Ezekiel, 9

1. Then he shouted loudly for me to hear, 'The scourges of the city are approaching, each carrying his weapon of destruction!'

1. Und er schrie mir laut in die Ohren: Das Strafgericht über die Stadt ist nahe. Jeder soll sein Werkzeug zum Zertrümmern in die Hand nehmen.

2. Immediately six men advanced from the upper north gate, each holding a deadly weapon. Among them was a man dressed in linen, with a scribe's ink-horn in his belt. They came in and halted in front of the bronze altar.

2. Da kamen sechs Männer vom oberen Tor, das im Norden liegt. Jeder hatte sein Werkzeug zum Zertrümmern in der Hand. Unter ihnen war auch ein Mann, der ein leinenes Gewand anhatte; an seinem Gürtel hing Schreibzeug. Sie kamen herein und stellten sich neben den Altar aus Bronze.

3. The glory of the God of Israel rose from above the winged creature where it had been, towards the threshold of the Temple. He called to the man dressed in linen with a scribe's ink-horn in his belt

3. Die Herrlichkeit des Gottes Israels schwebte von den Kerubim, über denen sie war, hinüber zur Schwelle des Tempels. Er rief den Mann, der das leinene Gewand anhatte und an dessen Gürtel das Schreibzeug hing.

4. and Yahweh said to him, 'Go all through the city, all through Jerusalem, and mark a cross on the foreheads of all who grieve and lament over all the loathsome practices in it.'

4. Der Herr sagte zu ihm: Geh mitten durch die Stadt Jerusalem und schreib ein T auf die Stirn aller Männer, die über die in der Stadt begangenen Gräueltaten seufzen und stöhnen.

5. I heard him say to the others, 'Follow him through the city and strike. Not one glance of pity; show no mercy;

5. Und ich hörte, wie er zu den anderen sagte: Geht hinter ihm her durch die Stadt und schlagt zu! Euer Auge soll kein Mitleid zeigen, gewährt keine Schonung!

6. old men, young men, girls, children, women, kill and exterminate them all. But do not touch anyone with a cross on his forehead. Begin at my sanctuary.' So they began with the old men who were in the Temple.

6. Alt und jung, Mädchen, Kinder und Frauen sollt ihr erschlagen und umbringen. Doch von denen, die das T auf der Stirn haben, dürft ihr keinen anrühren. Beginnt in meinem Heiligtum! Da begannen sie bei den Ältesten, die vor dem Tempel standen.

7. He said to them, 'Defile the Temple; fill the courts with corpses; then go out!' They went out and hacked their way through the city.

7. Er sagte zu ihnen: Macht den Tempel unrein, füllt seine Höfe mit Erschlagenen! Dann geht hinaus und schlagt in der Stadt zu!

8. While they were hacking them down, I was left alone; I fell on my face, crying out, 'Ah, Lord Yahweh, are you going to annihilate all that is left of Israel by venting your fury on Jerusalem?'

8. Sie schlugen zu und ich allein blieb übrig; da fiel ich nieder auf mein Gesicht und schrie: Ach, Herr und Gott, willst du deinen ganzen Zorn über Jerusalem ausschütten und auch noch den letzten Rest Israels vernichten?

9. He said, 'The guilt of the House of Israel and Judah is immense; the country is full of bloodshed, the city full of perversity, for they say, "Yahweh has abandoned the country, Yahweh cannot see."

9. Er sagte zu mir: Die Schuld des Hauses Israel und des Hauses Juda ist groß, ja übergroß. Das Land ist voll Blutschuld, die Stadt ist voll Unrecht. Sie sagen: Der Herr sieht es nicht; der Herr hat das Land verlassen.

10. Then, I too shall neither give one glance of pity nor show any mercy. I shall repay them for what they have done.'

10. Darum zeigt mein Auge kein Mitleid und ich übe keine Schonung. Ihr Verhalten lasse ich auf sie selbst zurückfallen.

11. The man dressed in linen with the scribe's ink-horn in his belt then came back and made his report, 'I have carried out your orders.'

11. Und der Mann, der das leinene Gewand anhatte und an dessen Gürtel das Schreibzeug hing, (kam und) berichtete: Ich habe getan, was du mir befohlen hast.
