Psalms, 14

1. [For the choirmaster Of David] The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God.' Their deeds are corrupt and vile, not one of them does right.

1. [Für den Chormeister. Von David.] Die Toren sagen in ihrem Herzen: / «Es gibt keinen Gott.» Sie handeln verwerflich und schnöde; / da ist keiner, der Gutes tut.

2. Yahweh looks down from heaven at the children of Adam. To see if a single one is wise, a single one seeks God.

2. Der Herr blickt vom Himmel herab auf die Menschen, / ob noch ein Verständiger da ist, der Gott sucht.

3. All have turned away, all alike turned sour, not one of them does right, not a single one.

3. Alle sind sie abtrünnig und verdorben, / keiner tut Gutes, auch nicht ein Einziger.

4. Are they not aware, all these evil-doers? They are devouring my people, this is the bread they eat, and they never call to Yahweh.

4. Haben denn all die Übeltäter keine Einsicht? / Sie verschlingen mein Volk. Sie essen das Brot des Herrn, / doch seinen Namen rufen sie nicht an.

5. They will be gripped with fear, where there is no need for fear, for God takes the side of the upright;

5. Es trifft sie Furcht und Schrecken; / denn Gott steht auf der Seite der Gerechten.

6. you may mock the plans of the poor, but Yahweh is their refuge.

6. Die Pläne der Armen wollt ihr vereiteln, / doch ihre Zuflucht ist der Herr.

7. Who will bring from Zion salvation for Israel? When Yahweh brings his people home, what joy for Jacob, what happiness for Israel!

7. Ach, käme doch vom Zion Hilfe für Israel! / Wenn einst der Herr das Geschick seines Volkes wendet, / dann jubelt Jakob, dann freut sich Israel.
