1. Voici l'histoire d'Esaü, qui est Edom. Esaü prit ses femmes parmi les filles de Chanaan :

1. These are the descendants of Esau (that is, Edom).

2. Ada, fille d'Elon, le Héthéen; Oolibama, fille d'Ana, fille de Sé­béon, le Hévéen ;

2. Esau took his wives from among the Canaanite women: Adah, daughter of Elon the Hittite; Oholibamah, granddaughter through Anah of Zibeon the Hivite;

3. et Basemath, fille d'Ismaël, soeur de Nabaioth.

4. Ada enfanta à Esaü Eliphaz, Basemath enfanta Rahuel,

5. et Oolibama enfanta Jéhus, Ihélon et Coré. Ce sont là les fils d'Esaü, qui lui naquirent au pays de Chanaan.

6. Esaü prit ses femmes, ses fils et ses filles, et toutes les personnes de sa mai­son, ses troupeaux, tout son bétail et tous les biens qu'il avait acquis dans le pays de Chanaan, et il s'en alla dans un autre pays, loin de Jacob, son frère.

6. Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock comprising various animals and all the property he had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went to the land of Seir, out of the way of his brother Jacob.

7. Car leurs biens étaient trop considérables pour qu'ils demeurassent ensemble, et le pays où ils séjournaient ne pouvait leur suffire à cause de leurs troupeaux.

7. Their possessions had become too great for them to dwell together, and the land in which they were staying could not support them because of their livestock.

8. Esaü s'établit dans la montagne de Séir; Esaü est Edorn.

8. So Esau settled in the highlands of Seir. (Esau is Edom.)

9. Voici la postérité d'Esaü, père d'Edom, dans la montagne de Séir.

9. These are the descendants of Esau, ancestor of the Edomites, in the highlands of Seir.

10. Voici les noms des fils d'Esaü : Eliphaz, fils d'Aria, femme d'Esaü ; Rahuel, fils de Basemath, femme d'Esaü.

10. These are the names of Esau's sons: Eliphaz, son of Esau's wife Adah; and Reuel, son of Esau's wife Basemath.

11. - Les fils d'Eliphaz furent : Théman, Omar, Sépho, Gatham et Cénez.

11. The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.

12. Thamna fut concubine d'Eliphaz, fils d'Esaü, et elle enfanta Amalech à Eliphaz. Ce sont là les fils d'Aria, femme d'Esaü.

12. (Esau's son Eliphaz had a concubine Timna, and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz.) These are the descendants of Esau's wife Adah.

13. - Voici les fils de Rahuel : Nahath, Zara, Sam­ma et Méza. Ce sont là les fils de Base­math, femme d'Esaü.

13. The sons of Reuel were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the descendants of Esau's wife Basemath.

14. - Voici les fils d'Oolibama, fille d'Ana, fille de Sébéon, femme d'Esaü : elle enfanta à Esaü Jé­hus, Ihélon et Coré.

14. The descendants of Esau's wife Oholibamah--granddaughter through Anah of Zibeon--whom she bore to Esau were Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.

15. Voici les chefs des tribus issues des fils d'Esaü. Fils d'Eliphaz, premier-né d'Esaü le chef Théman, le chef Omar, le chef Sépho,

15. The following are the clans of Esau's descendants. The descendants of Eliphaz, Esau's first-born: the clans of Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz,

16. le chef Cénez, le chef Coré, le chef Gatham, le chef Amalech. Ce sont là les chefs issus d'Eliphaz, au pays d'Edom ; ce sont là les fils d'Ada.

16. Korah, Gatam, and Amalek. These are the clans of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; they are descended from Adah.

17. - Fils de Rahuel, fils d'Esaü : le chef Nahath, le chef Zara, le chef Somma et le chef Méza. Ce sont là les chefs issus de Rahuel, au pays d'Edom ; ce sont là les fils de Basemath, femme d'Esaü.

17. The descendants of Esau's son Reuel: the clans of Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the clans of Reuel in the land of Edom; they are descended from Esau's wife Basemath.

18. The descendants of Esau's wife Oholibamah: the clans of Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. These are the clans of Esau's wife Oholibamah, daughter of Anah.

19. - Ce sont là les fils d'Esaü, et ce sont là leurs chefs ; c'est Edom.

