Ecclesiasticus, 50

1. Simon the high priest, the son of Onias, who in his life propped up the house, and in his days fortified the temple.

1. Il sommo sacerdote Simone, figlio di Onia, durante la sua vita ha riparato la casa, nei suoi giorni ha fortificato il tempio.

2. By him also the height of the temple was founded, the double building and the high walls of the temple.

2. Egli pose le fondamenta per il grande cortile, l'alto sostegno del recinto del tempio.

3. In his days the wells of water flowed out, and they were filled as the sea above measure.

3. Nei suoi giorni fu scavato il serbatoio delle acque, una fossa grande come il mare.

4. He took care of his nation, and delivered it from destruction.

4. Egli pensava al suo popolo perché non cadesse, alle fortificazioni della città in vista dell'assedio.

5. He prevailed to enlarge the city, and obtained glory in his conversation with the people: and enlarged the entrance of the house and the court.

5. Era splendido quando tornava dal santuario, quando usciva dalla casa del velo:

6. He shone in his days as the morning star in the midst of a cloud, and as the moon at the full.

6. era come l'astro mattutino in mezzo alle nubi, come la luna piena nei giorni della festa,

7. And as the sun when it shineth, so did he shine in the temple of God.

7. come il sole che brilla sul tempio dell'Altissimo, come l'arcobaleno che splende tra nubi luminose,

8. And as the rainbow giving light in the bright clouds, and as the flower of roses in the days of the spring, and as the lilies that are on the brink of the water, and as the sweet smelling frankincense in the time of summer.

8. come la rosa fiorita nella stagione dei frutti, come il giglio cresciuto dove zampilla l'acqua, come il germoglio del Libano nei giorni dell'estate;

9. As a bright Are, and frankincense burning in the fire.

9. come fuoco ed incenso nell'incensiere, come un vaso tutto martellato d'oro, adornato con ogni specie di pietre preziose,

10. As a massy vessel of gold, adorned with every precious stone.

10. come fronde d'ulivo che portano frutti e come cipresso che s'innalza tra le nubi.

11. As an olive tree budding forth, and a cypress tree rearing itself on high, when he put on the robe of glory, and was clothed with the perfection of power.

11. Quando indossava i paramenti preziosi egli era rivestito di perfetto splendore; quando saliva presso il santo altare irradiava la gloria in tutto il santuario.

12. When he went up to the holy altar, he honoured the vesture of holiness.

12. Quando riceveva le porzioni dalle mani dei sacerdoti, mentre stava presso il focolare dell'altare, intorno a lui si formava una corona di fratelli, simile a germoglio di cedri del Libano, e lo circondavano come fossero ceppi di palme.

13. And when he took the portions out of the hands of the priests, he himself stood by the altar. And about him was the ring of his brethren: and as the cedar planted in mount Libanus,

13. Allora tutti i figli di Aronne nella loro gloria, tenendo l'offerta del Signore nelle loro mani, stavano dinanzi a tutta l'assemblea d'Israele.

14. And as branches of palm trees, they stood round about him, and all the sons of Aaron in their glory.

14. Per completare la celebrazione sopra l'altare e per rendere più bella l'offerta dell'Altissimo onnipotente,

15. And the oblation of the Lord was in their hands, before all the congregation of Israel: and finishing his service, on the altar, to honour the offering of the most high Ring,

15. egli stendeva la sua mano sulla coppa della libazione, faceva libazioni con il sangue dell'uva versandolo ai piedi dell'altare quale odore fragrante per l'Altissimo, re di tutto.

16. He stretched forth his hand to make a libation, and offered of the blood of the grape.

16. A quel momento cominciavano a gridare i figli di Aronne, suonavano con le loro trombe di metallo battuto facendo sentire una grande voce come memoria dinanzi all'Altissimo.

17. He poured out at the foot of the altar a divine odour to the most high Prince.

17. Immediatamente tutto il popolo insieme cadeva con la faccia a terra per adorare il proprio Signore, Dio altissimo e onnipotente.

18. Then the sons of Aaron shouted, they sounded with beaten trumpets, and made a great noise to be heard for a remembrance before God.

18. Allora il coro intonava il suo canto, una melodia dolce, mista al suono vigoroso,

19. Then all the people together made haste, and fell down to the earth upon their faces, to adore the Lord their God, and to pray to the Almighty God the most High.

19. mentre il popolo pregava il Signore altissimo, implorando la sua misericordia, fino a quando non finiva il culto del Signore e non si completava tutto il rituale.

20. And the singers lifted up their voices. and in the great house the sound of sweet melody was increased.

20. Allora egli, scendendo, levava le sue mani su tutta l'assemblea dei figli d'Israele per dare con le sue labbra la benedizione del Signore, avendo il privilegio di poter pronunziare il suo nome;

21. And the people in prayer besought the Lord the most High, until the worship of the Lord was perfected, and they had finished their office.

21. per la seconda volta il popolo si prostrava in adorazione per ricevere la benedizione dell'Altissimo.

22. Then coming down, he lifted up his hands over all the congregation of the children of Israel, to give glory to God with his lips, and to glory in his name:

22. Benedite, ora, il dio dell'universo, che fa dovunque cose grandi, che ha esaltato i nostri giorni fin dal seno materno e agisce con noi secondo la sua misericordia.

23. And he repeated his prayer, willing to shew the power of God.

23. Ci conceda la gioia del cuore e dia pace a Israele ora e per sempre.

24. And now pray ye to the God of all, who hath done great things in all the earth, who hath increased our days from our mother's womb, and hath done with us according to his mercy.

24. Voglia egli confermare con noi la sua misericordia per darci la sua redenzione nei nostri giorni.

25. May he grant us joyfulness of heart, and that there be peace in our days in Israel for ever:

25. Due nazioni detesta la mia anima, e la terza non è neppure una nazione:

26. That Israel may believe that the mercy of God is with us, to deliver us in his days.

26. gli abitanti della montagna di Seir e della Filistea, e il popolo stolto che abita in Sichem.

27. There are two nations which my soul abhorreth: and the third is no nation, which I hate:

27. Insegnamenti per l'intelligenza e la scienza ha condensato in questo libro Gesù, figlio di Sirach, figlio di Eleazaro, gerosolimitano, che ha effuso saggezza dal suo cuore.

28. They that sit on mount Seir, and the Philistines, and the foolish people that dwell in Sichem.

28. Beato chi si occuperà di queste cose; ponendole nel suo cuore, diventerà saggio.

29. Jesus the son of Sirach, of Jerusalem, hath written in this book the doctrine of wisdom and instruction, who renewed wisdom from his heart.

29. Se le metterà in pratica, sarà forte in tutto, perché suo sentiero è il timore del Signore.

30. Blessed is he that is conversant in these good things: and he that layeth them up in his heart, shall be wise always.

31. For if he do them, he shall be strong to do all things: because the light of God guideth his steps.
