Revelation, 13

1. Then I saw a beast emerge from the sea: it had seven heads and ten horns, with a coronet on each of its ten horns, and its heads were marked with blasphemous titles.

1. Und ich sah: Ein Tier stieg aus dem Meer, mit zehn Hörnern und sieben Köpfen. Auf seinen Hörnern trug es zehn Diademe und auf seinen Köpfen Namen, die eine Gotteslästerung waren.

2. I saw that the beast was like a leopard, with paws like a bear and a mouth like a lion; the dragon had handed over to it his own power and his throne and his immense authority.

2. Das Tier, das ich sah, glich einem Panther; seine Füße waren wie die Tatzen eines Bären und sein Maul wie das Maul eines Löwen. Und der Drache hatte ihm seine Gewalt übergeben, seinen Thron und seine große Macht.

3. I saw that one of its heads seemed to have had a fatal wound but that this deadly injury had healed and the whole world had marvelled and followed the beast.

3. Einer seiner Köpfe sah aus wie tödlich verwundet; aber die tödliche Wunde wurde geheilt. Und die ganze Erde sah dem Tier staunend nach.

4. They prostrated themselves in front of the dragon because he had given the beast his authority; and they prostrated themselves in front of the beast, saying, 'Who can compare with the beast? Who can fight against it?'

4. Die Menschen warfen sich vor dem Drachen nieder, weil er seine Macht dem Tier gegeben hatte; und sie beteten das Tier an und sagten: Wer ist dem Tier gleich und wer kann den Kampf mit ihm aufnehmen?

5. The beast was allowed to mouth its boasts and blasphemies and to be active for forty-two months;

5. Und es wurde ermächtigt, mit seinem Maul anmaßende Worte und Lästerungen auszusprechen; es wurde ihm Macht gegeben, dies zweiundvierzig Monate zu tun.

6. and it mouthed its blasphemies against God, against his name, his heavenly Tent and all those who are sheltered there.

6. Das Tier öffnete sein Maul, um Gott und seinen Namen zu lästern, seine Wohnung und alle, die im Himmel wohnen.

7. It was allowed to make war against the saints and conquer them, and given power over every race, people, language and nation;

7. Und es wurde ihm erlaubt, mit den Heiligen zu kämpfen und sie zu besiegen. Es wurde ihm auch Macht gegeben über alle Stämme, Völker, Sprachen und Nationen.

8. and all people of the world will worship it, that is, everybody whose name has not been written down since the foundation of the world in the sacrificial Lamb's book of life.

8. Alle Bewohner der Erde fallen nieder vor ihm: alle, deren Name nicht seit der Erschaffung der Welt eingetragen ist ins Lebensbuch des Lammes, das geschlachtet wurde.

9. Let anyone who can hear, listen:

9. Wenn einer Ohren hat, so höre er.

10. Those for captivity to captivity; those for death by the sword to death by the sword. This is why the saints must have perseverance and faith.

10. Wer zur Gefangenschaft bestimmt ist, geht in die Gefangenschaft. Wer mit dem Schwert getötet werden soll, wird mit dem Schwert getötet. Hier muss sich die Standhaftigkeit und die Glaubenstreue der Heiligen bewähren.

11. Then I saw a second beast, emerging from the ground; it had two horns like a lamb, but made a noise like a dragon.

11. Und ich sah: Ein anderes Tier stieg aus der Erde herauf. Es hatte zwei Hörner wie ein Lamm, aber es redete wie ein Drache.

12. This second beast exercised all the power of the first beast, on its behalf making the world and all its people worship the first beast, whose deadly injury had healed.

12. Die ganze Macht des ersten Tieres übte es vor dessen Augen aus. Es brachte die Erde und ihre Bewohner dazu, das erste Tier anzubeten, dessen tödliche Wunde geheilt war.

13. And it worked great miracles, even to calling down fire from heaven onto the earth while people watched.

13. Es tat große Zeichen; sogar Feuer ließ es vor den Augen der Menschen vom Himmel auf die Erde fallen.

14. Through the miracles which it was allowed to do on behalf of the first beast, it was able to lead astray the people of the world and persuade them to put up a statue in honour of the beast that had been wounded by the sword and still lived.

14. Es verwirrte die Bewohner der Erde durch die Wunderzeichen, die es im Auftrag des Tieres tat; es befahl den Bewohnern der Erde, ein Standbild zu errichten zu Ehren des Tieres, das mit dem Schwert erschlagen worden war und doch wieder zum Leben kam.

15. It was allowed to breathe life into this statue, so that the statue of the beast was able to speak, and to have anyone who refused to worship the statue of the beast put to death.

15. Es wurde ihm Macht gegeben, dem Standbild des Tieres Lebensgeist zu verleihen, sodass es auch sprechen konnte und bewirkte, dass alle getötet wurden, die das Standbild des Tieres nicht anbeteten.

16. It compelled everyone -- small and great alike, rich and poor, slave and citizen -- to be branded on the right hand or on the forehead,

16. Die Kleinen und die Großen, die Reichen und die Armen, die Freien und die Sklaven, alle zwang es, auf ihrer rechten Hand oder ihrer Stirn ein Kennzeichen anzubringen.

17. and made it illegal for anyone to buy or sell anything unless he had been branded with the name of the beast or with the number of its name.

17. Kaufen oder verkaufen konnte nur, wer das Kennzeichen trug: den Namen des Tieres oder die Zahl seines Namens.

18. There is need for shrewdness here: anyone clever may interpret the number of the beast: it is the number of a human being, the number 666.

18. Hier braucht man Kenntnis. Wer Verstand hat, berechne den Zahlenwert des Tieres. Denn es ist die Zahl eines Menschennamens; seine Zahl ist sechshundertsechsundsechzig.
