Ecclesiasticus, 47

1. the Lord the Almighty, and he gave strength in his right hand, to take away the mighty warrior, and to set up the horn of his nation.

1. Dopo di lui sorse Natan a profetizzare nei giorni di Davide.

2. And as the fat taken away from the flesh, so was David chosen from among the children of Israel.

2. Come il grasso è separato dal sacrificio, così fu scelto Davide tra i figli d'Israele.

3. He played with lions as with lambs: and with bears he did in like manner as with the lambs of the flock, in his youth.

3. Giocò con i leoni come fossero capretti, e con gli orsi quasi fossero agnelli.

4. Did not he kill the giant, and take away reproach from his people?

4. Non uccise un gigante, pur essendo ancor giovane, e non tolse l'ignominia del popolo, quando alzò la mano con la pietra nella fionda per abbattere la tracotanza di Golia?

5. In lifting up his hand, with the stone in the sling he beat down the boasting of Goliath:

5. Infatti egli invocò il Signore altissimo, che gli diede tanta forza nella destra per sconfiggere chi era forte nella guerra e dare la vittoria al suo popolo.

6. For he called upoI

6. Perciò hanno celebrato la sua vittoria sui diecimila, hanno a lui inneggiato con la benedizione del Signore e gli hanno offerto un diadema di gloria.

7. So in ten thousand did he glorify him, and praised him in the blessings of the Lord, in offering to him a crown of glory:

7. Infatti sgominò i nemici all'intorno, annientò gli avversari Filistei, ne distrusse la potenza fino ad oggi.

8. For he destroyed the enemies on every side, and extirpated the Philistines the adversaries unto this day: he broke their horn for ever.

8. Per ogni sua impresa glorificava il Santo altissimo con parole di lode. Con tutto il cuore cantava inni, tanto egli amava il suo Creatore.

9. In all his works he gave thanks to the holy one, and to the most High, with words of glory.

9. Stabilì salmisti davanti all'altare per addolcire i canti col loro suono.

10. With his whole heart he praised the Lord, and loved God that made him: and he gave him power against his enemies:

10. Diede splendore alle feste e conferì somma bellezza alle ricorrenze, perché essi cantavano il suo santo Nome e il suono allietava fin dal mattino il santuario.

11. And he set singers before the altar, and by their voices he made sweet melody.

11. Il Signore perdonò i suoi peccati e innalzò per sempre la sua potenza; gli diede il patto di una dinastia regale e un trono di gloria in Israele.

12. And to the festivals he added beauty, and set in order the solemn times even to the end of his life, that they should praise the holy name of the Lord, and magnify the holiness of God in the morning.

12. Dopo di lui sorse un figlio saggio, che grazie a lui dimorò entro ampi confini:

13. The Lord took away his sine, and exalted his horn for ever: and he gave him a covenant of the kingdom, and a throne of glory in Israel.

13. Salomone, che regnò in tempi di pace; il Signore gli diede pace all'intorno, perché dedicasse una casa al suo nome, gli preparasse un santuario per sempre.

14. After him arose up a wise son, and for his sake he cast down all the power of the enemies.

14. Come sei stato saggio nella tua giovinezza! Eri pieno d'intelligenza come un fiume!

15. Solomon reigned in days of peace, and God brought all his enemies under him, that he might build a house in his name, and prepare a sanctuary for ever: O how wise wast thou in thy youth!

15. La tua fama ricoprì la terra, che riempisti con parabole ed enigmi.

16. And thou wast filled as a river with wisdom, and thy soul covered the earth.

16. La tua fama è giunta nelle isole lontane, sei stato amato per la pace del tuo regno.

17. And thou didst multiply riddles in parables: thy name went abroad to the islands far off, and thou wast beloved in thy peace.

17. I tuoi canti, proverbi e parabole, le tue risposte erano ammirati da tutto il mondo.

18. The countries wondered at thee for thy canticles, and proverbs, and parables, and interpretations,

18. Nel nome del Signore Dio, chiamato il Dio d'Israele, hai raccolto l'oro come stagno e ammassato l'argento come piombo.

19. And at the name of the Lord God, whose surname is, God of Israel.

19. Ma hai fatto giacere al tuo fianco le donne, che hanno soggiogato il tuo corpo;

20. Thou didst gather gold as copper, and didst multiply silver as lead,

20. hai macchiato così la tua gloria, hai profanato la tua discendenza, hai attirato l'ira sui tuoi figli, afflitti ormai dalla tua stoltezza.

21. And thou didst bow thyself to women: and by thy body thou wast brought under subjection.

21. Perciò fu diviso il tuo dominio e cominciò da Efraim un empio regno.

22. Thou hast stained thy glory, and defiled thy seed so as to bring wrath upon thy children, and to have thy folly kindled,

22. Ma il Signore non ha abbandonato la sua misericordia, non ha annullato la sua parola, né ha cancellato la progenie del suo eletto: non distrusse la stirpe di chi l'aveva amato, diede a Giacobbe un resto e, da esso, a Davide una radice.

23. That thou shouldst make the kingdom to be divided, and out of Ephraim a rebellious kingdom to rule.

23. Salomone si riposò con i suoi padri e lasciò dopo di lui uno dei suoi figli, che fu stolto con il popolo e di poca intelligenza, Roboamo, che scontentò il popolo con la sua decisione.

24. But God will not leave off his mercy, and he will not destroy, nor abolish his own works, neither will he out up by the roots the offspring of his elect: and he will not utterly take away the seed of him that loveth the Lord.

24. Allora Geroboamo, figlio di Nabat, fece sviare Israele e condusse Efraim sulla via del peccato. I loro peccati si sono tanto accresciuti da cacciarli fuori dalla loro terra;

25. Wherefore he gave a remnant to Jacob, and to David of the same stock.

25. hanno cercato ogni specie di malvagità finché venne su di loro la vendetta.

26. And Solomon had an end with his fathers.

27. And he left behind him of his seed, the folly of the nation,

27.

28. Even Roboam that had little wisdom, who turned away the people through his counsel:

29. And Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who caused Israel to sin, and shewed Ephraim the way of sin, and their sins were multiplied exceedingly.

29.

30. They removed them far away from their land.

30.

31. And they sought out all iniquities, till vengeance came upon them, and put an end to all their sine.