19. Such are the descendants of Esau (that is, Edom) according to their clans.

20. Voici les fils de Séir, le Horréen, qui habitaient le pays : Lotan, Sobal, Sé­béon, Ana, Dison, Eser et Disan.

20. The following are the descendants of Seir the Horite, the original settlers in the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

21. Ce sont là les chefs des Horréens, fils de Séir, au pays d'Edom.

21. Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; they are the Horite clans descended from Seir, in the land of Edom.

22. - Les fils de Lotan furent Hori et Héman, et Thamma était soeur de Lotan.

22. Lotan's descendants were Hori and Hemam, and Lotan's sister was Timna.

23. -Voici les fils de Sobal: Alvan, Manahat, Ebal, Sépho et Onam.

23. Shobal's descendants were Alvan, Mahanath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.

24. - Voici les fils de Sébéon : Aja et Ana. C'est cet Ana qui trouva les sources chaudes dans le désert, en faisant paître les ânes de Sébéon, son père.

24. Zibeon's descendants were Aiah and Anah. (He is the Anah who found water in the desert while he was pasturing the asses of his father Zibeon.)

25. - Voici les enfants d'Ana : Dison et Oolibama, fille d'Ana.

25. The descendants of Anah were Dishon and Oholibamah, daughter of Anah.

26. - Voici les fils de Dison: Ham­dan, Eséban, jéthram et Charan.

26. The descendants of Dishon were Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran.

27. - Voici les fils d'Eser : Balan, Zavan et Acan.

27. The descendants of Ezer were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan.

28. -Voici les fils de Disan : Hus et Aram.

28. The descendants of Dishan were Uz and Aran.

29. Voici les chefs des Horréens : le chef Lotan, le chef Sobal, le chef Sébéon, le chef Ana, le chef Dison, le chef Eser, le chef Disan.

29. These are the Horite clans: the clans of Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

30. Ce sont là les chefs des Hor­réens, chacun de leurs chefs au pays de Séir.

30. Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; they were the clans of the Horites, clan by clan, in the land of Seir.

31. Voici les rois qui ont régné dans le pays d'Edom, avant qu'un roi régnât sur les enfants d'Israël :

31. The following are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the Israelites.

32. Béla, fils de Béor, régna en Edom, et le nom de sa ville était Denaba.

32. Bela, son of Beor, became king in Edom; the name of his city was Dinhabah.

33. - Béla mourut, et à sa place régna Jobab, fils de Zara, de Bosra.

33. When Bela died, Jobab, son of Zerah, from Bozrah, succeeded him as king.

34. - Jobab mourut, et à sa place régna Husam, du pays des Thémanites.

34. When Jobab died, Husham, from the land of the Temanites, succeeded him as king. He defeated the Midianites in the country of Moab; the name of his city was Avith.

35. -Husam mourut, et à sa place régna Adad, fils de Badad, qui défit Madian dans les champs de Moab ; le nom de sa ville était Avith.

35. When Husham died, Hadad, son of Bedad, succeeded him as king.

36. - Hadad mourut, et à sa place régna Semla, de Masréca.

36. When Hadad died, Samlah, from Masrekah, succeeded him as king.

37. -Semla mourut, et à sa place régna Saül, de Rohoboth sur le fleuve.

37. When Samlah died, Shaul, from Rehoboth-on-the-River, succeeded him as king.

38. -Saül mourut, et à sa place régna Balanan, fils d'Achor.

38. When Shaul died, Baal-hanan, son of Achbor, succeeded him as king.

39. - Balanan, fils d'Achor, mourut, et à sa place régna Hadar ; le nom de sa ville était Phaü, et le nom de sa femme Méétabel, fille de Matred, fille de Mézaab.

39. When Baal-hanan died, Hadar succeeded him as king; the name of his city was Pau. (His wife's name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred, son of Mezahab.)

40. Voici les noms des chefs issus d'Esaü, selon leurs tribus, leurs territoires et d'après leurs noms :

40. The following are the names of the clans of Esau individually according to their subdivisions and localities: the clans of Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,

41. le chef Thamma, le chef Alva, le chef jétheth, le chef Oolibarra, le chef Ela, le chef Phinon,
