Chapter 3 of Colossians deals mainly on how Christians should live their lives in union with Christ, setting aside things in the world and seeking things from above. Romans 12:2: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but become the renewal of your mind, so that they are able to experience and prove the good, pleasant and perfect will of God." This verse talks about the importance of moving away from things in the world and becoming through the renewal of the mind so that we can know and do God's will.
1 John 2:15-16: "Do not love the world or what is there. If someone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. " This verse also talks about the importance of moving away from things in the world and loving God above all.

Colossians 3:23-24: "Whatever they do, do with all their hearts, as for the Lord, and not to men, knowing that they will receive the reward of inheritance. " This verse talks about the importance of worrying more about internal character and virtues than external appearance.
