Juges, 13

1. Les enfants d'Israël firent encore ce qui est mal aux yeuxde Yahweh, et Yahweh les livra entre les mains des Philistins,pendant quarante ans.

1. The Israelites again offended the LORD, who therefore delivered them into the power of the Philistines for forty years.

2. Il y avait un homme de Saraa, de la famille des Danites,nommé Manué ; sa femme était stérile,et n'avait pas en-fanté.

2. There was a certain man from Zorah, of the clan of the Danites, whose name was Manoah. His wife was barren and had borne no children.

3. L'Ange de Yahweh apparut à la femme et lui dit : "Voicidonc, tu es stérile et sans enfant; mais tu concevras etenfanteras un fils.

3. An angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, "Though you are barren and have had no children, yet you will conceive and bear a son.

4. Et maintenant, prends bien garde, ne bois ni vin ni liqueurforte et ne mange rien d'impur,

4. Now, then, be careful to take no wine or strong drink and to eat nothing unclean.

5. car tu vas concevoir et enfanter un fils. Le rasoir ne passerapoint sur sa tête, car cet enfant sera nazaréen deDieu, dès le sein de sa mère, et c'est lui quicommencera à délivrer Israël de la main desPhilistins."

5. As for the son you will conceive and bear, no razor shall touch his head, for this boy is to be consecrated to God from the womb. It is he who will begin the deliverance of Israel from the power of the Philistines."

6. La femme alla dire à son mari : "Un homme de Dieu estvenu vers moi; il avait l'aspect d'un ange de Dieu, un aspectredoutable. Je ne lui ai pas de-mandé d'où ilétait, et il ne m'a pas fait connaître son nom;

6. The woman went and told her husband, "A man of God came to me; he had the appearance of an angel of God, terrible indeed. I did not ask him where he came from, nor did he tell me his name.

7. mais il m'a dit "Tu vas concevoir et enfanter un fils; etmaintenant, ne bois ni vin ni liqueur forte, et ne mange riend'impur, parce que cet enfant sera nazaréen de Dieudès le sein de sa mère, jusqu'au jour de samort."

7. But he said to me, 'You will be with child and will bear a son. So take neither wine nor strong drink, and eat nothing unclean. For the boy shall be consecrated to God from the womb, until the day of his death.'"

8. Alors Manué invoqua Yahweh et dit : "Je vous prie,Seigneur, que l'homme de Dieu que vous avez envoyé vienneencore vers nous, et qu'il nous enseigne ce que nous devons fairepour l'enfant qui naîtra"

8. Manoah then prayed to the LORD. "O LORD, I beseech you," he said, "may the man of God whom you sent, return to us to teach us what to do for the boy who will be born."

9. Dieu exauça la prière de Ma-nué, et l'Angede Dieu vint encore vers la femme; elle était assise dansun champ, et Manué, son mari, n'était pas avecelle.

9. God heard the prayer of Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she was sitting in the field. Since her husband Manoah was not with her,

10. La femme courut aussitôt informer son mari et lui dit :"Voici, l'homme qui est venu l'autre jour vers moi m'estapparu."

10. the woman ran in haste and told her husband. "The man who came to me the other day has appeared to me," she said to him;

11. Manué se leva et, suivant sa femme, il alla versl'homme et lui dit : "Est-ce toi qui as parlé àcette femme? "

11. so Manoah got up and followed his wife. When he reached the man, he said to him, "Are you the one who spoke to my wife?" "Yes," he answered.

12. Il répon-dit: "C'est moi." Manué dit :"Maintenant, quand ta parole s'accomplira, que faudra-t-ilobserver à l'égard de cet enfant, et qu'y aura-t-ilà faire pour lui?"

12. Then Manoah asked, "Now, when that which you say comes true, what are we expected to do for the boy?"

13. L'ange de Yahweh répondit à Manué : "Lafemme s'abstiendra de tout ce que je lui ai dit :

13. The angel of the LORD answered Manoah, "Your wife is to abstain from all the things of which I spoke to her.

14. elle ne mangera rien de ce qui provient de la vigne, elle neboira ni vin ni liqueur forte et elle ne mangera rien d'impur :tout ce que je lui ai prescrit, elle l'observera."

14. She must not eat anything that comes from the vine, nor take wine or strong drink, nor eat anything unclean. Let her observe all that I have commanded her."

15. Manué dit à l'Ange de Yahweh : "Permets que nousle retenions et que nous t'apprêtions un chevreau."

15. Then Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "Can we persuade you to stay, while we prepare a kid for you?"

16. L'Ange de Yahweh répondit à Manué "Quandtu me retiendrais, je ne mangerais pas de ton mets ; mais si tuveux préparer un holo-causte, à Yahweh, offre-le."-- Manué ne savait pas que c'était l'Ange de Yahweh-

16. But the angel of the LORD answered Manoah, "Although you press me, I will not partake of your food. But if you will, you may offer a holocaust to the LORD."Not knowing that it was the angel of the LORD,

17. Et Manué dit à l'Ange de Yahweh : "Quel est tonnom, afin que nous t'honorions, quand ta paroles'accomplira?"

17. Manoah said to him, "What is your name, that we may honor you when your words come true?"

18. L'Ange de Yahweh lui répondit : "Pourquoim'interroges-tu sur mon nom? Il est Merveilleux."

18. The angel of the LORD answered him, "Why do you ask my name, which is mysterious?"

19. Manué prit le chevreau avec l'oblation et l'offrità Yahweh sur le rocher, et Yahweh fit un prodige pendantque Manué et sa femme regardaient.

19. Then Manoah took the kid with a cereal offering and offered it on the rock to the LORD, whose works are mysteries. While Manoah and his wife were looking on,

20. Comme la flamme montait de dessus l'autel vers le ciel, l'Angede Yahweh monta dans la flamme de l'au-tel. A cette vue,Manué et sa terrine tom-bèrent la face contreterre.

20. as the flame rose to the sky from the altar, the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. When Manoah and his wife saw this, they fell prostrate to the ground;

21. Et l'Ange de Yahweh n'apparut plus à Manué età sa femme. Alors Manué comprit que c'étaitl'Ange de Yahweh.

21. but the angel of the LORD was seen no more by Manoah and his wife. Then Manoah, realizing that it was the angel of the LORD,

22. Et Manué dit à sa femme : "Nous allons mourir,car nous avons vu Dieu."

22. said to his wife, "We will certainly die, for we have seen God."

23. Sa femme lui répondit : "Si Yahweh voulait nous fairemourir, il n'aurait pas reçu de nos mains l'holocauste etl'oblation, il ne nous au-rait pas fait voir tout cela, il nenous aurait pas fait entendre aujourd'hui de pareilleschoses."

23. But his wife pointed out to him, "If the LORD had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a holocaust and cereal offering from our hands! Nor would he have let us see all this just now, or hear what we have heard."

24. La femme enfanta un fils et lui donna le nom de Samson.L'enfant grandit et Yahweh le bénit;

24. The woman bore a son and named him Samson. The boy grew up and the LORD blessed him;

25. l'esprit de Yahweh commença à le pousserà Machanêh-Dan, entre Saraa et Esthaol.

25. the spirit of the LORD first stirred him in Mahaneh-dan, which is between Zorah and Eshtaol.
