Zephaniah, 2

1. Gather together, gather together, nations without shame,

1. Tut euch zusammen, sammelt euch, Volk ohne Scham,

2. before you are dispersed like chaff which disappears in a day; before Yahweh's burning anger overtakes you (before the Day of Yahweh's anger overtakes you).

2. ehe der Ratschluß sich erfüllt (wie Spreu geht der Tag vorüber!), ehe der grimmige Zorn des HERRN über euch kommt, ehe der Tag des Zornes des HERRN euch ereilt!

3. Seek Yahweh, all you humble of the earth, who obey his commands. Seek uprightness, seek humility: you may perhaps find shelter on the Day of Yahweh's anger.

3. Suchet den HERRN, alle ihr Demütigen im Lande, die ihr sein Recht übet! Suchet Gerechtigkeit, befleißiget euch der Demut; vielleicht werdet ihr Bergung finden am Tage des Zornes des HERRN!

4. For Gaza will be abandoned and Ashkelon reduced to ruins; Ashdod will be driven out in broad daylight and Ekron uprooted.

4. Denn Gaza wird verlassen und Askalon verödet werden, Asdod soll am hellen Mittag fortgetrieben und Ekron ausgerottet werden.

5. Disaster to the members of the coastal league, to the nation of the Cherethites! This is the word of Yahweh against you: I shall subdue you, land of the Philistines, I shall destroy you till there are no inhabitants left;

5. Wehe den Bewohnern der Meeresküste, dem Kretervolk! Das Wort des HERRN ergeht wider dich, Kanaan, du Philisterland: Ich will dich also zu Grunde richten, daß niemand mehr da wohnen soll!

6. and the coastal league will be reduced to pasture land, to grazing grounds for shepherds and folds for sheep;

6. Und es soll der Landstrich am Meere zu Hirtenwohnungen und Schafhürden werden;

7. and the league will belong to the remnant of the House of Judah; they will pasture their flocks there, at night they will rest in the houses of Ashkelon; for, when Yahweh their God has punished them, he will restore their fortunes.

7. und dieser Landstrich soll den Übriggebliebenen vom Hause Juda als Erbteil zufallen, daß sie darauf weiden und sich des Abends in den Häusern von Askalon lagern sollen, denn der HERR, ihr Gott, wird sie heimsuchen und ihr Gefängnis wenden.

8. I have heard the taunt of Moab and the insults of the Ammonites, as they taunted my people and boasted of their own domains.

8. Ich habe die Beschimpfung Moabs gehört und die Lästerungen der Kinder Ammon, womit sie mein Volk geschmäht und sich wider ihr Gebiet gerühmt haben.

9. For this, as I live -- declares Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel -- Moab will become like Sodom and the Ammonites like Gomorrah: a realm of nettles, a heap of salt, a desolation for ever. What is left of my people will plunder them, the survivors of my nation will take their heritage.

9. Darum, so wahr ich lebe, spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels, soll Moab wie Sodom und die Kinder Ammon wie Gomorra werden, nämlich ein Besitz der Nesseln und eine Salzgrube und eine ewige Wüstenei; die Übriggebliebenen meines Volkes sollen sie berauben und der Rest meiner Nation sie beerben.

10. This will be the price of their pride for having taunted and boasted over the people of Yahweh Sabaoth.

10. Solches soll ihnen widerfahren für ihren Stolz, daß sie gelästert und wider das Volk des HERRN der Heerscharen großgetan haben.

11. Yahweh will be fearsome to them, for he will scatter all the gods of the earth, and they will bow down to him, each from his own place -- all the islands of the nations.

11. Furchtbar wird der HERR über ihnen sein; denn er wird allen Göttern auf Erden ein Ende machen, und es werden ihn anbeten alle Inseln der Heiden, jedermann von seinem Orte aus;

12. You Ethiopians too will be run through by my sword.

12. auch ihr Kuschiten, die mein Schwert verwundet hat.

13. He will raise his hand against the north and bring Assyria down in ruins; he will make Nineveh a waste, as dry as a desert.

13. Er wird auch seine Hand nach Norden ausstrecken und wird Assur vernichten und Ninive zur Wüste machen, dürr wie eine Steppe;

14. Flocks will rest inside there, so will wild animals; pelican and porcupine will nest round her cornices at night; the owl will hoot at the window and the raven croak on the doorstep -- for the cedar has been torn down.

14. daß sich mitten darin Herden lagern werden, Tiere aller Art; Pelikan und Rohrdommel werden auf ihren Säulenknäufen übernachten, [Vogel-]geschrei wird in den Fenstern ertönen, auf der Schwelle wird ein Schutthaufen liegen, da das Zedernwerk bloßgelegt ist.

15. This is what the city will be like, once living happy and carefree and thinking to itself, 'I have no rival -- not I!' And what will it be now? A ruin, a lair for wild beasts to rest in, and everyone who passes by will whistle and throw up his hands.

15. Das ist die lustige Stadt, die so sicher wohnte, die in ihrem Herzen sprach: «Ich und keine sonst!» Wie ist sie zur Wildnis geworden, zum Lagerplatz der Tiere! Wer vorübergeht, zischt über sie und schwenkt seine Hand.
