2 Corinthians, 10

1. I urge you by the gentleness and forbearance of Christ -- this is Paul now speaking personally-I, the one who is so humble when he is facing you but full of boldness at a distance.

1. Ich, Paulus, der ja im persönlichen Umgang mit euch so unterwürfig, aus der Ferne aber so unerschrocken sein soll, ich ermahne euch angesichts der Freundlichkeit und Güte Christi

2. Yes, my appeal to you is that I should not have to be bold when I am actually with you, or show the same self-assurance as I reckon to use when I am challenging those who reckon that we are guided by human motives.

2. und bitte euch: Zwingt mich nicht, bei meinem Kommen so unerschrocken und fest aufzutreten, wie ich es gegen gewisse Leute zu tun gedenke, die meinen, wir verhalten uns wie Menschen dieser Welt.

3. For although we are human, it is not by human methods that we do battle.

3. Wir leben zwar in dieser Welt, kämpfen aber nicht mit den Waffen dieser Welt.

4. The weapons with which we do battle are not those of human nature, but they have the power, in God's cause, to demolish fortresses. It is ideas that we demolish,

4. Die Waffen, die wir bei unserem Feldzug einsetzen, sind nicht irdisch, aber sie haben durch Gott die Macht, Festungen zu schleifen; mit ihnen reißen wir

5. every presumptuous notion that is set up against the knowledge of God, and we bring every thought into captivity and obedience to Christ;

5. alle hohen Gedankengebäude nieder, die sich gegen die Erkenntnis Gottes auftürmen. Wir nehmen alles Denken gefangen, sodass es Christus gehorcht;

6. once you have given your complete obedience, we are prepared to punish any disobedience.

6. wir sind entschlossen, alle Ungehorsamen zu strafen, sobald ihr wirklich gehorsam geworden seid.

7. Look at the evidence of your eyes. Anybody who is convinced that he belongs to Christ should go on to reflect that we belong to Christ no less than he does.

7. Schaut auf das, was vor Augen liegt. Wenn jemand überzeugt ist, Christus zu gehören, dann soll er doch auch bedenken, dass nicht nur er, sondern auch wir Christus gehören.

8. Maybe I have taken rather too much pride in our authority, but the Lord gave us that for building you up, not for knocking you down, and I am not going to be shamed

8. Und wenn ich etwas mehr auf unsere Vollmacht poche, werde ich mich nicht zu scheuen brauchen. Der Herr hat sie mir allerdings verliehen, damit ich bei euch aufbaue, nicht damit ich niederreiße;

9. into letting you think that I can put fear into you only by letter.

9. ich möchte nicht den Anschein erwecken, als wollte ich euch durch meine Briefe einschüchtern.

10. Someone said, 'His letters are weighty enough, and full of strength, but when you see him in person, he makes no impression and his powers of speaking are negligible.'

10. Ja, die Briefe, wird gesagt, die sind wuchtig und voll Kraft, aber sein persönliches Auftreten ist matt und seine Worte sind armselig.

11. I should like that sort of person to take note that our deeds when we are present will show the same qualities as our letters when we were at a distance.

11. Wer so redet, der soll sich merken: Wie wir durch das geschriebene Wort aus der Ferne wirken, so können wir auch in eurer Gegenwart tatkräftig auftreten.

12. We are not venturing to rank ourselves, or even to compare ourselves with certain people who provide their own commendations. By measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves to themselves, they only show their folly.

12. Wir sind allerdings nicht so vermessen, uns gleichzustellen oder zu vergleichen mit gewissen Leuten, die sich selbst anpreisen. In ihrem Unverstand messen sie sich an sich selbst und vergleichen sich mit sich selbst.

13. By contrast we do not intend to boast beyond measure, but will measure ourselves by the standard which God laid down for us, namely that of having come all the way to you.

13. Wir dagegen wollen uns nicht maßlos rühmen, sondern jenen Maßstab anlegen, den uns Gott zugeteilt hat, dass wir nämlich bis zu euch gelangt sind.

14. We are not overreaching ourselves as we would be if we had not come all the way to you; in fact we were the first to come as far as you with the good news of Christ.

14. Wir überschreiten also nicht unser Maß, wie wir es tun würden, wenn wir nicht bis zu euch gelangt wären; denn wir sind wirklich als Erste mit dem Evangelium Christi bis zu euch gekommen.

15. So we are not boasting beyond measure, about other men's work; in fact, we hope, as your faith increases, to grow greater and greater by this standard of ours,

15. Wir rühmen uns also nicht maßlos und mit fremden Leistungen; aber wir haben die Hoffnung, wenn euer Glaube stärker wird, vor euren Augen über das uns (bisher) gesetzte Maß weit hinauszuwachsen

16. by preaching the gospel to regions beyond you, rather than boasting about work already done in someone else's province.

16. und die Heilsbotschaft über eure Grenzen hinauszutragen. Nach einem fremden Maßstab und auf einem Feld, das schon bestellt ist, wollen wir keinen Ruhm ernten.

17. Let anyone who wants to boast, boast of the Lord.

17. Wer sich also rühmen will, der rühme sich des Herrn.

18. For it is not through self-commendation that recognition is won, but through commendation.

18. Denn nicht, wer sich selbst empfiehlt, ist anerkannt, sondern der, den der Herr empfiehlt.
