Deutéronome, 8

1. Vous aurez soin de mettre en pratique tous les commandementsque je vous prescris aujourd'hui, afin que vous viviez, que vousmultipliiez, que vous entriez et que vous preniez possession dupays que Yahweh a juré de donner à vospères.

1. "Be careful to observe all the commandments I enjoin on you today, that you may live and increase, and may enter in and possess the land which the LORD promised on oath to your fathers.

2. Tu te souviendras de tout le chemin par lequel Yahweh, tonDieu, t'a fait marcher pendant ces quarante années dans ledésert, afin de t'humilier, et de t'éprouver, pourconnaître les sentiments de ton coeur, si tu garderas ounon ses commandements.

2. Remember how for forty years now the LORD, your God, has directed all your journeying in the desert, so as to test you by affliction and find out whether or not it was your intention to keep his commandments.

3. Il t'a humilié, il t'a fait avoir faim, et il t'a nourride la manne, que tu ne connaissais pas et que n'avaient pasconnue tes pères, afin de t'apprendre que l'homme ne vitpas de pain seulement, mais que l'homme vit de tout ce qui sortde la bouche de Dieu.

3. He therefore let you be afflicted with hunger, and then fed you with manna, a food unknown to you and your fathers, in order to show you that not by bread alone does man live, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the LORD.

4. Ton vêtement ne s'est pas usé sur toi, et ton piedne s'est pas enflé, pendant ces quaranteannées:

4. The clothing did not fall from you in tatters, nor did your feet swell these forty years.

5. afin que tu reconnaisses en ton coeur que Yahweh, ton Dieu,t'instruit, comme un homme instruit son enfant,

5. So you must realize that the LORD, your God, disciplines you even as a man disciplines his son.

6. et que tu observes les commandements de Yahweh, ton Dieu, enmarchant dans ses voies et en le craignant.

6. "Therefore, keep the commandments of the LORD, your God, by walking in his ways and fearing him.

7. Car Yahweh, ton Dieu, va te faire entrer dans un bon pays, paysde torrents, de sources et d'eaux profondes, qui jaillissent dansles vallées et les montagnes;

7. For the LORD, your God, is bringing you into a good country, a land with streams of water, with springs and fountains welling up in the hills and valleys,

8. pays de froment, d'orge, de vignes, de figuiers et degrenadiers; pays d'oliviers, d'huile et de miel;

8. a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, of olive trees and of honey,

9. pays où tu mangeras du pain en abondance, où tune manqueras de rien; pays dont les pierres sont du fer, et desmontagnes duquel tu tireras l'airain.

9. a land where you can eat bread without stint and where you will lack nothing, a land whose stones contain iron and in whose hills you can mine copper.

10. Tu mangeras et te rassasieras, et tu béniras Yahweh,ton Dieu, pour le bon pays qu'il t'a donné.

10. But when you have eaten your fill, you must bless the LORD, your God, for the good country he has given you.

11. Garde-toi d'oublier Yahweh, ton Dieu, négligeantd'observer ses commandements, ses ordonnances et ses lois que jete prescris aujourd'hui,

11. Be careful not to forget the LORD, your God, by neglecting his commandments and decrees and statutes which I enjoin on you today:

12. de peur que, quand tu mangeras et te rassasieras, que tubâtiras et habiteras de belles maisons,

12. lest, when you have eaten your fill, and have built fine houses and lived in them,

13. que tu verras se multiplier tes boeufs et tes brebis.S'augmenter ton argent, ton or, et s'augmenter tous tesbiens,

13. and have increased your herds and flocks, your silver and gold, and all your property,

14. ton coeur ne s'élève et que tu n'oublies Yahweh,ton Dieu, qui t'a fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, de la maison deservitude;

14. you then become haughty of heart and unmindful of the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery;

15. qui t'a conduit dans ce grand et affreux désert,où il y a des serpents brûlants et des scorpions,dans des lieux arides et sans eau, et qui a fait jaillir pour toide l'eau du rocher le plus dur;

15. who guided you through the vast and terrible desert with its saraph serpents and scorpions, its parched and waterless ground; who brought forth water for you from the flinty rock

16. qui t'a donné à manger dans le désert unemanne inconnue à tes pères, afin de t'humilier etde t'éprouver, pour te faire ensuite du bien;

16. and fed you in the desert with manna, a food unknown to your fathers, that he might afflict you and test you, but also make you prosperous in the end.

17. et que tu ne dises en ton coeur; «C'est ma force et lavigueur de ma main qui m'ont procuré cesrichesses.»

17. Otherwise, you might say to yourselves, 'It is my own power and the strength of my own hand that has obtained for me this wealth.'

18. Souviens-toi de Yahweh, ton Dieu, car c'est lui qui te donnede la force pour les acquérir, afin d'accomplir, comme tule vois aujourd'hui, son alliance qu'il a jurée àtes pères.

18. Remember then, it is the LORD, your God, who gives you the power to acquire wealth, by fulfilling, as he has now done, the covenant which he swore to your fathers.

19. Si, oubliant Yahweh, ton Dieu, il t'arrive d'alleraprès d'autres dieux, de les servir et de te prosternerdevant eux, j'atteste aujourd'hui contre vous que vouspérirez certainement.

19. But if you forget the LORD, your God, and follow other gods, serving and worshiping them, I forewarn you this day that you will perish utterly.

20. Comme les nations que Yahweh fait périr devant vous,ainsi vous périrez, parce que vous n'aurez pasécouté la voix de Yahweh, votre Dieu.

20. Like the nations which the LORD destroys before you, so shall you too perish for not heeding the voice of the LORD, your God.
