Haggai, 1

1. In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of Yahweh was addressed through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel governor of Judah and to Joshua son of Jehozadak the high priest as follows,

1. Im zweiten Jahr des Königs Darius erging am ersten Tag des sechsten Monats das Wort des Herrn durch den Propheten Haggai an den Statthalter von Juda, Serubbabel, den Sohn Schealtiëls, und an den Hohenpriester Jeschua, den Sohn des Jozadak:

2. 'Yahweh Sabaoth says this, "This people says: The time has not yet come to rebuild the Temple of Yahweh." '

2. So spricht der Herr der Heere: Dieses Volk sagt: Noch ist die Zeit nicht gekommen, das Haus des Herrn aufzubauen.

3. (And the word of Yahweh was addressed through the prophet Haggai, as follows,)

3. Da erging das Wort des Herrn durch den Propheten Haggai:

4. 'Is this a time for you to live in your panelled houses, when this House lies in ruins?

4. Ist etwa die Zeit gekommen, dass ihr in euren getäfelten Häusern wohnt, während dieses Haus in Trümmern liegt?

5. So now, Yahweh Sabaoth says this, "Think carefully about your behaviour.

5. Nun aber spricht der Herr der Heere: Überlegt doch, wie es euch geht.

6. You have sown much and harvested little; you eat but never have enough, drink but never have your fill, put on clothes but feel no warmth. The wage-earner gets his wages only to put them in a bag with a hole in it."

6. Ihr sät viel und erntet wenig; ihr esst und werdet nicht satt; ihr trinkt, aber zum Betrinken reicht es euch nicht; ihr zieht Kleider an, aber sie halten nicht warm und wer etwas verdient, verdient es für einen löcherigen Beutel.

7. Yahweh Sabaoth says this, "Think carefully about your behaviour.

7. So spricht der Herr der Heere: Überlegt also, wie es euch geht.

8. Go up into the hills, fetch timber and rebuild the House; and I shall take pleasure in it and manifest my glory there -- Yahweh says.

8. Geht ins Gebirge, schafft Holz herbei und baut den Tempel wieder auf! Das würde mir gefallen und mich ehren, spricht der Herr.

9. The abundance you expected proved to be little. When you brought the harvest in, I blasted it. And why? - Yahweh Sabaoth declares. Because while my House lies in ruins, each of you is busy with his own house.

9. Ihr habt viel erhofft und doch nur wenig geerntet; und wenn ihr es einbrachtet, blies ich es weg. Warum wohl? - Spruch des Herrn der Heere. Weil mein Haus in Trümmern liegt, während jeder von euch für sein eigenes Haus rennt.

10. That is why the sky has withheld the rain and the earth withheld its yield.

10. Deshalb hält der Himmel über euch den Tau zurück, und die Erde hält ihren Ertrag zurück.

11. I have called down drought on land and hills, on grain, on new wine, on olive oil and on all the produce of the ground, on humans and animals and all your labours." '

11. Ich rief die Dürre über das Land und über die Berge, über das Getreide, über den Wein und das Öl, über alles, was der Boden hervorbringt, über Mensch und Vieh und über alle Arbeit eurer Hände.

12. Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jehozadak the high priest and the entire remnant of the people, paid attention to the voice of Yahweh their God and to the words of the prophet Haggai, which Yahweh their God had sent him to deliver. And the people were filled with fear before Yahweh.

12. Serubbabel, der Sohn Schealtiëls, und der Hohepriester Jeschua, der Sohn des Jozadak, und alle, die vom Volk noch übrig waren, hörten auf die Stimme des Herrn, ihres Gottes, und auf die Worte des Propheten Haggai; denn der Herr, ihr Gott, hatte ihn gesandt und das Volk fürchtete sich vor dem Herrn.

13. Haggai, the messenger of Yahweh, then passed on Yahweh's message to the people, 'I am with you -- declares Yahweh.'

13. Darum verkündete Haggai, der Bote des Herrn, dem Volk im Auftrag des Herrn: Ich bin bei euch - Spruch des Herrn.

14. And Yahweh roused the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel governor of Judah, the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak the high priest and the spirit of the entire remnant of the people; they came and set to work in the Temple of Yahweh Sabaoth, their God.

14. Und der Herr weckte den Geist des Statthalters von Juda, Serubbabel, des Sohnes Schealtiëls, und den Geist des Hohenpriesters Jeschua, des Sohnes des Jozadak, und den Geist all derer, die vom Volk noch übrig waren, sodass sie kamen und die Arbeit am Tempel ihres Gottes, des Herrn der Heere, aufnahmen;
