Zacharie, 11

1. Ouvre tes portes, Liban, et que le feu dévore tes cèdres !

1. Open your doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour your cedars!

2. Lamente-toi, cyprès, car le cèdre est tombé, les arbres magnifiques ont été ravagés ! Lamentez-vous, chênes de Basan, car la forêt impénétrable est abattue !

2. Wail, you cypress trees, for the cedars are fallen, the mighty have been despoiled. Wail, you oaks of Bashan, for the impenetrable forest is cut down!

3. On entend la lamentation des bergers, parce que leur gloire est minée ; on entend le rugissement des lionceaux, car ce qui faisait l'orgueil du Jourdain a été ruiné.

3. Hark! the wailing of the shepherds, their glory has been ruined. Hark! the roaring of the young lions, the jungle of the Jordan is laid waste.

4. Ainsi parle Yahweh, mon Dieu :

4. Thus said the LORD, my God: Shepherd the flock to be slaughtered.

5. " Sois pasteur du troupeau de carnage que leurs acheteurs tuent impunément, et dont les vendeurs disent : Béni soit Yah-weh! je m'enrichis, - et que leurs bergers n'épargnent point.

5. For they who buy them slay them with impunity; while those who sell them say, "Blessed be the LORD, I have become rich!" Even their own shepherds do not feel for them.

6. Car je n'épargnerai plus les habitants du pays, - oracle de Yahweh; voici que moi-même je livrerai les hommes aux mains les uns des autres et aux mains de leur roi ; ils dévasteront le pays, et je ne délivrerai pas de leur main. "

6. (Nor shall I spare the inhabitants of the earth any more, says the LORD. Yes, I will deliver each of them into the power of his neighbor, or into the power of his king; they shall crush the earth, and I will not deliver it out of their power.)

7. Alors je me fis pasteur du troupeau de carnage, et aussi des plus misérables du troupeau. Je pris deux houlettes; je nommai l'une Grâce, et je nommai l'autre Lien, et je fis paître le troupeau.

7. So I became the shepherd of the flock to be slaughtered for the sheep merchants. I took two staffs, one of which I called "Favor," and the other, "Bonds," and I fed the flock.

8. Je retranchai les trois pasteurs en un seul mois. Et je perdis patience avec les brebis, et elles aussi étaient lasses de moi.

8. In a single month I did away with the three shepherds. I wearied of them, and they behaved badly toward me.

9. Et je dis: " Je ne vous paîtrai plus ; que celle qui meurt, meure; que celle qui disparaît, disparaisse, et que celles qui restent se dévorent les unes les autres ! "

9. "I will not feed you," I said. "What is to die, let it die; what is to perish, let it perish, and let those that are left devour one another's flesh."

10. Je pris ma houlette Grâce et je la brisai, pour rompre mon alliance que j'avais faite avec tous les peuples.

10. Then I took my staff "Favor" and snapped it asunder, breaking off the covenant which I had made with all peoples;

11. Elle fut brisée en ce jour-là, et ainsi les plus misérables du troupeau, qui faisaient cas de moi, connurent que telle était la parole de Yahweh.

11. that day it was broken off. The sheep merchants who were watching me understood that this was the word of the LORD.

12. Et je leur dis : " Si vous le trouvez bon, donnez-moi mon salaire ; sinon, n'en faites rien. " Et ils pesérent mon salaire, trente sicles d'argent.

12. I said to them, "If it seems good to you, give me my wages; but if not, let it go." And they counted out my wages, thirty pieces of silver.

13. Et Yahweh me dit : " Jette-le au potier, ce prix magni-fique auquel j'ai été estimé par eux ! " Et je pris les trente sicles d'argent et je les jetai dans la maison de Yahweh, au potier.

13. But the LORD said to me, "Throw it in the treasury, the handsome price at which they valued me." So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the treasury in the house of the LORD.

14. Je brisai ensuite ma seconde houlette Lien, pour rompre la fraternité entre Juda et Israël.

14. Then I snapped asunder my other staff, "Bonds," breaking off the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

15. Yahweh me dit : " Prends maintenant l'attirail d'un nouveau pasteur.

15. The LORD said to me: This time take the gear of a foolish shepherd.

16. Car voici que moi-même je vais susciter sur le pays un berger qui n'aura pas souci des brebis qui se perdent, qui ne cherchera pas ce qui est dispersé, qui ne guérira pas celle qui est blessée; II ne nourrira pas celle qui est saine, il insurgera la chair de celle qui est grasse et fendra leur sabot.

16. For I will raise up a shepherd in the land who will take no note of those that perish, nor seek the strays, nor heal the injured, nor feed what survives--he will eat the flesh of the fat ones and tear off their hoofs!

17. Malheur au pasteur de néant qui délaisse le troupeau ! Que le glaive soit sur son bras et sur son oeil droit I Que son bras se dessèche,et que son oeil droit s'éteigne !"

17. Woe to my foolish shepherd who forsakes the flock! May the sword fall upon his arm and upon his right eye; Let his arm wither away entirely, and his right eye be blind forever!
