitto e il povero lodino il tuo nome.

22.

22. Sorgi, o Dio, e difendi la tua causa; ricòrdati degli insulti che verso di te rivolge lo stolto tutto il giorno.

23.

23. Non dimenticare lo strepito dei tuoi nemici, il tumulto sempre crescente di quanti a te si ribellano.
